Darren Moore has been sacked as Port Vale manager following a string of 11 winless games that have the Vale rooted to the bottom of League One. The bookies have already opened the market for his replacement as the next Port Vale manager odds go live.
In a statement released by the club on Sunday evening, the board added that the time was now to “take the necessary steps to move the club forward and rebuild momentum”. The 5-0 drubbing away to Huddersfield on Boxing Day proved to be the final straw for Moore, who has been at the club for almost two years, securing promotion from League Two in 2024-25.

Darren Ferguson
Darren Ferguson has emerged as the early favourite to take charge at Vale Park. Ferguson was sacked by Peterborough in October 2025, ending his fourth spell in charge, but has a great track record of keeping clubs afloat in both League One and Two.
The market has moved quickly on this, shortening the Scot to 6/4, and there’s just enough value there to get excited about taking the price. If he wants to jump straight back into management, this would be a move that suits both parties, and with four promotions and three Wembley wins, it would be a shrewd move from the Port Vale board to get this over the line.
Jon Brady
Jon Brady seems to have been linked to every EFL manager’s job over the last 12 months since leaving his role at Northampton Town in December 2024. When the board talk about rebuilding momentum, Brady would tick these boxes, and is more of a system builder than a firefighter.
But for Port Vale, they need results, and quickly. Brady’s more methodical than someone like Ferguson, investing heavily in player development. A do more, with less, attitude, if you will.
He’s 5/1 to get the job, but if there’s one thing that the Vale don’t have right now, it’s time. Brady has already turned down a host of clubs struggling to remain in the EFL, and we can’t see how this would change with Port Vale. One to swerve, for now.
Matt Bloomfield
Matt Bloomfield is an interesting pick in the field for the next Port Vale manager odds. He left Luton Town in October 2025 after a poor start to life in League One following relegation from the Championship.
But it’s unfair to put too much of the onus on Bloomfield. The club had been reshaped after back-to-back relegations from the Premier League and the Championship, and at times, he had them playing eye-catching football, with many in the fanbase wanting to give him more time than the nine months he was given.
On paper, Bloomfield looks like a good fit for the Vale. Young, hungry, and a point to prove. Of all the picks outside of the noise for Darren Ferguson, this makes the most sense and at 6/1 in the early market, good value as well.
