Qualification

To get to the tournament proper, all teams who form part of UEFA participate in the qualification round. This year, 53 teams will be taking part, resulting in two less teams than the previous edition. This is because Germany is hosting and therefore don’t need to qualify, and Russia have so far been banned from the competition due to their ongoing and illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Firstly, all teams were divided into seven pots depending on their coefficient from the UEFA Nations League, with the first pot consisting of the four teams who are still competing in the Nations League. The pots were then divided into seven groups of five teams and three groups of six teams.

Each team will play each other twice, once home and once away. After all matches have been played, the top two teams of each group will qualify for the main tournament. This means that, through this route, 20 teams qualify out of a possible 23 places.

The final three places are reserved for the best 12 teams left in the Nations League according to their final standings. These include the winners of the groups in Leagues A, B, and C, unless they have qualified via the regular route. The teams will face each other in three knockout tournaments, with one team from each league qualifying and completing the amount of contestants required for the Euros.

Group Stage

Once all the teams have been confirmed and the dust has settled, the real fun can begin. The teams will be divided into six groups of four, each playing once against each other. When all the matches are over, the top two leaders of each group automatically advance to the round of 16.

Only 12 teams can take up the top two spots of each group. Therefore, the remaining four places will be awarded to the best four ‘third-placed’ teams in the group stage.

Knockout Rounds

The competition follows the regular knockout progression, starting with a round of 16. Each team here will play one leg of 90 minutes unless there is a draw, in which case extra time will be played followed by penalties if needed. Winners will advance to the next round until the final, at which point the winner will be crowned champions of Europe.

The champions become eligible to play in the Finalissima, a super-cup style tournament played against the winners of the most recent Copa América.

With the strongest clubs in the strongest leagues all being from Europe, it's no surprise that European national teams tend to dominate internationally. In fact, 11 out of the last 16 teams in the World Cup semi-finals since 2010 have been European.

It comes as no surprise, then, that the European Championships can be quite unpredictable and hotly contested. Although it's early days, we’ll go through all the teams tipped for greatness at the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament.

Euro 2024 Betting Predictions – Winner

Germany

Die Mannschaft have been placed as one of the bookies’ favourites, with many good reasons for this to be the case. Historically, they have always had a good record in the competition, finishing in the top three on nine occasions – so it wouldn’t be surprising for them to repeat this success in 2024.Moreover, they’re the hosts, and while this may not have much to do with the quality of the side, a home crowd can be massively influential in this type of competition, even able to sway referee decisions in their favour. On a slightly more negative note, though, their previous competitions since their World Cup win in 2014 have not really gone to plan with many underwhelming performances – in fact, they haven’t even advanced from the group stage since then. However, they are finally transitioning to a more youthful, stronger squad, which could be just what they need. With players such as Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, Germany really could go all the way in their own back yard.

England

Another tournament, and another chance for silverware for the Three Lions. Yet again they are amongst the favourites to win the entire thing. After just falling short at the final hurdle last time out, losing on penalties to Italy, England will be hoping to go one better this time around. The current team has the potential to be one of England’s strongest ever, with the likes of Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Trent Alexander Arnold, and Jude Bellingham all hitting their peaks by the time the Euro 2024 rolls around.Despite calls for a new manager after England lost against France in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals, the FA have decided to stick to manager Gareth Southgate in hopes that he will replicate the magic of 2021.If you are thinking of betting on England, we could not think of a better time to do it, with another golden opportunity for the Lions to pounce on.

France

Having made it to two consecutive World Cup finals and emerging as the winner in 2018, France are a powerhouse of the international game. After coming second in the 2022 World Cup, Les Blues will now be looking to win their third European Crown.Their European record is somewhat mixed, though, with their last successful championship in 2000. More recently, France were losing finalists in 2016 and crashed out of the round of 16 to Switzerland in 2021. Nevertheless, the 2024 Euros will be one to watch for the French, who seemingly have an endless squad list of talents and one of the best footballers in the world, Kylian Mbappé.It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see France back in the final once again, and with arguably a better squad – France could have won it all in 2022 if N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema, and Paul Pogba hadn't been forced to sit out due to injury. So, while there’s still a lot of time left, there can be no doubt that they have what it takes to claim a third title.

