What is the Celebrity Traitors?
After the success of the British reality TV series The Traitors, the BBC announced in August 2024 that two more series had been commissioned along with a celebrity series. The inaugural series of Celebrity Traitors will be broadcast in Autumn 2025, starting on October 8.
Traitors was first broadcasted in the UK in late 2022. It was based on the Dutch series De Verraders. The show is based in a castle located in the Scottish Highlands and, even though over 20 contestants usually begin the show, the Celebrity Traitors series will feature 19.
Since the beginning, Traitors has been hosted by Claudia Winkleman. This will also be the case for Celebrity Traitors.
How Does Celebrity Traitors Work?
The celebrities taking part in the series will arrive at the Traitors Castle. On that first day, the host will pick three contestants to be called “Traitors”. The remainder are known as faithful. While the television audience can see the identity of the traitors, the faithful do not know.
At the end of each day, the participants meet and discuss who they think are Traitors. The then vote and the person with the most votes will reveal their identity and be banished. Usually, the Traitors will meet up and agree to “murder” one of the Faithful, who will leave the game immediately. The remaining Faithful only find out who has been “murdered” the next morning.
During the day, the group take part in missions to build cash for the prize fund. This will end up going to a chosen charity in Celebrity Traitors. Contestants can win shields during challenges, which give them protection against being “murdered”.
If the Traitors lose a player and become only two, they are given the chance to try to persuade a Faithful to join them instead of being “murdered”.
After the final meeting around the table, there are usually only four players left. They have a vote, which could settle things, and then they reveal their identities. If they are all Faithful, the prize fund is split. If, however, one or more are Traitors, the prize fund goes to them.
Who Are the Favourite Celebrities to Win the Traitors?
There are several of the Celebrity Traitors UK cast who are emerging as the favourites as we approach the series. We look at who is favourite to win Traitors along with the other main contenders.
Comedian Alan Carr’s humour, social skills and sharp mind could well be the perfect ingredients to be a success on this show. Big personalities can work for or against individuals, but we back Carr to use his judgement well.
We think that actor, writer and presenter Stephen Fry is a strong contender. Fry’s wit and intellect will stand him in good stead, and you can easily see the Blackadder icon influencing and, if necessary, manipulating those around him. However, if Fry is a Faithful and the Traitors are switched on, they might seek to eliminate him as quickly as possible to prevent him being a real thorn in the side.
Cat Burns looks as though she will be one of the best prepared contestants. She has confessed to being a huge Traitors fan and regularly posts on social media during the series. She will now have a chance to be in the thick of the action. We think that she is a strong contender. She understands how the show works and could well be able to turn this to her advantage.
Kate Garraway has experience of relative success within reality TV. In 2019, she was fourth in the 2019 edition of I’m a Celebrity. Prior to that, she finished eighth in Strictly Come Dancing in 2007. The broadcaster’s background as a journalist may have given her some skills that she can apply to this situation. A contender that cannot be ruled out.
Former international rugby star Joe Marler’s competitive nature could prove an asset. Another one who could be suited to the environment of the Traitors Castle.
