Editing a bet involves making changes to your selections after your bet has been placed and before it has been settled. Different bookmakers offer different options when it comes to altering your bet, but typical features include adding, removing, or swapping bet selections. Whilst some betting sites only allow you make changes to your bet before the match starts, others let you amend your bet right up until the final whistle. Similarly, some bookmakers let you make edits to single bets only whilst others let you edit multiple bets too. In this way if you have one selection that you weary about, you can remove it and settle the rest of your bet as a win.

Bookmakers also offer various best betting promotions for those who choose to use the editing feature on their platform.

Editing a bet goes hand in hand with cashing out. When you choose to edit a bet, you are cashing out your current bet, and your winnings (which can vary based on how your initial selections were doing) are then re-wagered on your new selections.

This applies to adding or swapping out selections. When removing a selection, the odds of the selection that is removed are simply deducted from your initial potential winnings. In theory, this process can be done manually by cashing out and then placing new bets – but this would be more time-consuming. When betting in-play, odds are constantly changing and every second counts.

In a nutshell, editing a bet is essentially changing one bet into another, with any winnings made expected to be paid for in cash by the bookmaker – just like any other wagered bet. You can find more specific points about different bookmakers below.

We’ve a compiled a list of the some of the top bookmakers which offer players the opportunity to make changes to their bets. Here you can see the different options allowed by the different bookmakers and see which appeals the most to you.

bet365 – Edit Bet

Bet365 has always been at the forefront of innovation so it’s no surprise to see them featured on yet another ‘top bookmakers’ list. The bet365 Edit Bet feature was launched back in 2017 and allows you to add, swap, and remove selections in yours bets. This can be done during both pre-match and in-play games – whenever a cash-out option is available.

With Bet365, you can make changes both to your singles bet (swapping them out for others) and to your acca selections. Once you activate the edit bet function, your new bet slip will be valued using the initial bet’s cash out price and will reflect the live market odds. You can also edit your bets on the go by using the Bet365 mobile app. To use the feature, simply go to the ‘My Bets’ of your account, navigate to the cash out tab, select ‘edit bet’ at the top of your bet slip, and then proceed to add, swap, or remove your desired selections.

Ladbrokes – Edit My Acca

Ladbrokes’ Edit My Acca is the original bet edit tool and was said to be a total game changer when first announced. With this feature, you can remove any selections from your accumulator both before a match begins as well as during in-play – perfect if you’re noticing that one team might be about to ruin your whole acca. Once you use the Edit My Acca at Ladbrokes, your bet will be revised to reflect your updated bet slip and whilst this may be less than your original potential winnings, you will have a better overall chance of coming out on top!

Bwin – Edit My Bet

Bwin’s Edit My Bet allows you to make changes to your bets both pre-match and in-play and is available to use on selected events, markets and fixtures. Like other edit features, with when using Bwin’s Edit My Bet, your initial bet will first be subject to a cash out before the new and edited bet will be placed. The tool is therefore only available on matches where the cash out option is available. To make changes to your bets or keep track of your already altered bets, simply navigate to the “my bets” section of your account.

VBet – Edit Bet

You can use VBet’s Edit Bet feature to add, remove, or swap selections in your betting slip. This applies to matches where Cash Out is available for unsettled bets and can be used for both single and multiple bets. With this tool you can therefore remove a selection and convert a multiple bet into a single or add a selection and convert a single bet into a multiple bet.

Although VBet’s edit bet feature can be used in-play, it is important to note that at least one selection in the bet that you wish to change must not have yet taken place at the time of editing. You can use this tool on bet slips which include finished events as well as those which have not yet begun. To make use of VBet’s edit feature, navigate to top of your bet slip and click ‘edit bet.’ To add a selection all you have to do is click ‘add event’ and choose your event whilst removing a selection simply involves clicking the X on the right of the event that you wish to remove.

NetBet – Add2Bet

As the name implies, at NetBet you can add new selections to any of your existing open bets which qualify for the cash out option. Your new stake will be equal to the amount that you cashed out, and your new selection/s as well as the original ones will be placed according to the current odds at the time. Netbet allows you to add selections both to single bets as well as multiple bets (excluding system bets) and in the case of one or more selections having already been settled, these selections will not be included in the newly modified bet. Open bets can be accessed via the ‘my bets’ section of your account.

Everything Comes at a Cost

Every bet you place has the bookmakers margin built into it – which is pretty understandable since naturally they have to make a profit. But remember that when you are editing a bet and therefore making two different bets, you will be paying the bookmakers’ margins twice. It is important to identify whether it is actually worth it to edit a bet. You should look at the cost of losing your current bet versus what you stand to win with your new bet that is placed using the cash out amount. Only you can decide if it worth it so try to assess the risk accordingly.

Be Cautious When Using Promotions

Most welcome bonuses or free bet promotions offered by bookmakers do not apply when cashing out a bet. Since editing a bet is a form of cashing out, there is a very high chance that altering your bet when using a promotion will result in that promotion becoming invalid. It is very important to always read the terms and conditions of each promotions to know exactly when, where, and how these offers can be used. As a general rule however, we would encourage you to avoid using edit bet features together with bookie promotions.

Adding and Swapping Selections

Many punters use edit bet features simply to remove some selections in-play which are not performing as hoped. This is a way of offloading the ‘dead wood’ selections which could otherwise take the whole betting slip down with them. If you have a bet slip that is performing well, adding or swapping selections can be a great way of increasing on your potential winnings. Let’s say you’ve placed a treble on three football matches taking place simultaneously. By half time all your selections are winning comfortably, which could be the perfect time to consider adding an extra selection which could potentially double your winnings!

Alternatively, say that you’ve bet on Tottenham to win at home. They’re up 1-0 in the 70th minute but their defence is looking shakier and shakier with each minute. At the same time, you notice that Manchester City are also 1-0 in a separate match and seem to be bossing the game. This would be a great opportunity to swap your selections – yes, this will come at a slight cost but now you will have much more confidence that your bet will see out the rest of the match.

Edit Bet features are a game changer – literally! Having the opportunity to the make alterations to a betting slip based on how your different selections are performing live is a luxury which as yet, so few bookmakers seem to provide. We would love to see more betting sites jumping on this bandwagon so that more people can take advantage of this tool. Until then however, you can rest assured that you will be in the safe hands with the highly reliable and reputable bookies that we listed in this article.