Spain

The closest team to the three joint favourites of the tournament is Spain. After enjoying great success in world football in the early 2010s, the Spanish have been struggling through an arguably transitional phase, with experienced players being too old and young talents being way too green. However, the younger players are gaining the experience they need, and will be approaching their peak at Euro 2024. Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Gavi, and Pedri will all be in their early-to-mid twenties by then, giving them a great opportunity to reach the latter stages of the knockout rounds.Their World Cup record tells a similar story, with Spain underachieving. The next few upcoming tournaments could be their chance to exploit another golden generation of talent, though, – it is up to the coach and the squad to make the most of it.

Euro 2024 Betting Predictions – Value Picks

Italy

Possibly the most inconsistent national team in Europe, Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup only to go on and win the Euros within a few short years. To add to this confusion, they then failed again to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, losing to North Macedonia in the dying minutes of their decider. While it may be hard to predict, Italy always produces on the biggest of occasions, and while we don’t think they’ll manage to defend their title, we’re certain that they’ll give a good account of themselves.

Portugal

This could be Cristiano Ronaldo’s last international tournament. That’s if he’s even called up, though, with the mega star having lost favour after having a forgettable World Cup.The Portuguese squad is still full of talent, however, with players looking to move out from Ronaldo’s shadow. With the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix, and many more at their disposal, Portugal really could turn out to be great dark horses.

With pandemic-related restrictions having greatly dwindled, the 2024 Euros shouldn’t be experiencing any delays or changes, and will be going back to the usual format of having a single host for the tournament. The latter will be taking place in Germany this time around – a perfect host nation for a number of reasons:

  • Germany forms part of central Europe, making it easy to travel to for many already living on the continent.
  • There are already many UEFA-approved stadiums across the country.
  • The Germans are no strangers to hosting international tournaments, including the 2006 World Cup.
  • Germany has one of the best transport systems in Europe, great for travellers eager to explore the country in between matches or after the tournament is over.
  • Tourists and football fans will find a very welcoming nation as well as a modern, vibrant culture to enjoy.

When Will Euro 2024 Take Place?

The 17th edition of the tournament will take place in the summer months of 2024. To be precise, the tournament will start on 14th June and end with the final on the 14th of July.

Where Will Euro 2024 Matches Be Held?

Narrowing down the hosting stadiums was no easy task; Germany have settled on 10 different stadia to accommodate the 51 matches to be played.

A big tournament like this always provides so much in the way of betting opportunities. Here are our top Euro 2024 betting tips to help you make the most of your wagers.

1) Betting on Mismatched Games

While we think it is important not to count any teams out here, there’s no point in denying the fact that the Euros will feature a wide range of abilities. This doesn’t mean that any game is a sure-fire victory – nothing exists in such a tournament – but the likelihood of certain teams winning is different from one to the other. This is actually part of the reason these kinds of tournaments are so exciting, because they provide you with different dynamics to keep things fresh and exciting.

However, heavily underdog teams potentially competing in a number of matches is a factor worth considering. The first thing is to be realistic. If a team has poor odds, it’s usually with some justification. So, it’s important not to put too much emphasis, or your stake, on upset victories. That doesn’t mean that you should avoid them completely, but it’s usually wiser to spread out your risk with some lower-risk bets as well. Of course, betting markets are another great way to even things out, but we’ll discuss this in the following section.

2) Take Advantage of Euro 2024 Betting Accumulators

Speaking of spreading out risk when placing bets with high odds, there’s perhaps no better usage of the much-loved accumulator bet than on a tournament just like this. Not only is it the perfect setting for such a series of bets because you can make them in a logical succession, but it also provides you with threads to keep the tournament interesting throughout its whole duration.

Accumulator bets can, for instance, keep you interested in a tournament after your personal favourite has crashed out. Betting is all about making sports more interesting to watch, and this is a perfect example. It also has another potential benefit…

3) Look for Euro 2024 Betting Offers

Due to the fact that the UEFA European Championship is such a massive event, plenty of bookmakers want to capture your attention by providing exclusive promotions for this particular tournament. They could be accumulator-related, bet boosts, Euro 2024 sign-up offers, free bets, and all sorts of other goodies that you can look out for to get an extra boost to your bankroll.

