Horse racing has captivated millions for hundreds of years, so it should come as no surprise that horse racing betting is equally as popular, and because of that there are lots of bookies to choose from. Below I list only the best UK horse racing betting sites, including new bookies shaking things up and why I think they deserve the spotlight.

The competition out there is truly fierce! With that in mind, below are the 10 distinctive features that make the best horse racing betting sites stand out:

horse racing infographic

Before delving into my list, it’s important to acknowledge the multitude of great horse racing betting sites out there, so omission from my selection doesn’t diminish the quality these bookies offer.

Without further ado, here are the pinnacle horse racing betting sites.

1. Parimatch

parimatch horse racing page screenshot
Parimatch Horse Racing Markets (Source: Parimatch)

Ideal for newcomers but with enough depth to satisfy even the pickiest of horse racing betting veterans, Parimatch might be the ultimate horse racing betting online experience. Plus, special features like Parimatch’s trending markets further extend the appeal of their excellence.

They back these up with a wide variety of racing coverage from across the world, along with highly competitive odds and a versatile selection of markets for every race.

Furthermore, their promotions, including price boosts, welcome offers, and free bets — all related to horse racing — are among the most generous and versatile I’ve seen for the sport. Just as important is their silky-smooth site design, which is as impressive on desktop as it is on mobile, and which simply makes horse racing betting an all-round pleasant experience.

Pros:
  • Great promos such as price boosts, free bets, and welcome offers
  • Best odds guaranteed promo
  • Excellent site design
  • Dozens of horse racing betting markets available
Cons:
  • Could do with more payment options
  • Few technical faults on desktop

2. BetVictor

betvictor horse racing page screenshot
BetVictor Horse Racing Markets (Source: BetVictor)

BetVictor arguably deserve to be placed among the best horse racing bookmakers in almost every regard. The site offers an amazing selection of bet boosts, possibly the finest mobile experience of any on this list, daily racing specials, and five-star livestreaming — in fact, it is one of the best livestreaming betting sites anywhere.

BetVictor is a true jack of all trades when it comes to sheer betting variety — just check out the scale of their horse racing betting selection for proof. Whether it’s the finest pre-match odds or a creative array of ever-changing live odds, few can compete.

The platform's excellent design also means it’s easy to navigate.

Pros:
  • Bet boosts
  • Livestreaming of most races
  • Great bonus offer
  • Daily racing specials
Cons:
  • Aesthetics won’t suit everyone
  • Some bet builders are more modern

3. The Pools

the pools horse racing page screenshot
The Pools Horse Racing Markets (Source: The Pools)

As the name suggests, this bookie focuses on an oft-forgotten form of wagering, yet one that has stood the test of time: pool betting. The Pools are currently one of the most versatile new horse racing betting sites in the UK and beyond, covering a variety of horse racing from local to international, and offering a range of exciting sportsbook promotions

If you’ve never tried pool betting before, then this user-friendly platform might be your ideal place to start.

Pros:
  • Special bets for most popular races
  • Local and international races
  • £20 in free bets welcome offer
  • Daily free bets for horse betting
Cons:
  • Pool betting simply won’t suit everybody
  • Only debit card payment option available

4. Sportingbet

sportingbet horse racing page screenshot
Sportingbet Horse Racing Markets (Source: Sportingbet)

Not only do sports take centre stage at Sportingbet, but horse racing gets top billing as well. This is another horse racing bookmaker that offers excellent odds, backed by a ‘Best Odds Guaranteed' promotion across a wide variety of markets.

And that’s just the start of the many great bonus offers provided — this platform even features individually customised promotions based on how you like to play! They’re especially great for acca betting, with acca insurance and a weekly £5 free bet when you bet £10 on accumulators that week.

Another area where they really impress is the level of insight they provide on things like form and track details, as well as the wide selection of specials on offer and their cash-out opportunities.

