A huge day for our Saturday horse racing tips. The Lincoln Handicap signals the start of the Flat season, with the 30th Dubai World Cup also taking place. Six selections. All business.
Saturday Horse Racing Tips – It’s Anno Domini Time in the Lincoln
Big afternoon incoming. Calandagan and Ombudsman, the top two in the world last year, headline the Dubai World Cup card. Commandment, who delivered for us four weeks ago, runs in the Florida Derby as a Kentucky Derby prep, but our Saturday horse racing tips are targeted elsewhere.
Six selections. Plenty to attack. Prices this week come from Betfred, BetVictor, StarSports, and William Hill, some of the best bookies on the market.

COMMISSIONER KING, 12:20 Meydan – 9/4 with William Hill
The opening race on the Dubai World Cup card is the Godolphin Mile, a Group 2 race on the dirt. The two standout runners, Commissioner King and Mendelssohn Bay, have met before, with the latter narrowly coming out on top.
Things have changed since then, six-year-old Commissioner King having gone to a new level for Dubai World Cup-winning pair Bhupat Seemar and Tadhg O’Shea. He can run right up to a mark of around 118 in these conditions, and that could put this to bed.
LAZZAT, 2:20 Meydan – 2/1 with BetVictor
This is the six-furlong Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint on the turf course, coming when the Dubai World Cup 2026 meeting really begins to heat up. We have another market-leading pair, this time French runner Lazzat, and the American-trained Reef Runner.
This pair also met recently, with Reef Runner coming away just a neck clear over seven furlongs in Saudi Arabia. William Buick’s mount was definitely fitter, but Lazzat was favourite and just needed the run, with far more expected in these conditions.
We fully expect the form to flip. Lazzat, ridden by Buick’s best man James Doyle, is a top-class sprinter, a two-time Group 1 winner, and a rock-solid favourite.
QIRAT, 2:57 Doncaster – 4/1 with StarSports
This may be just a £60,000 Listed race on Lincoln Handicap Day, but the Doncaster Mile is a proven launchpad to Group 1 events such as the Lockinge Stakes and the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.
Volterra is no mug, but this looks all about Docklands, trained by Harry Eustace, and Qirat of the Ralph Beckett team, both Group 1 winners. Docklands received his lofty rating of 118 by winning the Queen Anne, but couldn’t score again in five further attempts last year. He’s solid, but he will struggle to maintain that rating now.
Qirat rather stole the Sussex Stakes under a canny front-running ride at 150/1 last summer, for which he was given 115. Conditions were against him after that, but he remains capable of more over a mile and can improve to or beyond the level expected of Docklands. At 4/1 in this scenario, he deserves to be among our Doncaster tips this Saturday.

CATHEDRAL, 3:13 Kempton – 3/1 with William Hill
We’re jumping over to Kempton, where Survie is all the rage for the Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes. She is three from three on the all-weather, and was third in a Group 1 last time out. The truth is that all three of her wins on synthetic surfaces came at a lower level, while her recent Group 1 place was a distant one in which she ran to a mark of around 105.
Even if she improves a bit from that, can she live with 113-rated Cathedral? Kevin Philippart De Foy’s filly achieved that mark by running fourth in a Grade 1 at the Breeders’ Cup over an inadequate distance, and was also a close fourth in a Group 1 at Leopardstown last September. She could be tough to beat.
ANNO DOMINI, 3:32 Doncaster – 12/1 with StarSports
This is the one many have been waiting for – the Lincoln Handicap. The traditional curtain-raiser for big betting races during the Flat turf season, the Lincoln features 22 runners going over the straight mile.
La Botte (Harry Eustace) has been well backed but will need luck in running, while Eternal Force (William Haggas) is three from three since being gelded and is definitely well handicapped. Still, there is one who is potentially even better treated.
Charlie Appleby has won this race before, and he saddles Anno Domini. All of Appleby’s horses are Group animals or potential Group animals – the only time they end up in handicaps is when there has been a problem, which can then keep their handicap mark low.
Anno Domini was sent to a Group 1 as a juvenile, showing the early talent he had. He reached a mark of 103 as a three-year-old, but spent some time off the track. Returning in this season’s Dubai Carnival, he improved plenty from race one to race two, going off favourite having been expected to run to a mark of around 106.
He’s capable of that now, and gets in here off 100. With William Buick and co. in Dubai, young Toby Moore, brother of Ryan, gets the ride and he claims 7lbs as an apprentice. He’s riding like a pro, so even if we compromise and say a 3lb allowance would be fair for his inexperience, that’s another 4lbs we’ve gained which starts to make Anno Domini look very nicely treated.
More details, including the history of the race and the best bets to place, is available on our Lincoln Handicap page.
MEYDAAN, 4:45 Meydan – 7/1 with Betfred
This is the 30th running of the $12 million Dubai World Cup, and our selection is a tiny bit chancy. Most Dubai World Cup tips will surround odds-on shot Forever Young, a genuinely top-class dirt horse from Japan. He did fail in this event last year though and should be taken on.
The aptly named Meydaan, trained by Simon & Ed Crisford, is the last of our horse racing tips for Saturday. Having gone through the motions as a middle-distance horse on turf in the UK, he was eventually thought good enough to contest the Melbourne Cup last year.
He began this year’s Carnival by winning a stayers’ race on the grass, but suddenly came into his own when tried on the dirt in a prep for this event. He took down a good field in effortless fashion four weeks ago, earning a rating of 114. In truth, if he was pushed, he could have achieved 120 that day and is only getting better.
William Biuck takes the ride, and at around 7/1, he represents great value ahead of Forever Young and Imperial Emperor.
