Champions League Acca Tips

Bet 1: Akhundzade to Qarabag One Against Chelsea (3/1)

Cracking odds on this one. Why? It all comes down to two simple facts. First things first. While Chelsea are clearly the stronger side heading into this contest, we’d need to Irish up our morning cuppa before backing FK Qarabag, they’ve been conceding goals against all sorts of opposition. Ajax, Sunderland, Wolves, Lincoln City, Brighton, Brentford and Bayern have all found the back of the Blues’ net over the past month. Even so, Chelsea keep on winning, which shows they’re more than happy to take risks and let matches turn into a tit for tat affair.

So, we fancy Qarabag to get one here. They’ve scored in nine of their last ten outings, including against Benfica and Athletic Club. Which brings us nicely to fact number two: if they do get on the scoresheet, it’s most likely Nariman Akhundzade who’ll be the man to do it, having netted in three of their last five matches. Crunch the numbers and you’ll see the bookies are off by around 30%, value by anyone’s measure.

Punt of the Day!

We rate the whole lot, but if you’ve got your heart set on just one, we’d have to give the nod to this juicy little number. We’d have happily taken it at evens. That makes 3/1 odds a proper rare find, and one we’d strongly suggest jumping on before the bookies clock what they’ve done and change their minds.

Bet 2: Expect Goals on Both Sides, When Giants Collide: Man City vs Dortmund (4/7)

There are some big games this Wednesday, but Man City versus Borussia Dortmund remains a true colossus of European football. And with both sides knowing exactly what’s at stake, you can bet they’ll go hell for leather if they know what’s good for them.

To be fair, if you just look at the stats, only two of Man City’s last five games have seen both teams find the net, while Dortmund has managed that in three out of five. But in every case, it was their opponents who failed to score, not the teams themselves. Considering the calibre of competition then, we’d say it’s overwhelmingly likely both sides will get on the scoresheet here. That 62.6% implied probability suddenly looks teeny-tiny to us, truly odds well worth of one of the best bookmakers in the UK.

Bet 3: Bilbao’s Wobbly Line-up Set to Fall to Newcastle’s Steady Hand (1/2)

It can no longer be said that Newcastle are strangers to international success after they made history by winning the Carabao Cup back in March. The motivation and experience are definitely there now – they know they can succeed at this level and will be firing on all cylinders here.

That said, Howe’s merry men have been far from perfect since then. They’ve bounced around so much they’re thinking about getting a timeshare on a trampoline, but they do tend to turn up for the big matches. As seen in their 2-0 win over Tottenham, they’re hungry to taste that kind of success again and it usually shows when it really counts.

Standing in their way are the usual European tournament troublemakers Athletic Bilbao. They’re not at their best right now, stuck in the middle of La Liga and having only won two of their last five games. Frankly, they look a little unsure of how best to utilise their current line-up. The more settled Newcastle side should be able to turn their confidence into a comfortable win here, making them well worth backing even as slight favourites.