Pros:
  • Great mobile site
  • Races from all over the world
  • Plenty of markets, including Tote betting
  • Fantastic selection of bonuses
Cons:
  • Customer service limited
  • App freezes from time to time

5. Spreadex

spreadex horse racing page screenshot
Spreadex Horse Racing Markets (Source: Spreadex)

Undoubtedly, Spreadex has earned their place as one of the best horse racing betting sites in the UK, given that they are among the premier spread betting sites in the world. They have a different, perhaps more advanced, spread betting option compared to The Pools, better suited to more experienced bettors.

While it’s not quite as user-friendly as some, you get so much more for what you put in. They are arguably the most comprehensive version of this form of horse racing betting available.

And, despite there being a learning curve to an extent, a lot of effort is made in terms of balancing this depth with practicalities such as round-the-clock live chat and a broad selection of easy-to-use payment methods.

Plus, the pre-match offering is far from an afterthought. You can expect the market variety, statistical detail, and live coverage to be that of the absolute best horse racing bookmakers the UK has to offer.

Pros:
  • 24/7 customer service
  • Excellent traditional and spread betting options
  • Great statistical depth
  • Great promos relevant to horse racing
Cons:
  • No loyalty programme
  • Less user-friendly than competitors

6. Bet UK

bet uk horse racing page screenshot
Bet UK Horse Racing Markets (Source: Bet UK)

Don’t let the Bet UK name fool you, they are among the most global-minded on any list of best horse racing betting sites. They manage to balance a spectacular roster of competitive odds for UK and Irish horse racing markets backed by a ‘Best Odds Guaranteed’ promotion, with a surprisingly broad scope of international races from the likes of South Africa, Australia, the US and more.

Moreover, they feature a broad selection of more general sports promotions, which are both generous and available for use on horse racing. Take for instance, their ‘£30 in free bets’ when you bet on your £10 welcome offer, and up to 50% profit boosts on acca bets; certainly exciting.

BetUK is easy to navigate, with the kind of quality design you’d expect from industry icons. Arguably the finest of the new online horse racing betting sites.

Pros:
  • Very competitive promotional terms
  • Odds on markets all over the world
  • UK and Irish races covered by BOG
  • Warm and welcoming aesthetics
Cons:
  • Occasional technical issues with live chat
  • Not a huge number of interesting features

7. KWIFF

kwiff horse racing page screenshot
KWIFF Horse Racing Markets (Source: KWIFF)

KWIFF might not (yet) be the first name most people think of when they consider the world’s top horse racing betting sites, but they are worthy of being in the conversation.

First off, the experience is as good as any on my list. This is in no small feat, thanks to their beautifully designed website and app. While I don’t want to tell you what looks good, I think that many users will be seduced by its distinctive purple charms.

On a technical and structural level, it’s smartly put together. And this is important because there’s a large selection of horse racing betting odds, both pre-match and live on the level of many favourites more closely associated with the sport, all of which are bolstered by supercharged odds and excellent promotions.

Pros:
  • Generous bet boosts
  • Excellent mobile experience
  • Unique aesthetics
  • Great in-play options
Cons:
  • Lean payment method selection
  • Margins can be higher than some competitors

8. Coral

coral horse racing page screenshot
Coral Horse Racing Markets (Source: Coral)

Alongside William Hill, Coral is probably the operator that springs to mind most often when asked about the best horse racing bookmakers, distinguished by the spectacular extras which take its sound fundamentals to the next level.

For instance, UK and Irish races backed by ‘Best Odds Guaranteed' alongside intensely competitive odds internationally means that whatever race you’re interested in, rest assured you’ve got a good deal.

On top of that, the live experience is spectacular and backed by great cash-out and bet builder features, alongside a huge selection of ongoing promotions and competitions.

Pros:
  • Great reputation
  • Excellent, innovative features
  • Truly global market selection
  • Competitions add a social element
Cons:
  • Live chat could be better
  • Conservative design not for everyone

9. 10bet

10bet horse racing page screenshot
10bet Horse Racing Markets (Source: 10bet)

Innovation does not lack on the best horse racing bookmakers featured on my list. However, many people reading this won’t be as interested in unique ways to bet as they would be in a site that can provide them with strong fundamentals throughout. 10bet is precisely that bookmaker.

