England team celebrating before playing in the Group K World Cup Qualifiers against Serbia

A mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash lies ahead in Group K of the World Cup Qualifiers, and for the winner, a significant step toward automatic qualification.

England come into the game with a perfect four wins from four and are yet to concede a goal. Tuchel’s pragmatic approach has led to victories over Albania, Latvia and twice against Andorra, but performances have been lacklustre to say the least, and Serbia will be the biggest test of his short tenure in charge at St. George’s Park.

Dragan Stojković will set up his Serbian side to be hard to beat. A 3-5-2 system leads on wing-back supply from Kostić and Živković, to feed the likes of Mitrović and Vlahović, which has so far yielded a lot of success, earning seven points from nine to sit second in Group K.

The last competitive meeting between the two sides came at Euro 2024, where England scraped past with a 1-0 win. It will be another close encounter in Belgrade on Tuesday as Tuchel pushes for an antiseptic, professional away day that he prides himself on.

Bet 1: Full Time Result – England to Win

England have been effective if a little underwhelming so far under Tuchel. Saturday’s 2-0 win over Andorra raised more questions than answers, but playing against a team that sits 10 men behind the ball for 90 minutes is going to be hard to break down at any level.

Their quality should be enough to get them through. They rank as the fourth best in the European ELO ratings, with Serbia in 15th. As much as England fans will want to see exciting and expansive football, this game won’t be that. Instead, Tuchel will look to suffocate with his high press and try to control the ball for extensive periods as they pick apart a solid-looking Serbian backline, led by Nottingham Forest’s Nikola Milenković.

It might not be pretty at times, but 4/5 looks a big price for England to set a real marker in this qualifying campaign and put significant daylight between themselves and the Serbians.

Bet 2: Under 2.5 Goals

Two teams that have struggled to score and have been rock solid at the back give us an easy pick for the total goals market, where we’re backing under 2.5.

If the 1-0 win in the 2024 European Championship taught us anything, it’s that these are two well-matched teams. England topped Serbia’s xG of 0.18 by just 0.52 in a game that saw few chances for either team.

Serbia at home is a fixture most nations would want to avoid, but we’ve an inkling that Tuchel will be licking his lips at the strategic battle that will no doubt ensue.

Admittedly, it could be a tough watch, but that gives us even more confidence that the under 2.5 goals is the play here.

Bet 3: Over Four Corners for England

England have covered over 4.5 in each of their last four matches. Their style suits this market more than most, mainly because they dominate possession and revert to wide players to create space against low blocks.

Dragan Stojković’s 3-5-2 should restrict some of that room as the wing-backs drop deep, which then leads to an increase in blocks and deflections. The three centre-backs will defend the box like Trojans and are all strong in the air, which is another key consideration.

Chances in the game may be sterile, but the corner market is one we can absolutely get on board with.

Bet 4: Harry Kane to Score Anytime

If England are to win, as we’ve predicted above, then they need to score and the logical play here is Harry Kane. The all-time leading scorer for the Three Lions has three in four games so far, and given that he will be on penalty duty, this boosts the chances he will find the back of the net again on Tuesday.

Qualifiers are where he excels. A return of 43 goals and 11 assists in 38 major-tournament qualifiers is an astonishing record, and his role in the team is vital to England’s success in Belgrade.

In tight, scrappy games, you need the best to step up, and that’s exactly why Kane, anytime goalscorer, gets the nod here.
