Now let’s have a closer look at the four fixtures to see the reasoning behind our expert picks.
Blackburn Rovers vs Sheffield United: Under 2.5 Goals (4/6)
This season has been a struggle for both sides with Blackburn sitting third bottom of the Championship table, a point and a place better off than the visitors, albeit with a game in hand. Sheffield United have suffered from a massive hangover after their play-off final loss last season and are showing only limited signs of recovery.
Both teams have struggled for goals, with only 11 between them this season. Our stats hub also reveals that 70% of Rovers’ matches and 60% of the Blades’ games have seen less than 2.5 goals. We see this as being a low-scoring encounter, so under 2.5 goals for this is a good place to begin our acca.
Hull City vs Leicester City: BTTS – Yes (8/11)
Hull City, currently 10th in the Championship table, host fourth placed Leicester City, who have made a steady start in their bid to return to the Premier League.
The hosts have outscored everyone apart from league leaders Coventry City so far this season with 17 goals. The problem is that they have conceded 18. While the stats are not quite as extreme, Leicester have performed reasonably in front of goal with a tally of 14 but have shipped nine, a higher total than the three sides above them. Both teams have scored in 70% of both sides’ matches this season, and we believe that there will be goals at both ends in this one.
Portsmouth vs Coventry City: Brandon Thomas-Asante to Score or Assist (21/20)
Portsmouth, currently in 14th, host free-scoring leaders Coventry City. The unbeaten Sky Blues have rattled in 29 goals in 10 matches and, needless to say, several of their players are featuring highly among the division’s top scorers.
It is Brandon Thomas-Asante who has caught our attention. The forward has nine direct goal contributions this season, with six goals and three assists, and we think that bet365’s price of 21/20 for him to score or assist is decent value.
Bristol City vs Southampton: Over 10 Corners (6/5)
Southampton travel to play off chasing Bristol City as they bid to drag themselves out of midtable and into the promotion race. It is the corner market that has grabbed our attention here.
Bristol City have averaged 5.30 corners per game, while the Saints have a slightly higher average of 5.80. Matches involving both teams have regularly exceeded 7.5 corners per game, and we feel that with the two coming together, the corner count will be 11 or more.
