Bet 1: Shakhtar Donetsk to Beat -1 Handicap (13/10)
Even with a the handicap, it’s tough to see Aberdeen making much headway here. You don’t need to run the full gamut of our footie stats hub, although it certainly can’t hurt, to see they’ve had a dreadful start to their Scottish Premiership season. Five losses in six games and a single measly goal in all that time is a sobering thought for any fan of the team.
And while there’s an element of doubt because these two have never played each other, we’ve got to think that the quality of Shakhtar Donetsk, who currently sit at the top of the Ukrainian Premier League having won five of their last seven games, will win out. Plus, with them averaging two goals per game and Aberdeen’s offensive drought, the handicap looks vanishingly small.
Bet 2: KuPS vs KF Drita – Draw (14/5)
One of the fun things about the Conference League is how it throws together teams that you’d almost never see facing off otherwise. Perfect example: Finland’s Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) going up against Kosovo’s KF Drita.
That kind of hesitation often bumps up the chances of a draw. Considering this, and that these two have both drawn in two of their last five games and the likelihood of a stalemate looks close to evens. Definitely higher than the 14/5 price BetVictor’s putting out there.
Bet 3: Sparta Prague vs Shamrock Rovers – Over 2.5 Total Goals (4/6)
Sometimes, spotting value really is just about doing the easy math. For example, whip out our goal calculator and you’ll see Sparta Prague have smashed in 22 goals across 10 games in the Czech First League. On top of that, every one of their last five matches has seen at least three goals.
They’re heavy favourites going into this one (1/5 with BetVictor) on all the best UK bookmakers, and honestly, we’re with them. It seems very likely they’ll control the game, which means we’re likely in for another high-scoring affair against Shamrock Rovers.
And hey, even if Shamrock take the lead, they’ve still gone over 2.5 goals in three of their last five games. This looks like value from every possible angle.
Bet 4: Jean-Philippe Mateta – First Goalscorer (20/21)
If any member of the Eagles squad is a true bird of prey, it’s their resident net-rustler Jean-Philippe Mateta. In fact, two goals from six games for Palace so far this season is actually below his usual average. Last season he scored 14 in 37 and the year before it was 16 in 35. Add it all up and he’s scoring in around 37% of his games. And, as we’ve seen against Villa and Liverpool already this season, he’s often their first weapon of choice.
Add in the fact that Palace does seem the likely winner here, and it just tips things further into Mateta’s favour. We’d say the one-man French firing squad is very likely to be the first to taste the back of the net this Thursday.
