Alejandro Garnacho looks set to leave Manchester United this summer, with Chelsea tipped as firm odds-on favourites to sign the Argentinian forward.

Garnacho’s relationship with United manager Ruben Amorim has deteriorated in recent weeks and the player has been excluded from the club's pre-season tour to Asia.

Alejandro Garnacho Transfer Odds: Argentine Given the Chop by Amorim
Alejandro Garnacho is pictured for Manchester United and is rumoured to be leaving the club this summer

The pair have failed to see eye to eye since Amorim took charge in November 2024, with the fallout attributed to tactical differences and a lack of defensive discipline shown by the 21-year-old.

It’s already been a busy summer in the transfer market for the Red Devils, with the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo already completed.

Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Barcelona was confirmed on Wednesday, and Amorim is looking to offload Garnacho in what could be a cut-price deal worth around £40 million, some £30 million less than what was quoted at the start of the window.

Alejandro Garnacho’s transfer odds to join Chelsea have been slashed to as short as 1/6 in places, suggesting that a deal is close. However, both Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest have expressed interest, which makes for an interesting few weeks ahead about where he could end up.

Chelsea Odds-On to Get the Deal Done

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Garnacho since January 2025, and momentum has picked up pace over a possible transfer in the last few days.

ESPN reported that a deal is being worked on, but they will need to offload to get it over the line. The possible outgoings of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson would mean that they free up space on the wage bill for Garnacho and more than cover the costs of the initial fee.

His playing style will suit Enzo Maresca’s system. He’s direct, quick, unpredictable and able to play anywhere across that front line, although favouring the left to cut back onto his right foot.

Statistically, his 24 goal involvements in 93 Premier League games demonstrate his ability to create and score, but Chelsea will demand a higher output from a dynamic winger.

Given Chelsea’s seemingly never-ending revolving door of players, it’s a move that wouldn’t be shocking, but with so many on the books, some will have to make way before it gets done.

Unai’s Wild Card? Garnacho Linked with Surprise Villa Move

If the Chelsea deal fails to materialise, a move to Aston Villa certainly has a feel that it would be a good fit for both parties.

The Independent reported in June 2025 that Villa were monitoring the situation following the departure of loanee Marcus Rashford. A decision not to make that deal permanent means they are short on attacking wide players, a role that Garnacho would slot into seamlessly.

Villa are a team on the up, and Unai Emery’s stock seemingly rises game on game. However, there’s no Champions League football this season at Villa Park, and this is something that could have a bearing on this deal getting over the line.

The transfer fee of around £40 million won’t be an issue, and Capology states he’s “only” on £50,000 per week at Manchester United, which makes it more than affordable.

For him to end up with The Villains, Chelsea would need to back out. But if they do, this would be the next best option to get his career back on track.

United to Forest? Garnacho Could Take Root at the City Ground

The fact that Nottingham Forest are even in the running for a player of Garnacho’s quality underlines how far the club have come.

They only narrowly missed out on Champions League football in 2024/25 and are putting the building blocks in place to become a force to be reckoned with going into 2025/26.

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves just yet. This would be a risk for Garnacho, who already has interest from clubs that are, respectively, bigger in stature.

While the noise coming out of Chelsea and Aston Villa is peaking, the odds of 14/1 to land at the City Ground are speculative at best.
