Now let’s look at each match individually to see why we think that our selections will come in.
Bet 1: Barnsley vs Brighton Over 2.5 Goals and BTTS (5/4)
Looking at our stats hub we can see that both sides have featured in a high percentage of matches where both teams have found the net. This has occurred 63% of the time for the Tykes and 80% of that for Brighton. Then when you flip back to last season you can see that both teams topped their divisions for games when both teams scored with 70% and 71% respectively.
70% of Barnsley’s games have featured over 2.5 goals, while this has been the case for the Seagulls 60% of the time. We think that not only will there be more than three goals in this one but that they will come at both ends. Odds of 5/4 for over 2.5 goals and BTTS is strongly backed by stats.
Bet 2: Lincoln City vs Chelsea Over 10.0 Corners (11/8)
With all due respect to the Imps it would be a major shock if Chelsea did not progress. We feel, however, that there is value to be found in the corner markets. Chelsea have been awarded 33 corners in five Premier League matches this season, an average of 6.6 per game. 100% of their fixtures have seen more than 7.5 corners while there have been more than 10.5 in 60%.
Lincoln has won an average of three flag kicks per 90 minutes and 89% of their games have seen a total of more than 7.5. Given that Chelsea is likely to dominate possession and territory we feel that the away side will continue to rack up a lot of corners. We can only see an increase compared to the league data which means we are confident in there being 11 or more corners in this one.
Bet 3: Wigan vs Wycombe Over 10.0 Corners (5/4)
Once again, it is the corner market that has caught our attention. Looking at the stats from League One this season, the two teams have won an average of 7.1 and 5.1 corners respectively, and both have seen more than 7.5 corners in 78% of their fixtures. 67% of Wigan’s games have seen over 10.5 corners so we have every reason to expect there to be over 10 on Tuesday evening.
Bet 4: Liverpool vs Southampton BTTS and Liverpool to Win (6/4)
Liverpool have won five from five in the league, against fairly stiff opposition, and have seen off Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. The frightening thing is that Arne Slot’s side haven’t really played well to date. So, everything points to a fairly comfortable home win in this one, even allowing for squad rotation.
Southampton have made a disappointing start to life in the Championship after relegation. A crumb of comfort for Saints fans is that their side has found the net in all but one of their matches this season. In the previous round of the EFL Cup they hit three without reply at Norwich.
Liverpool has, at times, looked relatively vulnerable at the back this season. 60% of their league matches have seen both teams get on the scoresheet while Atlético notched twice in their Champions League game to pull the scores level after the Reds seemed to have the match won. While we see a comfortable home win, we also think that there may be a defensive slip that allows the visitors to grab a consolation. A home win with both teams scoring is a great bet at 6/4.