The specifics of these, of course, depend on the bookmaker. Always keep a lookout for the best deals, and make sure you check out the terms and conditions in detail to analyse their true value.

4) Be Realistic About Your Betting Knowledge Base

One of the potential pitfalls of such a large tournament is that it is hard to really be able to have enough of an understanding of all the teams to make informed bets. The solution to this is twofold: you can either stick to the teams that you know, or you can do some extra research to better understand the dynamics of other squads in order to make smarter decisions. Regardless of how you choose to go forward, remember that a bet with a solid foundation of knowledge behind it is better than a shot in the dark.

5) Check Out the Many Euro 2024 Betting Markets

We’re lucky enough to have a betting industry which is now more versatile than ever, and this variety really finds its apex in tournaments like this. You're bound to find an absolutely huge amount of betting markets for pretty much every game in the UEFA European Championship, meaning that there’s more than simple Euro 2024 predictions to consider.

Even if the betting market you want isn’t available for whatever reason, you can usually bet on exactly what you like through many bookmakers by using their Bet Builder feature, allowing you to create precisely the type of wager you want. Some markets are simply better than others for certain games and indeed these types of tournaments in general, so dive right in and see what captures your attention the most.

6) Watch Matches Live for In-Play Bets

It is always easier to make Euro 2024 predictions when you are actually watching a match. Livestreaming can come in handy here, and will help you better understand how both teams are performing, allowing you to duly place a live bet more effectively.

In-play betting has also become massively popular thanks to the instant updates from top online bookies. Finding value in betting is much easier when placing bets during a game, especially when noting events which aren’t quantified, such as a referee cautioning a player before being given a yellow card.

bet365, Ladbrokes, and Unibet are among the best football betting sites and for livestreaming matches.

The qualifiers for Euro 2024 are just round the corner, with some great fixtures featuring in each group. Below is all you need to know about the qualification groups and match schedules.

Qualification Groups

At this stage there are a total of 10 groups, seven of which include five teams and three with six. The top two of each group will qualify for the main tournament.

Statistically speaking, England have the hardest group of the lot. Amazingly, four out of the five teams in the qualifying group all took part in the last Euro 2021 too. This is an incredible coincidence, one which is unlikely to be repeated anytime soon. You’ve got to feel bad for Malta here!

Unsurprisingly, the Euro 2024 is set to be brimming with exciting betting markets.

While the below is merely a shortlist, we certainly don’t mean to imply that other options aren’t worth your time. However, there are some which stand out to us as being especially well-suited for the UEFA European Championship. Consider this a jumping-off point, and feel free to check out and explore any other Euro 2024 betting markets that appeal to you.

Tournament Winner Euro 2024 Betting

As far as Euro 2024 betting markets go, they don’t get much more exciting than this. Backing a tournament winner gives you even more reasons to keep watching, even if your favourite team gets knocked out. Some people back multiple sides for this very reason.

Do note that you don’t necessarily have to make your outright Euro 2024 predictions before the tournament gets underway. Of course, odds will fluctuate depending on results and how teams play, but you’ll still be able to back a team during the course of the competition.

Group Winners

Another great option for Euro 2024 betting. We suppose this is actually six betting markets instead of one, but we’ve decided to lump them together here. Betting on the winners of each group is a really great way of getting yourself invested early in the competition as a whole, as opposed to where your favourite teams lie. Other variations of this market include which teams will qualify, and which team will finish bottom.

You can, of course, stick to a group or two, but splitting your Euro 2024 bet across each group is a great accumulator and really helps bring this event to life by creating intrigue across every corner. Remember as well that these betting markets are also available via the finest mobile betting apps. Ultimately, betting is all about getting as much enjoyment out of an event as you can, and these betting markets are all about exactly that.

Double Chance Euro 2024 Betting

As we’ve discussed, one of the things which makes Euro 2024 betting so interesting is the wide variety of teams and their abilities. However, it can also mean that if you want to back an underdog team, you may feel like you’re throwing your money away if their chances are especially bad. This is where the Double Chance market is particularly handy.

