Champions League 2025/26 Top Scorer Tips Ahead of League Phase
When betting on the Champions League top scorer you are obviously looking for a player who is in a team that could make the business end of the competition. A team reaching the semi-finals or better will obviously play more games, giving their goalscorers more opportunities to get on the sheet.
You need to look carefully at the past records of players. Some tend to have better strike rates in Europe than in their domestic leagues and vice versa.
You need to look at how players are currently being deployed by their manager. Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid has spent the last couple of seasons in a very advanced role. However, he looks set to play deeper in the midfield this time round meaning that he will probably get less opportunities in front of goal and may not be as regular a scorer.
Now let’s have a closer look at some of the leading contenders.
Erling Haaland (Man City) 6/1: Five in Four Premier League Games This Season!
Like Manchester City, 2024/25 was not a great season by the lofty standards of Erling Haaland. However, despite there still being questions asked over City after two defeats in their opening four Premier League matches. Haaland on the other hand has rattled in five goals in those matches plus six in two games for Norway. That includes a five-goal haul in the 11-1 demolition of Moldova.
Haaland has a staggering record in the Champions League with 49 goals in 48 games. He was the competition's leading scorer in 2022/23 and in 2020/21. He could well repeat the feat this season, though much of it will depend on what version of Manchester City we see. At this stage 6/1 looks like a fair price.
Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) 7/1: Frenchman Firing With Four in Four in La Liga
Kylian Mbappe, joint leading scorer in the 2023/24 campaign has opened the La Liga season with four goals and an assist in the opening four games. He has been a major player as Real Madrid have got Xavi Alonso’s first league season as manager off to a 100% start.
Both 15 times winners Madrid and Mbappe will have designs on lifting the trophy at the end of the season after a disappointing quarter-final exit in 2024/25. We think that 7/1 is a fair price and we suggest you get in early as a couple of goals against Marseille this week will see his price shorten.
Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona) – 8/1 Evergreen Star is a Contender
Let’s get one thing out there. Robert Lewandowski is still a class act. He has had a stellar career as one of the world’s best strikers and we can see why he features high up in the betting. Barcelona are genuine contenders for the trophy and Lewandowski is still capable of scoring goals against the best. However, we feel that at 37 years old that boss Hansi Flick might manage his minutes. This may just put him out of the running. We would leave this one alone.
Ousmane Dembele (PSG) – 14/1 Forward Looks to Inspire PSG to Retain Trophy
Ousmane Dembele was a revelation last season, adding an end product and consistency to his game to go with his undoubted talent. We think that these odds look tempting as PSG look as if they will make a strong defence of the trophy which they won in superb style last season. There is more to Dembele’s game than goals, however, the odds look favourable at this stage.
Hugo Ekitike (Liverpool) – 16/1: A Great Outside Bet
If you’re looking for an outside bet then look no further than Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike. Although the Frenchman has made an impressive start to his Liverpool career most pundits expect him to play second fiddle to Alexander Isak in terms of securing the main striking role at Anfield.
However, Isak is not currently match fit after an extended period training alone in the build up to his move to Liverpool. It looks likely that Ekitike could get plenty of game time in the first couple of match days in the Champions League and if he bags a few goals then he could be a genuine contender. For both the Champions League golden boot and for a starting position at Liverpool, either instead of or alongside Isak. With each-way odds paying ¼ with four places we think he is a great outside shout. Liverpool will be gunning for the trophy this season so he is likely to be involved deep into the competition.
Raphinha (Barcelona) – 16/1: Repeat Performance on the Cards?
Last season’s joint top scorer Raphinha was on fire in this competition last season. It is testament to the quality of players in the Champions League that his odds are as long this time round. The only man to match his Champions League goal output last season, Serhou Guirassy, has even longer odds, the Borussia Dortmund forward is priced at 50/1.
Barca will be contenders again and Raphinha is definitely worth an each-way bet.
