Bet 1: Bristol City vs Ipswich – Over 2.5 Goals
We kick off our Championship acca tips at Ashton Gate, where Bristol City host Ipswich Town. City have the joint-second-most goals in the league so far this campaign (13) and are a solid top-quarter-performing team offensively, averaging 14.7 shots per match and 3.9 on target per match. An important metric to consider for the overs is the BTTS Yes return, which stands at 54%, making this market particularly attractive.
Ipswich have also been strong in attack, scoring 11 goals in six games, with the fourth highest xG in the league, 10.8. Between them, the two teams are averaging 3.24 goals per game, and odds of 10/11 are just on the right side of fair to hold strong value as our first pick.
Bet 2: Leicester vs Wrexham – Both Teams to Score: Yes
Wrexham have been nothing if not entertaining in their first season in the Championship. They’ve been involved in 25 goals (12 for and 13 against) in their opening seven games and have underperformed their xG by 4.2 goals, suggesting these numbers are low. 86% of their games have triggered BTTS, with that number dropping slightly to 67% for away games.
Leicester have been a little more pragmatic in their return to the Championship, but still look a threat going forward and average just over two goals per game from their first seven. Their style means they have the lion's share of possession and will likely go on to seal all three points, but Wrexham’s attacking flair makes 5/6 a big price to at least grab a goal.
Bet 3: Middlesbrough vs Stoke – Middlesbrough to Win
It’s top versus third at the Riverside in the game of the week. Boro have flown out of the blocks with 17 points from seven games, winning all three of their home games and conceding just once – a 2-1 victory over West Brom – which sees them top the table.
Stoke will be equally buoyed by their early-season form, with just two defeats from their opening run, and they sit third. Expected goals stats would suggest they’re punching above their weight. They’re outperforming both goals scored (10 vs xG 8.8) and goals conceded (5 vs xGA 8.4). Those are the kind of metrics that scream unsustainability long-term and possibly something that’s been overlooked, given Boro’s generous odds of even-money to take all three points.