They are cleverly designed for maximum efficiency and have odds consistently ranking amongst the best. You can find 10bet available on almost all modern mobile devices. The payouts are quick and there’s no additional fees.

Going even further are the amazing promotions, many of which are relevant to horse racing. Acca bonuses and a big welcome offer make a great experience even better.

Pros:
  • Plenty of potentially profitable promotions
  • Top tier odds as standard
  • VIP rewards
  • Easy to navigate
Cons:
  • Could have better livestreaming
  • Few innovations

10. bet365

bet365 horse racing page screenshot
bet365 Horse Racing Markets (Source: bet365 – odds correct as at 06/12/2023, 08:54)

So revered is this platform as one of the best horse racing betting sites UK has to offer that it may be surprising that they have such stiff competition. Rest assured, that has nothing to do with a lack of excellence on the part of bet365, but is rather an indictment of the incredibly high standards of horse racing betting sites.

bet365 provide a global selection of races with terrific market variety, including a world-class bet builder and almost unbeatable odds. On top of all this, you'll also find that this betting juggernaut offers livestreaming on both the desktop site and the app as well.

Their technical prowess is ideal for a sport like horse racing, and they are no less generous when it comes to providing bonus incentives.

Pros:
  • World-class bet builder
  • Covers British and international races
  • Great welcome offer
  • Plenty of horse racing promos
Cons:
  • Customer service could be better
  • Extremely competitive market means they’ve lost some edge

11. BoyleSports

boylesports horse racing page screenshot
BoyleSports Horse Racing Markets (Source: BoyleSports)

In terms of providing the best chance of making the smartest bets possible, there’s arguably no online bookmakers with horse racing experience that can top BoyleSports. For starters, all the important baselines are there — they are secure, reputable, have competitive odds and great customer service.

Beyond that, they provide daily betting news alongside lots of incentives and information for key markets. With daily and weekly promotions (many of which enhance specific horse racing market opportunities), none provides more consistent enhancements to those odds.

Just as important, the live experience is fantastically designed, with a huge amount of detail behind the in-play button, including livestreaming.

Pros:
  • Smooth livestreaming
  • Daily news often race-relevant
  • Daily and weekly promotions are excellent
  • Live betting a joy
Cons:
  • Welcome bonus could be more accessible
  • Some offers require in-store participation

12. Betfred

betfred horse racing page screenshot
Betfred Horse Racing Markets (Source: Betfred)

I would say that Betfred really views and treats horse racing as one of their most important markets. And it’s a focus that pays off, with first-rate radio and livestreaming coverage, consistently excellent odds, daily price boosts, regular extra place options, specials, free bet 2nds, tote betting, #PickYourPunt, and great virtual racing options. They're also a notably good bookie for placepot betting.

Additionally, it is as appropriate for total newcomers as it is for seasoned bettors thanks to its excellent user-friendly design.

Pros:
  • One of the best sites for placepot betting
  • Daily price boosts, regular extra place options, free bet 2nds and more
  • Strong focus on horse racing betting
  • Great welcome offer
Cons:
  • Fewer international markets than some
  • Lacks VIP programme

13. Betway

betway sports betting page screenshot
Betway Horse Racing Markets (Source: Betway)

It is not just the variety of local and international horse racing coverage from Betway that impresses, but the quality of that coverage as well.

First off, the general betting experience here is an absolute joy, with the bookie making it on my list of the best mobile apps too. Finding the market you want and placing a bet is a breeze. That makes things simple enough for even the greenest of newcomers, while the statistical detail, both before and during live coverage, pushes it to the front in terms of horse racing betting sites suitable for experts.

That level of detail is even available as you are enjoying their seamless livestreaming, making this an absolute winner no matter how your race turns out.

