Europa League action returns this Thursday night… the competition which normally sees Europe’s second-rate clubs make four-hour trips to cities most of us can’t even pronounce. Fortunately, we are quickly approaching the knockout phase, meaning there’s a lot on the line this Thursday night, 22 January.

Bet 1: Bologna vs Celtic Both Teams to Score – Yes

With Bologna eyeing up a top-eight finish and Celtic clinging on to a play-off place, there is certainly a lot on the line at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

Interestingly, five of Bologna’s last six competitive games have seen both teams score, with the Serie A side showing quality in attack but also frailties in defence.

In the Europa League, I Rossoblu have also seen BTTS land in four of their six matches.

Celtic, on the other hand, have won their last three matches to nil since Martin O’Neill returned to the Parkhead dugout. However, all three wins came against teams that are significantly weaker than Bologna.

The Scottish champions have seen BTTS land in all three of their Europa League away matches this season, and we are backing that trend to continue.

Bet 2: Aston Villa Over 0.5 Goals Away at Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce have made a tremendous start to 2026, winning all four of their competitive matches, including a 2-0 victory over rivals Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Cup.

With momentum on their side, Domenico Tedesco’s men will be full of confidence as they prepare to welcome Premier League outfit Aston Villa to the intimidating Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

The Villans have managed to rattle the net in all three of their Europa League away games, and they certainly have enough quality in the squad to keep that trend going.

For all of Fenerbahce’s momentum, they have conceded in six of their previous nine home matches across all competitions. This includes Europa League matches against Nice and Ferencvaros.

Bet 3: Braga Over 0.5 Goals vs Nottingham Forest

Sitting just two points adrift of the top eight, Nottingham Forest could do with victories in their remaining two league-phase matches.

Picking up all three points away in Braga will be a lot easier said than done, especially with Forest losing five of their previous seven outings in all comps.

When it comes to home matches, Braga are very comfortable in the goalscoring department, rattling the net in eight successive matches at the Estadio Municipal de Braga.

Bet 4: Ludogorets Over 0.5 Goals Away at Rangers

While the three other British teams still have knockout-phase aspirations, Rangers are miles behind the competition, picking up just one point from their six Europa League matches.

Despite this, the Teddy Bears have enjoyed a bit of a resurgence under new manager Danny Rohl, and they are back in the hunt for the Scottish Premiership crown.

Bearing everything in mind, we are not expecting the hosts to field their best players and risk their title chances in pursuit of European pride.

Ludogorets, on the other hand, will treat this fixture with the utmost importance as they look to qualify for the Europa League knockout stage for the first time in six years. The club have scored more goals in Europe this season than Aston Villa, Braga and FC Porto, meaning they are capable of causing problems.