That’s because you can bet not only on the possibility of the win, but also on a draw, winning either way. This makes a return in double chance Euro 2024 betting predictions much more likely, especially in the case of underdog sides.

Also consider the Draw No Bet market, which also covers multiple outcomes – albeit in a different way. With Draw No Bet, you’re given reduced odds for a specific team to win, but your stake is refunded if the match ends in a draw. This can be useful if your Euro 2024 betting predictions include backing a team to triumph, but fear a draw might be on the cards.

Asian Handicap Market

This has a similar effect to Double Chance, but approaches it from a different angle. With an Asian Handicap, you can bet on a heavy favourite, but only if they pass a goal handicap based on their perceived advantage. This means that games which seem close to being done deals can be a lot more interesting, even providing a way to maintain interest where one team is clearly winning the match.

You can also go the other route and have a positive handicap on a lesser team, meaning they have to lose by over a certain amount of goals for you to lose the bet. Either way, both these options provide a ton of scope with regards to hitting that risk/reward sweet spot.

Top Goalscorer

The betting options don’t just stop at individual games; you can make predictions across the entire tournament. Top Goalscorer is one such example, which not only provides you with an extra reason to get excited for every goal your chosen pick scores, but also keeps you invested in other games in the tournament beyond wins and losses.

In this market, we always recommend you wager on a player that plays for a team that’s likely to last until the deeper rounds, since this will mean they’ll have more time to increase their goal tally. For example, while you might rightfully believe Cristiano Ronaldo is the best goal scorer in the tournament, ask yourself: do you see Portugal in the latter stages? This should play an important role in your thinking process.

Goals Over/Under

For Euro 2024 betting on Over/Under Goals, we recommend you consider two things about both teams involved – firstly, their style of play. Do they try to play on the front foot, or are they happy to absorb pressure and try hit on the counter? These are nuances you’ll be best able to pick up on by watching and analysing matches. Of course, the more openly teams play, the more likely it is to be a goal fest.

Secondly, consider what’s at stake for both teams. A team may set up differently in the opening game of a group stage, where a draw is perfectly acceptable in comparison to a decider, during which only a win will suffice. As they say, context is key, and that should be part of your thinking when making predictions involving a goals over/under bet.

The previous competition, Euro 2021 was the highest-scoring European Championship to date with 142 goals scored, an average of 2.78 goals per game. Italy and Spain both scored a total of 13 goals, while England only conceded two throughout the entire tournament.

Special Euro 2024 Betting Markets

As the name suggests, special bets are unique types of bets, and come in all shapes and forms. As the tournament draws nearer, bets on which players will start the first game of the competition are popular.

Another market is Player of the Tournament, which is voted by a pool of UEFA’s technical observers. Gianluigi Donnarumma was awarded this prize in 2021.

Other fun Euro 2024 betting markets include wagering on which player will receive the highest number of yellow cards, the Goal of the Tournament, and the Young Player of the Tournament.

Founded in 1958, the European Championship is contested every four years by the members of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to determine the football champion of Europe. The tournament was initially named the European Nation’s Cup before being rebranded to its current name in 1968.

The first edition of the UEFA European Championship took place in 1960. The tournament consisted of just four countries, three of which are now non-existent. These were the hosts France, inaugural champions the Soviet Union, losing finalists Yugoslavia, and third-placed Czechoslovakia.

The tournament kept the same four-team, straight-knockout format for five editions until 1980, when the tournament was expanded to eight teams. This change also brought along a group stage, with two groups of four teams each. In 1996, the competition doubled in size, increasing to 16 teams with four groups of four. The Euro 2016 was the first edition of the UEFA European Championship with 24 teams.

Germany and Spain are the most successful countries in the competition’s history, with three titles each. In all, 15 editions of the tournament have taken place, with 10 separate nations being crowned champion. Only Germany, Spain, France and Italy have won the tournament multiple times (France and Italy have won it twice).