Pros:
  • Great mobile app
  • Covers British and international races
  • Great welcome offer
  • Daily racing specials
Cons:
  • Customer service could be better
  • Homepage may initially feel overwhelming

14. LeoVegas

leovegas horse racing page screenshot
LeoVegas Horse Racing Markets (Source: LeoVegas)

LeoVegas is an operator best known and most focused on their excellent casino offering, which in my opinion is among the best casino betting sites in the UK. That makes them among the most unlikely horse racing betting sites to appear on my list.

However, LeoVegas have not just dipped their toes into the world of sports betting but have for some time now been taking a long swim, resulting in their horse racing offering being up there with the finest horse racing betting websites.

They do focus mainly on the UK and Ireland, but with a great selection of markets backed with ‘Best Odds Guaranteed' on a very user-friendly platform, I think you’ll be amazed by how much they overachieve.

Pros:
  • BOG assured
  • Great interface
  • Beyond all expectations
Cons:
  • International scope limited
  • Smaller races may not be covered

15. talkSPORT BET

talksport bet horse racing page screenshot
talkSPORT BET Horse Racing Markets (Source talkSPORT BET)

Among the new horse racing betting sites UK that I can recommend, talkSPORT BET are admittedly rough around the edges in some ways that many competitors are not. For instance, they do not provide livestreaming and their promotional offering is not quite up to the standards of some of the best on my list.

However, this doesn’t mean they are worthy of being dismissed.

One of the things that talkSPORT BET has brought with them to online bookmakers horse racing is the detailed analysis for which their radio show is known for. This means that if you want to pore over statistical details, this is an excellent choice. Furthermore, the number of markets and the quality of the odds still manages to put it among the best horse racing online betting sites.

Pros:
  • Great for stats
  • Lots of quality odds
  • BetVictor-inspired design
  • Ties in with radio broadcast
Cons:
  • Could do with more promotions
  • No livestreaming

16. bwin

bwin horse racing page screenshot
bwin Horse Racing Markets (Source: bwin)

The moment I stepped through the virtual doors of bwin, I was greeted with a broad selection of horse racing markets. In addition, ‘Best Odds Guaranteed', alongside their fantastic £20 Back Up welcome offer, are utilised liberally here, and alongside today’s races, there’s also a fantastic selection of futures and specials markets to enjoy.

The attention to detail really put bwin over the edge to being among my absolute favourite new online horse racing betting sites.

You can enjoy livestreaming on a huge variety of races and spend as much time as you like pouring over their detailed statistics and commentary. bwin seems to understand that horse racing is as deep as the individual wants it to be, and they provide everything you could possibly want to bet your way.

Pros:
  • Plenty of horse racing markets
  • Fun special bets
  • £20 welcome offer + best odds guaranteed
  • Access to stats and commentary
Cons:
  • Dark site might look uninviting
  • Some reports of payment slowdown

17. Matchbook

matchbook horse racing page screenshot
Matchbook Horse Racing Markets (Source: Matchbook)

Matchbook might be on my list of the best for newcomers thanks to a website that is a sheer delight to navigate. You’ll be able to search through an enormous number of horse racing betting options with a simplicity and ease that I don’t think any alternative can match.

The key focus of Matchbook is horse racing and football, offering a fully focused selection which is reflected in the variety and odds quality. Oh, and they’re every bit as wonderful on their mobile app.

Promotions further sweeten the deal, including a £20 welcome offer as a free bet if your first bet loses for a second chance at victory. But there’s arguably none more important than their offering of 0% commission both for the first 110 days and as part of the Matchbook Zero feature.

Pros:
  • Most accessible betting exchange
  • Fantastic “matchbook insights” provide tips
  • Zero commission options
  • Horse racing a major focus
Cons:
  • Not as in-depth as some alternatives
  • Few rewards for long term users

18. LuckLand

luckland horse racing page screenshot
LuckLand Horse Racing Markets (Source: LuckLand)

The second surprise on my list is LuckLand casino, which again proves that you don’t necessarily need to be known for a particular style of gambling.

Their dedication to sports betting excellence is suggested by their appealingly generous “Bet £15 Get £10welcome offer and is then confirmed by their rather spectacular horse racing betting markets. From pre-match, live, and international options, they really do have it all even though you have to search for them.

