We will now look at each of the matches in detail to explain our selections.
Blackburn Rovers vs Derby County: Under 2.5 Goals
Blackburn Rovers sit in 18th place in the Championship table with 16 points from 13 matches and only 13 goals scored. They host Derby County who are in 11th spot. We see this as a low-scoring match. There have been less than 2.5 goals in 57% of Rovers’ matches and 64% of Derby’s. Blackburn have averaged exactly a goal per game while Derby have managed 1.29 goals per game. Looking at the Kickform predictions, the three most likely scores are 1-0, 1-1, and 0-1. So, we feel that Under 2.5 Goals is a sensible bet here.
Sheffield United vs Queens Park Rangers: Over 10.0 Corners
It has been a grim season in the Steel City. Sheffield United sit second bottom of the Championship table with only city rivals Wednesday below them. The Blades, suffering a huge hangover from last season’s play-off heartbreak, host 16th placed Queens Park Rangers who have had a mediocre time of it so far.
It is the corner market that has caught our eye. 86% of Sheffield United’s matches and 64% of QPR’s games have seen over 7.5 corners. When we raise the line to 10.5, this has come up in 50% of United’s games. And, while the Blades may be battling relegation, they top the Championship’s corner count, averaging 7.5 per match with QPR averaging 4.71. Therefore, we think over 10 corners is likely in this one.
Southampton vs Sheffield Wednesday: Over 11.0 Corners
Both sides have had miserable campaigns to date. The Saints are down in 19th position and last week parted company with boss Will Still. Wednesday are rock bottom.
Both sides are winning plenty of corners though. The Saints are seventh in the Championship for corners won with an average of 5.36 per match. Wednesday are third with 5.79 corners per game. 86% of both sides’ matches have seen over 7.5 corners and 50% of Wednesday’s games have seen over 11.5 flag kicks. We think that the11/10 odds for over 11 corners at bet365 are good value and make a great addition to our acca.
Stoke City vs Coventry City: Under 3.5 Goals
Second placed Stoke City host leaders Coventry City in this top of the table clash which could go some way to shaping the promotion race. It is also a meeting of the division’s meanest defence and the highest scorers.
Stoke have built their challenge on a solid defence with only nine goals conceded in 14 matches. They have managed to find the net 21 times, a total boosted by a 3-0 midweek win at Oxford United.
The noise around Coventry has been about their tremendous record in attack, with 39 goals in 14 games. However, they have shipped only 13 goals, a defensive record bettered only by Stoke, Charlton Athletic, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough.
We anticipate a tight match, but we feel both sides have too much going forward for us to go for under 2.5 goals. The three most likely results according to Kickform are 1-2, 2-1 and 1-1. So, we feel that under 3.5 goals is the way to go.
