World Cup 2026 Overview
France head into the 2026 World Cup as favourites, looking to avenge their 2022 defeat to Argentina. Not too far away in the betting is Spain, with good old blighty not too far behind, getting our hopes up, only to once again be dashed at some point, no doubt.
There are quite a few firsts this year, with 48 teams taking part in a new-look format. This has opened the doors to the likes of Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan and Uzbekistan, all making their World Cup debuts.
Competition Format
Of the 48 teams, there are 12 groups of four nations each. The top two go through to the round of 32, plus the eight best third-placed teams. From there, it’s a straight knockout with the last 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. In total, there will be 104 matches, played across the USA, Canada and Mexico, all available to bet on with the best online bookies.

World Cup 2026 Latest Betting Tips
One of the best ways to find value is to bet early. Our World Cup betting tips have been brewing for weeks now, and we’ve tracked markets over this time to see where the bookies have got it wrong. You can get the latest from our World Cup betting previews, but generally, the earlier you can get in before the tournament starts, the better the odds.
Here are a few more nuggets to sink your teeth into:
-
Be wary of reputation – A lot of countries will be priced on reputation alone. England are a great example of a nation that, who on paper, looks strong but has very little to back up the fact that they are one of the favourites this year.
-
Look beyond the rankings – FIFA world rankings are renowned for being skewed. A good example would be Morocco, who are ranked 7th, when realistically they’re there because the quality of opposition in CAF is generally low.
-
Travel and conditions – It’s going to be hot in the USA and Mexico, and conditions for teams that aren’t used to the heat (UEFA nations) could struggle, especially as the tournament goes on.
World Cup 2026 Predictions
Kickform are running with Spain to be their pre-tournament World Cup betting prediction for 2026. They’ve come in with a 19.9% chance of winning, with France in second on 12.2% and Argentina in third on 10%.
Two more nuggets for your picks this year are Kylian Mbappe as the top scorer and Michael Olise to get the most assists. It’s not by chance that these two are both playing for France, so they will need to go well for both picks to land.
Group Stage Predictions
Our World Cup group betting guide went live a few weeks ago, and Jonathan had four picks from it that stood out, making a huge 39/1 acca.
First up was South Korea to win Group A. It’s a tough group, but these often yield the most value, and the South Koreans are by far the most experienced team here, entering their 11th consecutive World Cup finals.
Next up is Switzerland to win Group B. This is a group they should cruise to be honest, and priced around 7/10 looks big. Group D has Turkey at the top of the tree as they look to topple the hopes of a host nation in the USA.
Finally, a cheeky forecast in Group H with tournament favourites Spain to win and Uruguay to finish second.
Knockout Stage Predictions
Let’s face it, the majority of teams are getting to the knockout stage. Of the 48 that start, only 16 will depart, and 8 of the 12 groups will have 3 teams advance.
From a betting point of view, it means it’s hard to find value in nations simply progressing. But once there, a good trick is to see how hard teams have been pushed in the group stage.
Have teams been able to rotate? Are the star players in form? Have they had a lot of travel and/or rest between games? These are all relevant questions that you need to factor into your World Cup 2026 betting predictions.
World Cup 2026 Finals Predictions
Interestingly, if the two tournament favourites in France and Spain win all their games, which they should, they will meet in the semi-final. So, it’s then a case of picking which you’d rather and given that the winner will probably come from that game, we’d lean more towards a France win than a Spain win.
If you’ve come here looking to see how England might fare and whether they can sneak an easy route, we’re afraid to say it doesn’t look great. Assuming all results go to plan, they’d face Mexico in the Round of 16, Brazil in the quarter-final, Argentina in the semi-final and Spain in the final. If 60 years of hurt are going to end, they’re going to have to do it the hard way. From a betting perspective, unless their World Cup odds significantly drift, maybe one to avoid. Again.

World Cup 2026 Top Scorer Prediction & Favourites
We realise that picking Kylian Mbappe to be the top scorer as part of our World Cup betting tips isn’t exactly groundbreaking. We will grant you that. But he’s got a great chance this year and could become the highest scorer ever if he gets four or more… which he very well could.
You can still get World Cup top goalscorer odds of around 11/2, and for us, that looks like value. If England go on a run, then Harry Kane at 13/2 is a no-brainer, and the pair of them are well clear of the rest of the field.
An interesting pick would be Spain’s Lamine Yamal. They’ve got some friendly games coming up and should go deep, so 25/1 with bet365, is a great outside pick.

How We Make Our World Cup Predictions
We base many of our World Cup 2026 betting tips on the data Kickform provides. It’s a complex algorithm that’s used, which considers hundreds of data points and essentially creates the most plausible scorelines. It then uses those, along with other betting markets from World Cup betting sites, to compare odds and find value.
The beauty of Kickform is that you can use it as gospel or a guide. There’s a human element to it that it doesn't account for, and we adjust our picks accordingly. It might be fatigue or player form, but not necessarily something that can be quantified through data.
Tips & Predictions for Other Competitions
You’ll find that Kickform is very World Cup heavy right now, and that’s because there’s not a lot else in the world of football that is happening. And rightly so.
However, once the dust settles in North America this summer, the servers will fire up once again, giving you daily football betting tips on the Premier League, Championship, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, and even as niche as the Polish league cup, if that’s more your thing.
It’s one of the biggest football betting prediction models online, and the best part? It’s totally free to use.

Millions of simulations are used. The algorithm takes thousands of data points and then runs them constantly to find the most plausible outcome. They’re then rated and ranked as percentages to make them easier to track.
