Grand Slam of Darts Round Two Acca Tips
Bet 1: Gerwyn Price to Cover -5.5 Handicap
Now that we’re moved onto the best of 19 legs, we’ve got the perfect setup to take advantage of Gerwyn Price’s quirks as a player. Cool nickname aside, “The Iceman” isn’t exactly the picture of calm. He’s more hot or cold. Just look at the stats, he tends to either blow opponents away or crash out dramatically. But more often the former than the latter.
In his last eight matches, he’s won six of them. Four were best-of-11 leg contests, and he took every one of those by at least five legs. Both of his best-of-nine victories were by four legs or more. The pattern’s clear: when Price wins, he wins big.
So, with him up against the talented but outgunned Martin Schindler, we reckon the gap between the 1/3 odds on Price to win outright and the 6/1 odds on him to cover the -5.5 handicap is massively off the mark. The man rarely does narrow victories, so that price difference is well worth the added value.
Bet 2: Luke Littler vs Wessel Nijman – Over 16.5 Legs
Littler may be on frightening form this tournament, but truth be told, he’s rarely one to win without dropping a few legs. You’d think that for a player who’s reinvigorated the sport with achievements that are frankly mind-boggling at such a young age, he’d be racking up more zeros than the receipt from a big shop at Waitrose, but that’s just not the case.
He went 5–3 in a best-of-nine leg outing against Scutt just days ago and needed a 6–5 shootout in best-of-11 matches against Campbell and van den Herik last month at the Players Championship. Littler wins, sure, but he’s got to graft for it. Put it this way, the last five times he’s gone best of 19, only one finished under 17 legs. Nijman isn’t exactly a downgrade in opposition, so the maths doesn’t add up for a quick finish. You know what does, though? Backing Over 16.5 legs at 5/4.
Bet 3: Josh Rock to Throw Most 180s
Nothing fancy about this one, just solid, sensible betting. Josh Rock has been throwing some cracking darts lately, and his steady stream of 180s has been key to that success. Sure, the record nine maximums he hit at the World Cup of Darts springs to mind, but what really matters is how consistently he’s been outscoring his opponents in that department. He’s topped the 180s charts in each of his last five matches, even in defeat.
Now, Connor Scutt is no mug. He’s made it deep in tournaments before, including a quarter-final run at the 2024 Players Championship Finals. But let’s be honest, there’s a massive gulf between a (near) top-50 player and someone edging into the top 10. Scutt has managed more 180s than his opponent in three of his last five, but not always against the same calibre of player. Simply put, it’s hard to see him keeping pace here. This one’s a fantastic low risk anchor for our acca, steady, reliable, and rock solid. Josh Rock solid.
