Nico Williams’ next club odds have been slashed on the news that a move to Barcelona is back on the cards.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday morning that a move to the Nou Camp had been reignited after initial claims that Barca had pulled out of a deal for the much-fancied 22-year-old.

The Spaniard has worked through the ranks at Athletic Bilbao, initially signing a pre-contract agreement in 2013, before integrating into the youth setup in 2018.

A return of 11 goals and seven assists in 2024/25 has caught the imperious eyes of Europe’s elite, and with a £48.8 million release clause, is a plausible option for the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea.

Williams’ preference to a move to Barcelona has seen the La Liga giants rekindle a seemingly extinguished flame in May, as the club stated they were no longer actively considering a move due to financial restrictions.

Odds of 2/5 to join Barcelona have shortened faster than Arsenal’s title hopes as the bookies suggest that a move away from his boyhood club looks likely this summer.

Nico Williams to Barcelona: A Nou Chapter Awaits

It’s early stages in what could prove to be a bit of a transfer saga, but all roads suggest that Williams would prefer a move to Barcelona over other European interests.

Adding fuel to the fire has been public support from Barca’s Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde, who have posted images with Williams on social media and liked posts related to the potential transfer.

While odds of 1/3 with bet365 would suggest a deal is close, it remains to be seen just how Barcelona can afford the £48.8 million price tag given their precarious position with FFP and crippling debts.

It may be the case that players need to leave to get the deal done. Ansu Fati, who has just returned after a loan spell at Brighton, and Fermin Lopez have been earmarked as potential asset-builders, which would aid the transfer budget should an agreement be made.

This deal looks the most likely to happen, and with both club and player pushing for the move, odds of 1/3 look like the smart play for Williams’ next club.

Nico Williams to Bayern Munich: From Bilbao to Bavaria

If Barca can’t make a deal happen, then the door is open for a move to Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich.

Williams’ agent has already met with representatives from Bayern on two separate occasions, with the original deal with Barcelona looking to have been put on ice.

Wages won’t be a problem as reports suggest that they have tabled a package above that offered by the Spanish giants.

If he were to leave Bilbao, and it’s still a big “if” at this stage, few clubs in world football would be a better fit. Odds of 14/1 suggest it’s unlikely, but with so many variables around the Barca move, it might not be that far-fetched to see him swap flamenco for lederhosen.