I think this kind of option is important because many people are casual bettors on the sport and may not wish to sign up to new horse racing betting sites in UK, and instead will want to use a casino for horse racing betting online. LuckLand provides that opportunity with high standards.

Pros:
  • UK, Irish and global horse betting selection
  • Provides easy access for casino fans
  • Welcome offer available for use on race markets
  • Useful dedicated help section
Cons:
  • Casino remains primary focus
  • Odds not always most competitive

19. Smarkets

smarkets horse racing page screenshot
Smarkets Horse Racing Markets (Source: Smarkets)

0% commission puts this up there with the very best betting exchanges in the industry. I think of Smarkets and Matchbook as two parts of the same coin — both great horse racing betting sites with a unique selling point but quite distinctive flavours.

Both provide a great collection of markets and opportunities for generous returns not found on a traditional sportsbook, but while Matchbook is a rather light experience, Smarkets is a touch deeper in terms of its depth of features and options.

Pros:
  • Fantastically detailed markets
  • Industry low commission
  • Sleek website design
  • Unique market opportunities
Cons:
  • Few bonus offers
  • A little intimidating for less experienced bettors

20. SBK

sbk horse racing page screenshot
SBK Horse Racing Markets (Source: SBK)

If you are looking for a betting exchange with a fantastic mobile betting app on both iOS and Android to enjoy horse races throughout the UK, Ireland and beyond, then the appeal of SBK — a mobile-app-only operator — is obvious.

They have their limitations, such as a lack of livestreaming, but for incredible odds and a low commission on the go with a smooth interface, there’s few that can match SBK. Plus, horse racing betting online may be the ultimate use of their services. SBK are famous for their tip sharing, where you can share your ideas on who may win and why.

Pros:
  • Arguably the best app experience on this list
  • Has a fantastic horse racing tips feature
  • Low commissions
  • Simple, rewarding promotions
Cons:
  • No livestreams
  • Mobile only

For all the latest horse racing news and expert tips, check out the Racing Post mobile app.

The vast amount of horse racing betting markets makes odds more competitive, provides us with a broad betting buffet of delicious promotions, and keeps standards incredibly high among any horse betting operator that could be even considered as decent. In fact, more and more new horse betting sites are cropping up, looking to get involved in the horse racing betting scene.

Of course, with such stiff competition, not all of these are worthy of your consideration. Therefore, I’ve selected the top five most exciting and promising horse racing betting sites that can offer you something new, and a couple of reasons why I think they are a nose ahead of the pack.

There also exists a universe of options for those who like to bet on the go — a whole kaleidoscope of apps and mobile sites available at the very best horse racing betting sites. Here are our top three.

1. bet365 Horse Racing Betting App

This is about as close to flawless as it gets for bet365, which boasts one of the best betting apps anywhere. And when you match that with a reach like no other, you end up with well over six figures of sport events streamed straight to mobile every year, with useful live betting features like auto and partial cash-out. It’s an absolute joy to behold from start to finish.

2. BetVictor Horse Racing Betting App

I did say that a solid argument can be made for BetVictor providing one of the best horse racing betting mobile experiences in the world, and I meant it. Absolutely gorgeous design and lightning-quick responses make finding your way through its many betting markets an absolute breeze. It might even be better than the desktop alternative, which is an awesome betting experience in itself.

3. Unibet Horse Racing Betting App

Much like Betfair, Unibet have found that they simply have too many horse racing betting options to fit on a single app. That’s why this internationally renowned operator has a dedicated app for poker, casino, and of course, sports. The latter is what I am interested in for this particular article, and it is an absolute home run, featuring horse races from all around the world, a great live experience, and a wide variety of markets, all with the quality odds Unibet are known for.

Most bookmakers offer UK horse racing betting, and in a wide variety of markets — some of which I will get to in a moment. That said, there are a couple of options that were fundamentally different enough for us to view them as worthy of their own consideration.

Tote betting can be best understood by many as pool betting. This is where you place all your money in a pool, after which the whole amount is then shared among the winners.