The Euro Cup is a chance for players to announce their quality to an international audience. Below, we’ll look at the best players from the elite national teams who have the potential to emerge as standout players at Euro 2024. Keep the following names in mind while placing your Euro 2024 bets:

England

The Three Lions have an almost uniquely skilled and youthful squad. With such a large talent pool, choosing who could be key in their Euro hopes may be a difficult task. Here are the players that are likely to get everyone talking during Euro 2024.

Bukayo Saka

England’s standout player of the 2022 World Cup, Saka has been on fire lately. In great form for his beloved Arsenal, Bukayo kept that form up in the World Cup, scoring three goals. We’re certain he’ll continue to shine for club and country barring any unexpected injury.

Jude Bellingham

England’s new hot prospect, Bellingham is still only 19 years old – yet he started every World Cup match, scoring and assisting once each. He’s been constantly improving and will be a more mature and experienced player by the time the Euro 2024 tournament comes around.

Phil Foden

Foden is brilliant, and possibly one of Britain’s best players, but starting him would mean that Southgate would have to change from his preferred formation. He offers so much on the pitch that many believe a change is necessary, however. Afterall, he scored and made two assists in his three starts during the World Cup.

France

The back-to-back World Cup finalists have some of the best talent in the world, coupled with arguably the best squad depth as well. It’s no surprise that France are favourites in the tournament and have some brilliant individual players.

Kylian Mbappé

It is hard to believe that Mbappé is still only 24 years old. He’s already lit up two World Cups, winning the 2022 Golden Boot, 2022 Silver Ball, and the 2018 Young Player of the Tournament. However, he is yet to carry this form in the Euros, missing the fifth penalty in France’s round of 16 match against Switzerland. This could be his chance to secure another winners medal to add to his growing list.

Aurélien Tchouameni

Two years younger than Mbappé, and already playing for Real Madrid, Tchouameni will surely be one to watch for the upcoming European Championship. Played mostly in a holding role in France’s midfield, Aurélien started every World Cup match. Injuries to both N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba meant that he was handed a lucky opportunity, one which he took on and made the most of. He’s a great option for Deschamps to have.

Germany

Germany have disappointed in the last few international competitions – this is their time to get back to their best with a competition on home soil. Their overall squad is on the older side, but they still have some great young talents in their ranks.

Jamal Musiala

Chief amongst them is Musiala, Germany’s standout player during the World Cup. He’s also tearing up the Bundesliga with the most goal contributions so far this season. This tournament could really be a chance for Musiala to show the world his talents.

David Raum

One of the least-known names in this batch, Raum applies his trade in Germany with RB Leipzig, playing mainly as left back. Starting every game in Germany’s defence, Raum has been a bright spot in an otherwise grey German back line and will hope form part of a team that could go on and do something special this Euros.

Spain

It is near impossible to pick the stand out players for Spain. Still in a transitioning period, La Furia Roja have some excellent young talent and many old heads, but lack a bridge between the two.

Spain have four great prospects, all playing for Barcelona. Still too young to be leading the team, Spain will be a nation to watch in upcoming tournaments as these players mature. Pedri, Gavi, Ansu Fati, and Ferran Torres all deserve a mention, and could be the ones to carry the team to a fourth European Championship title.

Rest of Europe

Erling Haaland – Norway

Possibly the best poacher in world football right now, Haaland was born exactly one month after the last time (and only time) Norway competed in the Euros. He’ll be hoping to drag his team into the competition and out of the group stage, cementing his name in Norwegian legend. Haaland needs no further introduction as a player who’s taken the Premier League by storm this season.

Cody Gakpo – Netherlands

Gakpo is a massive asset to an exciting Dutch side, who’ll be hoping to progress deep in the Euros. One of only a few players to score in every World Cup group game, Gakpo is on fire for PSV too, and will be hoping to make a strong mark in Europe. He has just signed for Liverpool this January, so more eyes than ever will be on him now.

Joško- Gvardiol – Croatia

Our first defender on the list, Gvardiol proved himself to be a brick wall in a Croatian defence that reached the World Cup semi-final. The RB Leipzig player was unlucky to miss out on the Young Player of the Tournament award, and will hope to push an aging Croatian ‘golden generation’ side to glory.
