Three of the six teams featuring in Sunday’s Premier League acca tips have had a busy week on the continent, so it’ll be interesting to see if there are any European hangovers heading into Week 23.
The game of the day comes from the Emirates, where high-flying Arsenal take on a rejuvenated Manchester United side, fresh off a derby day hammering of Man City. Elsewhere, two of the league’s form sides in Newcastle United and Aston Villa meet at St James’ Park, Nottingham Forest travel to a Brentford side looking to qualify for Europe for the first time, and Chelsea make the trip down and across the Thames to face a Crystal Palace falling apart at the seams.

Bet 1: Brentford vs Nottingham Forest – Brentford to Win @ 19/20
It doesn’t seem all that long ago that there were talks about how long Keith Andrews would last as Brentford manager. Through the summer, they lost key players like Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and Christian Nørgaard, plus the fact that their idolised manager Thomas Frank had upped sticks to the other side of London to manage rivals Spurs.
But after 23 games, they’ve picked up 33 points, perched in seventh place and have a legitimate chance of Europe next season. Their home form has been the backbone of their success, having lost just once in eleven, with only Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa picking up more points.
Forest have struggled away from the City Ground, with a lack of goals being at the heart of their issues. They were booed off after their mid-week defeat against Braga in the Europa League, and it’ll take a monumental effort to get back up for this game on Sunday as they come up against a hungrier, fresher and to be brutally honest, better Brentford side.
Brentford to take all three points is the first part of Sunday’s Premier League acca.
Bet 2: Crystal Palace vs Chelsea – Chelsea to Win @ 21/20
What is going on at Crystal Palace? Within the space of a couple weeks the manager confirmed he wouldn’t be staying past the summer – although expected for the most part – they sold their captain to Manchester City less than 24 hours before a crucial game at Sunderland and it looks like they’re going to struggle to keep hold of star striker Jean Phillipe Mateta who has been heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa.
The Eagles have picked up just five points in their last eight games and, after a strong start to the season, are sliding down the league at an alarming rate. To rub salt into the wound, it sounds like Glasner is looking for an early exit from this sinking ship, and is just 3/1 to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.
Chelsea are just getting to grips with their new manager, Liam Rosenior. Aside from a few quotes that wouldn’t be amiss from David Brent in an episode of The Office, the Englishman has got off to a solid start, winning three of his opening four fixtures.
Palace have won just two games at home all season, and even though they’ve drawn six of their 11, it’s tough to see how they’ll get anything out of this game on Sunday. They’ve conceded in seven of 11 at home, failed to score in five and have no wins in six. A little better than even money for a Chelsea win is the play.
Bet 3: Arsenal vs Manchester United – Arsenal to Lead at HT and FT @ 6/4
If this game had been scheduled while Ruben Amorim was still at the helm, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone to suggest that Manchester United would get anything out of a stubborn Arsenal side at the Emirates.
But the appointment of Michael Carrick as interim manager until the summer and the demolition job of their noisy neighbours in blue has sparked renewed optimism at Old Trafford. Granted, optimism that we’ve seen instilled and then dashed several times over the last decade, but optimism nevertheless.
That said, when you look at the numbers for Arsenal vs Manchester United, it’s hard to see past anything other than an Arsenal win. They’re a much stronger, more organised team than City and are unbeaten at home (W9, D2).
What’s notable is that they’re fast starters and have led in 64% of their home games by half-time – bettered only by Manchester City. What’s most impressive is that, in each of those seven games when they’ve been ahead, they’ve seen the game out to claim all three points.
They’re 6/4 to do just that on Saturday and apply a serious reality check over the early euphoria of Carrick’s reign at the helm.
