Let’s look at each match individually to see the reasoning behind our selections.
Bolton Wanderers vs Port Vale – Bolton to Win & Under 2.5 Goals
Both sides have featured in some high-scoring matches in this competition; however, we expect this clash to be more in line with their league form. In League One this season, 60% of Bolton’s matches and 61% of Port Vale’s fixtures have seen less than three goals. We expect that to be the case here.
Although Bolton have stuttered a little recently, we expect the promotion-chasing Trotters to have too much for Port Vale. The cup competitions have provided Vale with some cheer in a season where their league form has been poor. But we don’t see them getting past Bolton here, despite two wins in their last two games, including an FA Cup victory over Fleetwood in new manager Jon Brady’s first match in charge. We predict a home win in a low-scoring match.
Huddersfield Town vs Rotherham United: Huddersfield to Win & Over 2.5 Goals
We expect Huddersfield, fifth in League One, to get past Rotherham, who sit third from bottom of the same division, in this Yorkshire derby.
We are also expecting goals. Huddersfield are League One’s top scorers; however, they have also shipped 35 goals in 26 matches, the same number as their struggling opponents have conceded. In the league, our stats from Kickform show that 62% of the Terriers’ matches have seen over 2.5 goals, with Rotherham’s fixtures having seen three or more goals in 54% of their games. In the EFL Trophy, 50% of Huddersfield's fixtures and 75% of Rotherham’s have seen over 2.5 goals. We are tipping Huddersfield to beat the Millers in a high-scoring match.
Stockport County vs Harrogate Town – Stockport to Win
We’re keeping the final leg of our 10bet treble simple. We’re going for Stockport, fourth in League One, to beat Harrogate, who are second from bottom of League Two. While this competition has given Town some much-needed positives this season, we believe that Stockport will simply be too good for them. Home win.
