The only surprising thing about the news that Brian Daboll had been sacked as head coach of the New York Giants was that it took as long as it did to happen. The former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator took the top job with the Giants in 2022 and got off to a solid start, guiding the New York franchise to a 9-7-1 debut season.

Things have since gone south, and quickly. In 2024, the Giants finished 3-14, a franchise record for losses, with many Big Blue fans calling for Daboll to leave in the summer. But the owners, John Mara and Steve Tisch, kept the faith, initially at least. That proved to be blind faith, and after another dismal start (2-7) and a season all but over at the start of November, the plug was pulled and Daboll was ultimately relieved of his duties.

For the Giants, all that remains now is who’s next? The next New York Giants head coach odds are live, and we’re going to work out where the value sits at this early stage.

Value Play – Mike Kafka 12/1

It’s surprising to see Mike Kafka priced as long as 12/1, given that he’s been handed the keys since Daboll’s dismissal. He’s up and coming, but has already held talks with other NFL franchises in the summer about potential head coach roles. These were ultimately blocked by the Giants, who promoted him to assistant head coach, eager for him to learn the ropes at the highest level.

One of the issues that continued to arise with Daboll was his fiery temperament on the sidelines. He wasn’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers, but that’s not always the best way to get the most out of a team. Kafka, on the other hand, was a calming influence. A voice of reason, if you will. He’s measured. Composed. And he would be the pick if the board opts for evolution over revolution.

Prediction: Kafka is the value play at 12/1, which looks like a massive price.

Sentimental Play – Steve Spagnuolo 9/1

If not Kafka, could Spagnuolo complete a full-circle return? He was part of the famous 2007 title team, which now feels a long time ago, and even had a brief stint as interim head coach back in 2017. His work as defensive coordinator with the Chiefs has been widely praised, and he’ll no doubt add much-needed expertise in New York.

The only thing holding Spagnuolo back would be his age. At 65, he’s no spring chicken, and even though his expertise lies on the defensive side, it’s a league all about offence these days. However, on paper, he ticks all the boxes. If the owners decide that a fresh start is needed away from Kafka, then Steve Spagnuolo would be our pick at 9/1.

Wildcard – Bill Belichick 16/1

The legacy play is with Bill Belichick. He helped guide the Giants to two Super Bowl wins as defensive coordinator and remains great friends with the Mara family to this day. There’s also the small matter of chasing down Don Shula’s all-time win record (347), of which he sits just 14 shy.

At 73, it’s a short window now for Bill. He’ll likely not want to commit to a long-term deal, so this would be a short contract, likely in place for him to break the record. But with so many ties to the franchise and the owners, 16/1 looks like a big price right now and a great alternative to the two former picks.
