NFL Wild Card Round Sharp Money and Public Betting Report

The regular season is wrapped, and we’re heading into the Wild Card round following yet another positive round of fixtures from Week 18. That makes it 13 winning weeks out of 17 called, for a win percentage of ~60%. Not too bad, if we do say so ourselves.

But we’re not resting on our laurels just yet, and we’ve got six more cracking games coming up this week. The Eagles taking on the 49ers on Sunday night looks like the pick of the bunch, but there are no bad teams at this stage, which means no bad games.

As you can see, there’s not a huge amount to work with from this week in terms of money tracking or lines. But there are still a couple of interesting trends here, and all six games have at least a medium confidence rating. Here are our two picks for the Wild Card round.

49ers @ Eagles: Confidence 7.5 – Eagles -5

This is the game of the round. The Super Bowl winner could well come from this matchup, such is the talent on show. Both the money and the public are heavy with the 49ers here, but the line is still shortening with the Eagles. It’s one of those where it’s more about who is betting, not necessarily the volume of bets. As a result, the cheat sheet is telling us to go with the Eagles at -5. But a word of warning: this is getting quite a large spread, so if it keeps shortening, we’re going to be less enthusiastic about the pick.

Packers @ Bears: Confidence 6.5 – Bears +1.5

This Packers vs the Bears game is actually super interesting. There’s very little in the spread (+/-1.5), and on paper, it's the closest game of the Wild Card round. The Bears have taken most of the tickets and the money, with the line holding steady through the week – a key indicator that spread is priced tightly. By backing the Bears at +1.5 at home, we’ve got a bit of cover in a tight game. With the public and money both aligned, and the line refusing to move, Bears +1.5 is the play.
