We can hardly believe the money the bookies have left on the table for the opening day of the UEFA Champions League. Four very likely value picks, and a £115.50 back on a tenner, can’t say fairer than that.

UEFA Women’s Champions League Matchday 1 Tips

Bet 1: Alessia Russo to Score Anytime (7/4)

Not sure what the bookies are thinking with this one. Alessia Russo has been an absolute machine for Arsenal since 2023. She’s been involved in four goals across five games this season (two goals, two assists). And that’s below her usual standard. Last year’s Women’s Super League saw 12 goals across 21 games, and the Champions League eight goals over 15 games.

And don’t get us wrong, Lyon are a very fine team, first in Division 1 Féminine by 3 points after four games is stellar form. But those French defences are far from impenetrable. They’ve conceded in four of their last five games, and Arsenal are no drop in quality.

Every piece of math and logic we have tells us that Russo scoring in any given game has a better chance than landing heads on a coin flip. Yet the bookies have these odds priced below evens. Generosity or foolishness? Either way, this is a fantastic way to kick off our acca.

Bet 2: Bayern Munich vs Barcelona – Both Teams to Score (1/1)

Initially, the goal stats would suggest this isn’t very likely at all. Look at the last five matches from Bayern and Barcelona, and you won’t find a single game where both teams scored.

So, why have we backed this one? Because the reason both teams didn’t score is because Barca and Bayern were too bloody good. All those games were won to nil. Now, against each other, they’ve finally got an opponent that can match their firepower, and we think they will be absolutely flying in.

Put it this way, you’d have to go back 39 games, to a 2-0 drubbing by Wolfsburg back in October 2024, for when Bayern last failed to score. For Barcelona it was 11 games ago, their devastating Women’s Champions League Finals defeat to Arsenal back in May. Taking all this into account, we’d say both teams scoring is extremely likely. In fact, we’d go as high as 80%, making this a real belter of a value bet.

Bet 3: Real Madrid vs Roma – Over 2.5 Goals (1/2)

This one’s nowt but a bit of basic maths. Real Madrid scored three or more goals in four of their last five matches, including a 3-0 mauling of Levante Badalona just a few days ago. They’re in top form and have a largely healthy squad. The one outlier, a drab 0-0 draw against CD Tenerife, looks like an anomaly.

Roma are broadly considered the weaker of the two teams, but they’re still consistently bothering the back line. Three of their last five games have passed this goal line, meaning if you’d placed this bet on the last 10 most recent fixtures from both teams, you’d have won seven out of 10 times.

Plus, Roma are one of the higher quality teams Madrid have faced in recent weeks. And when you look at how the Spanish squad fared against Eintracht Frankfurt (2-1), Atlético Madrid (2-1) and Bayern (4-1), it seems like tougher competition only leads to more goals. With that in mind, we’d say this one is very likely, and a perfect low-risk anchor for our acca.

Bet 4: Draw No Bet – Wolfsburg (2/5)

First things first, we think a draw is super unlikely here. It’s rare to see either PSG or Wolfsburg emerge with an inconclusive result, each has only gone to a stalemate one time so far this season.

As for Wolfsburg winning? Well, have you seen them lately? They just tore through the defences of SGS Essen and Buntentor like a torpedo through jelly. Sure, PSG are a tougher team, but it’s hard to imagine the French side not feeling a sense of foreboding when contemplating an 11-0 mauling. More importantly, Wolfsburg are unbeaten in eight games, all of them dominant displays of strength.

They sit confidently atop Frauen-Bundesliga, above even the mighty Bayern. PSG on the other hand, have had a seesaw season that’s put them sixth in Division 1 Féminine. In a nutshell, we consider Wolfsburg to be overwhelming favourites, with the chance of a draw looking vanishingly small.
