Favourites To Win the World Cup

Given the recent performances in the World Cup qualification journey, as well as international tournaments such as the EURO 2020, Copa America, and AFCON, one can start to get a clearer indication of the state the favourites to win the World Cup are in.

  • Brazil

Brazil is looking solid defensively and efficient in attack, having scored 12 goals and only conceded 2 in 6 games on their way to the Copa America final, which they eventually lost to Argentina. The same holds for the World Cup qualification journey, which has seen them scoring 32 goals and only conceding 5 in 15 qualification matches. Apart from the Copa America final, Brazil haven't lost any of the matches mentioned. So having them as the favourites to win isn't really that surprising given the form they're in.

  • France

Despite going out early in the EURO 2020 after a surprise comeback by Switzerland in the Round of 16, Fraance had a convincing qualification journey, winning 5 out of 8 matches and only conceding 3 goals. France also managed to win the UEFA Nations League, which means they are now the defending champions of the World Cup and the Nations League simultaneously. With the inspired return to international football from Benzema and the likes of Mbappe, Coman and Griezmann up front, France's attack is one to fear.

  • Spain

Spain have been slowly but surely transitioning from the World Cup (2010) and EURO Championship (2012) winning side to a younger side with the likes of Gavi, Dani Olmo, Pedri, Ferran Torres and Eric Garcia all getting their chance to wear their national team's shirt in recent matches. As they build more consistency with their respective clubs, the national team is bound to become better and better. Spain's performance in the most recent European competitions has shown a lot of flair but a slight lack of experience. We are looking forward to seeing how Luis Enrique's team will do in the World Cup.

  • Germany

Throughout the years, Germany has always proven to be one of the most consistently good teams in world football, and this year is no different. Germany have only lost 1 world cup qualifier in the past 20 years, but the one they did lose was against North Macedonia in this campaign. Under new ex-Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick, Germany have played 7 matches, scored 31 goals and conceded 2. The fact that 7 players currently play for Bayern Munich is probably an advantage to them since they already know his style of play. When at the top of their game, Germany is a force to be reckoned with - Brazil can confirm that from first-hand experience.

  • England

In the EURO 2020, England were a couple of penalties away from winning their first international title since 1966, but it was not to be. Since then, the players in the squad have mostly maintained their top performance levels and will be eager to get the World Cup campaign started as soon as possible. Gareth Southgate will face the usual headache to choose the eventual final squad to go to Qatar. In the last 7 games played since the EURO 2020 final, England have scored 30 goals and conceded 2, despite Southgate making frequent changes in the starting 11 as well as the starting formation. It goes to show how flexible the team can be - an important feature when facing tough competition. This could be a good time to be betting on England.

World Cup Qualifiers

The World Cup qualification matches have granted a place in the finals to Brazil, Argentina, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Croatia, England, Germany, IR Iran and Korea Republic.

The rest of the World Cup finalists will be determined by the remaining qualifying matches and playoffs. The odds on the remaining teams to qualify are:
