Bet 1: Man City To Win & Both Teams To Score (5/2)
It’s no surprise that Man City are favourites here, especially after Newcastle’s deflating 3–1 loss to Brentford a little under a fortnight ago. It was rough enough that Eddie Howe, the man who delivered The Toon their first domestic trophy in 70 years, is now suddenly a serious contender in the Premier League sack race. Will Man City be too much for them? Based on current form, it looks likely.
But hold up, cowboy, let’s rein things in for a moment. Yes, Newcastle have been dreadful away from home, with that defeat to The Bees only adding to the sting of their 10-match winless streak on the road. But at St James’ Park they’re a different beast entirely, winning three of their last five when playing on familiar turf.
More importantly, look at the goal stats. The last time Newcastle failed to score was 12 games ago against Bournemouth, and across that stretch they’ve bagged 11 goals in 11 matches. Even when they’re off the boil, they still find a way to stick one in. Add in the lift they get at home and BTTS looks overwhelmingly likely, while Man City coming out on top feels almost as certain as a sunrise.
Bet 2: Burnley vs Chelsea: Over 2.5 Goals (4/5)
If you’re heading over to Turf Moor this Saturday, you might want to bring a sturdier brolly; looks like it’s about to absolutely chuck it down with goals. Have a butcher’s at the numbers: five of Chelsea’s last six games have smashed past the 2.5 goals line, and Burnley have done the same in four of their last six. Both sides have been playing on the front foot, with plenty of firepower on show — whether it’s Cole Palmer, João Pedro or Anthony Jaden — but they’ve also shown more than a few defensive cracks, which is why so many of their matches turn into end-to-end scraps.
And don’t go writing off The Clarets just yet. They might be 17th, but they’re snatching goals off top sides like squirrels raiding a picnic basket full of crisps. Man City, Aston Villa, and Man United have all had their defences breached by this claret-and-blue army, and we’d be well surprised if Chelsea got off scot-free. Any way you slice it, three goals look temptingly likely. Even Kickform agrees, tipping the Over market at a 58% probability. All signs are pointing to a right old goal-fest here.
Bet 3: Igor Thiago To Score Anytime (8/5)
Outside of Haaland, no one has scored more goals in the Premier League than Igor Thiago. He’s managed eight across eleven games, which is two more than Antoine Semenyo, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and importantly for this game, Brighton’s Danny Welbeck. Plus, he scored a double against Newcastle in an astonishing comeback fight in their last match.
Back that up with the fact he’s their resident penalty taker and you don’t need our football stats hub to realise that a goal here seems as likely as having another biscuit with your brew. And Betfred, bless ‘em, either they’ve got this one completely upside down or they just decided to give us a treat because they’re one of the best bookies in the UK, have it priced at 8/5. Makes no sense. But backing this market sure does.