Obviously, the key difference here is that the prize money is based on a split of all the money that has been put in, or via a pre-determined sharing of the jackpot. Either way, its method of distribution provides a huge distinction between it and traditional betting options. It could be far better, or worse, entirely depending on the outcome.

There are some other things to consider too, such as the size and variety of the pools available and the generosity of pre-determined jackpots, but I’d say that just proves how great bookmakers tend to be great across the board.

Betting exchanges are where players bet against each other instead of betting against fixed odds. In terms of strategy, I wouldn’t say it impacts how you should approach horse racing, for the most part.

The key difference is the odds, which are of course, determined by the bets laid by the users of the site. On many occasions, this can mean better odds than traditional options, but naturally, that does depend on the market. In the case of betting exchanges, operators make money by taking a commission fee on every bet placed, as opposed to an overround.

When it comes to horse betting sites and their bonuses, the only real limits are set by both the generosity and creativity of the bookmaker. Often, my favourite promotions are the ones I haven’t seen before, and I always appreciate a touch of originality.

That said, there are genres of promotions that are commonly utilised for horse racing betting. Here, I am going to be breaking down my top four examples.

Best Odds Guaranteed

This is something so common on the best horse racing bookmakers that it is now considered somewhat expected. However, that does not mean you should underestimate the importance of the Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) promotion.

Essentially, it means that you will get the best odds no matter when you place your bet. Because odds often fluctuate a great deal before a race begins, it would otherwise be easier to get a lesser deal simply through placing your bet at the wrong time.

Important terms to consider include factors like the markets and time frames the promotion is applied to, and maximum payouts.

Free Bets

Very often, welcome bonuses on horse racing betting sites see your deposit matched with free bets. So, for instance, if you bet £100, you would get £100 in the form of a free bet.

The free bet offer must first be staked at your horse betting site, and cannot simply be withdrawn, which is what makes it a free bet rather than a cash bonus. It will also come with its own terms and conditions, where you will usually find the wagering requirements. These state that you must bet the amount of your stake a certain amount of times before you can claim any winnings made with the free bet.

Other terms and conditions should be easy to find on the site, and are vital to determining whether this kind of promotion is worth your while.

Enhanced Odds/Profit Boosts

Although these options are different, they have the same end result, which is that you end up with a higher amount of winnings than you would initially expect.

Enhanced odds may be for a market selected by the bookmaker or by you, but the result is that your odds are changed to be more generous, meaning you get a higher payout if you win. Profit Boosts, on the other hand, add a percentage onto your winnings, once again meaning that you end up with more money should you win.

Occasionally, horse racing betting sites offer double or even triple odds, but this is rarer. In addition, the terms for this promotion are often very reasonable.

Enhanced Place Promotions

If you like to bet on each-way markets, enhanced place promotions can increase the place terms so there are more opportunities for you to win. For instance, if your bet's success rests on your horse placing in the first to the third positions, that can be enhanced to the first to fourth positions, so you have more chances to end up with a potentially successful wager.

This is another example where sometimes people don’t even realise the promotion is in place and get a rather pleasant surprise.

Risk-Free Bets

This is another example that is often seen as a welcome bonus. This is likely down to its generosity, meaning that horse racing bookmakers aren’t willing to offer it too regularly. The way it works is simple: place your bet within the given terms, and if it loses, you will receive some or all of your stake back. In other words, it’s risk-free because you get your stake returned whether you win or lose.

Rewards For Racing

While it is not technically a betting offer, Rewards For Racing is a website where you can collect points when making purchases, including placing bets on some bookies. These points can be redeemed for race day tickets, merch and much more. So if you like going to the races in person, you should definitely check it out.

Few sports are more popular in the realm of gambling than horse racing, hence its close-to-universal coverage across sportsbooks. The mixture of its simplicity of concept and the depths of its strategy makes it appealing to casual bettors and experts alike. Additionally, making the transition between the two is easier than it may initially appear, with the right guidance and the right horse racing betting site.
