With the summer transfer window hurtling towards its 1 September deadline, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba’s next club odds have been slashed to 8/13 to join Manchester United.

Carlos Baleba warming up for Brighton ahead of a potential summer exit to Manchester United

The high-energy, ball-winning number six joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 for £23 million and has gone on to become one of the most exciting prospects in the league.

Figures upward of £100 million have been touted to get a deal done, which would be The Seagulls' second nine-figure sale following Moisés Caicedo’s move to Chelsea for £110 million in 2023.

It would be an astronomical figure for the 21-year-old Cameroonian international who is under contract until 2028. However, Fabrizio Romano has already indicated that formal contact has been made by Manchester United representatives, signalling that a move could be close.

With both Chelsea and Manchester City rumoured also to be interested in the starlet, the question that remains is where is the value in Carlos Baleba’s next club odds?

Baleba to Man Utd: The Midfield Anchor Amorim Craves

Ruben Amorim has invested heavily in his front line this summer, adding £200 million of talent to bolster their sorry goalscoring record from 2024/25. If we’ve learned anything from the opening couple of games this season, it’s that they still need a capable number six to allow Bruno Fernandes more freedom in the eight role.

As great as Casemiro once was, he simply doesn’t have the legs to command the middle of the park, and the jury is still out on whether Ugarte or Mainoo are ready to step up.

On paper, if they can get this deal done, it would be a huge signing. Baleba slots straight into that six position, which is pivotal to Amorim’s fluid 3-4-2-1/3-4-3 structure as one of the few constants. He’d bring the legs to the team and is comfortable shifting into the eight role when needed.

It sounds like Baleba would be open to the move, but with so much already invested this summer, players would need to leave to enable the Red Devils to surpass £300 million in total transfer fees.

Odds of 8/13 are short, but this is the right player at the right time, and if he were to leave Brighton, this looks almost certain as Baleba’s next club.

Could Chelsea Outbid United for Brighton’s Starlet?

talkSPORT were the first to break the news that Chelsea were interested in bringing Carlos Baleba to the Bridge. On one hand, it’s surprising to see them linked, given how both Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo are now starting to look worthy of the astronomical transfer fees paid for both.

But then, on the other hand, seeing Chelsea in the mix to sign yet another player, regardless of position or cost, is now as common as an Arsenal Fans TV meltdown.

Like Man U, the six role is vital in Enzo Maresca’s style, often using inverted full-backs as a double pivot and using someone like Baleba next to or to rotate with them. For this specific role, he fits the bill more than Fernandez and, arguably, Lavia, for that matter.

Odds of 9/2 suggest that this deal isn’t dead, and we know Chelsea can act fast thanks to Uncle Todd shopping like he’s on Temu. But it feels like the move only happens if Manchester United pull out, and even then, it’s not a position they desperately need to strengthen.

As a result, we’d fade this move and take him to head to Old Trafford at odds of 8/13.
