Bet 1: Over 5.5 Total Cards
Let’s start with the obvious. The Tyne-Wear derby is a breeding ground for bookings, and we are putting our chips on the over 5.5 total cards market.
There were nine bookings when these two teams last met in December, and six when they met in the FA Cup a couple of years ago.
With a tense atmosphere expected at St James’ Park, experienced referee Anthony Taylor has been drafted in to oversee proceedings.
Taylor’s average this season is just under four bookings per match, though considering how intense the Tyne-Wear derby can get, those averages should get a decent little bump.
Bet 2: Enzo Le Fee Over 1.5 Tackles
Sunderland’s Enzo Le Fee certainly doesn’t mind getting stuck in, having made 67 tackles across his 26 appearances this season – an average of 2.5 per game.
Only 11 players in the entire Premier League have made more tackles than Le Fee this season, which leads us to back him in the over 1.5 tackles market.
The midfielder has seen this bet land in four of his previous six outings, and we’re hoping that the intensity of the derby will only drive those numbers up.
Bet 3: Both Teams to Score – Yes
Both teams to score has only landed once in the previous seven Tyne-Wear derbies, but considering most of those fixtures took place over a decade ago, we can't exactly lean on those numbers.
Instead, we’re looking at Newcastle’s recent run at St James’ Park, which has seen BTTS land in six consecutive games.
In fact, 11 of Newcastle’s 15 home Premier League games have seen both teams rattle the net, which is more than any other team in the competition.
We’re backing the goals galore trend to continue, putting our money on BTTS at almost even money.

Bet 4: Anthony Gordon Over 0.5 Shots on Target
Sunday will mark Anthony Gordon’s 175th Premier League appearance, with the 25-year-old looking to score in three straight league games for the first time in his career.
Gordon found the back of the net during recent victories over Manchester United and Chelsea, with both strikes proving vital for the Magpies.
Despite his impressive goal record, we are turning our attention to shots on target, with Gordon testing goalkeepers eight times across his last four starts in the Premier League.
The forward offers a nice little boost to our bet builder at 2/5.
