This mid-week fixture will be an incredibly important test for both West Ham United and Cardiff City. The two sides sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table and will be looking to gain maximum points from this fixture.
Despite a shaky start to the season, West Ham have started to turn their form around with a total of eight points in their last five games, including a 4-2 victory against Burnley and overturning Newcastle 3-0.
The Irons, who will be hosting Cardiff City on Tuesday, will be looking to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat to table-toppers Manchester City. Furthermore, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have recorded just a single victory within their last six games and will be looking for a change of fortune when they take on Cardiff.
The Welsh side are yet to record a win away from home this season and based upon their recent form on the road, this statistic isn’t set to change anytime soon. Furthermore, it’s unlikely that the Blue Birds will find the back of the net in this fixture either as this season they’ve scored just two goals away from home.
West Ham United will be without Manuel Lanzini and Andriy Yarmolenko who are ruled out due to injury. In addition to this, the likes of Winston Reid and Carlos Sanchez are likely to be unavailable.
On the other hand, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing will be unavailable for Cardiff in their clash with West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Potential West Ham Starting XI: Fabianksi, Zabaleta, Balbuena, Diop, Cresswell, Snodgrass, Noble, Rice, Anderson, Hernandez, Arnautovic
Potential Cardiff Starting XI: Etheridge, Manga, Morrison, Bamba, Gunnarsson, Camarasa, Ralls, Arter, Hoilett, Paterson, Murphy
Head To Head
- The last time West Ham United and Cardiff faced off against each other in the Premier League was in 2014, where the Irons defeated the Blue Birds 2-0.
Key Stats & Facts
- Cardiff have recorded just two victories against West Ham United in the last 53 years.
- Cardiff haven’t defeated West Ham since 2011.
- West Ham – 8/13
- Draw – 3/1
- Cardiff – 9/2
For me, West Ham will be just edging this one. Cardiff looked impressive during their recent victory over Wolves but it’s their away from that is proving to be the concern. In addition to this, I don’t believe that it’ll exactly be a goal frenzy at the London Stadium either.
