And Crawford’s resume is seriously intimidating. He’s 41-0 with 19 wins in world title fights, and at 37, he’s still going strong. He won his first fight in Glasgow back in 2014, a shredded 134-pounder at the time. Now, as a super middleweight (between 160 and 168 pounds), he’s almost unrecognisable, and that’s where the doubts start to creep in.
He wasn’t convincing in his 12-round win over Israil Madrimov, and concerns about speed seem legitimate. Canelo’s advantage is simple: he’s been at this weight since 2018, and it’s tough for anyone moving up two divisions to match the strength and quickness of a fighter who’s thrived at that build for years. Bottom line, the Crawford we saw last August didn’t look capable of beating Alvarez, and we don’t think he’s had the chance to gain the experience needed to match such a ferocious opponent.

Crawford, at any rate, will be an incredibly tricky fighter to knock out, and Alvarez is too intelligent to risk getting himself laid out by leaving himself exposed. For starters, we reckon that if either man goes down, it’s lights out, that’s just the power these fighters possess. But we think this one is going the distance, so a full fight without a single knockdown seems the logical outcome. Beyond that, we’re backing this because of the quality of the fighters.
Both are masters of their craft, fully aware of each other’s capabilities. Given that, neither is likely to throw caution to the wind. It’s far too risky to leave yourself exposed against knockout artists of this calibre. We’re expecting a very cagey, drawn-out affair that will be decided on skill and strategy rather than a single, fight-ending punch. In fact, this may be the most likely of the lot. We’d put it at around 80%, so it’s absolutely hammering those 8/13 (61.9%) odds.
