Leicester and Van Nistelrooy have just parted ways on mutual consent. The Foxes are now desperate for a new manager to bounce them back to the Premier League. Who will they turn to?
Van Nistelrooy’s long-anticipated departure has finally come to pass, and with just over a month until the new season, Leicester need to bring someone in fast.
The Foxes will be looking for someone who can guide them straight up to the Premier League and be able to hold his own against the big boys in the top division.
These are the top next Leicester manager odds, priced by BetVictor:
| Manager | Odds |
|---|---|
| Gary O'Neil | 2/5 |
| Chris Wilder | 4/1 |
| Danny Rohl | 5/1 |
| Sean Dyche | 6/1 |
| Lee Carsley | 10/1 |
A Feel For O'Neil?
Gary O’Neil has emerged as the current bookmakers’ favourite to become the next Leicester City manager.
The 42-year-old has been out of work since December 2024, when he was dismissed by Wolves with the club sitting 19th in the Premier League, four points from safety. This was the second time he experienced the sack, having previously been replaced at Bournemouth despite steering them to survival in the 2022/23 campaign.
While both spells ended in disappointment, they also represent valuable top-level experience for a young manager still in the early stages of his coaching career. In a recent interview, O’Neil admitted he’s “ready to go again” and has spent time reflecting on his past roles and preparing for the next challenge.
At this point in his career, a drop to the Championship could provide the perfect platform to rebuild momentum. With the Foxes aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League, O’Neil's exposure to top-flight pressure may make him a smart bet for the job.
Dyche Back In Action
Sean Dyche is currently out of management after getting the boot from Everton. He’s a very experienced manager and is a specialist in Premier League survival.
His credentials with Burnley alone should be enough for any club in Leicester’s position to want his signature. He’s also won the Championship 10 seasons ago, and this could be a good chance for him to taste silverware and rebuild a squad again.
The only thing that may leave fans unimpressed is Dyche’s often old-school tactical style of play. If he’s winning games, though, that won’t matter too much.
Danny Rohl Move
Danny Rohl could be out the door at Sheffield Wednesday, as an internal crisis has rocked the camp. Rohl steered Wednesday to a respectable 12th place last season, but the issues are far from over.
The main issue is that Rohl has his eyes set on home, with a move to the Bundesliga being his preferred option. Leicester could sway him into staying in England, especially with a good chance of Premier League football next season.
Leicester’s Great Expectations
As a newly relegated side, the minimum expected of the new manager is an immediate return to the Premier League. This has become a more common trend, that relegated sides to bounce back, mainly thanks to parachute payments.
We'd think the Foxes are one of the strongest contenders to bounce back up, but the bookies are less convinced, probably due to their financial troubles. Bet365 have priced Leicester at 12/1 to win the league, and 9/2 for promotion.
Whoever the next Leicester manager is, he’s got his work cut out for him.
