For those old enough to remember, Senegal marked their World Cup debut in 2002 with a historic 1-0 victory over defending champions France. Twenty-four years later, the two teams are ready for a rendezvous, as they kick off the action in Group I of the 2026 World Cup. To make things even more interesting, I’ve found three tasty bets. Let’s jump in.

Bet 1: Both Teams to Score – Yes
France should score in this game. Les Blues are one of the tournament favourites, and they’ve found the back of the net at least once in their last 13 international outings.
Since November they have put four goals past Ukraine, two past Brazil and three past Colombia, so with that in mind, I’m not concerned about France posting a blank.
The big question mark around this bet is whether Senegal are capable of getting a goal, and a lot of the evidence suggests they can.
The African side average just over two goals per game since November, meaning they know how to rattle the net. What’s more, France have only managed one clean sheet in seven outings.
Bearing everything in mind, I’m backing them to put the ball past Mike Maignan at around the even money mark.
Bet 2: Edouard Mendy Over 3.5 Saves
While I am backing Senegal to be competitive, I’m under no illusions about who will dominate proceedings.
France, with their wealth of attacking talent, are expected to be all over their rivals as they look to make an early statement.
Les Bleus average around five shots on target across their last five matches, which is a decent total considering most of those games were friendlies.
With World Cup points on the line, I’m backing Didier Deschamps and his men to turn on the style and give Senegal’s Edouard Mendy plenty of work.
Mendy to make over 3.5 saves is a bet that’s currently placed at around the 17/20 mark, and I’m chucking straight in my bet builder.

Bet 3: Michael Olise Over 0.5 Shots on Target
Michael Olise is quickly becoming one of the standout performers in world football, and this World Cup offers him the perfect opportunity to underline those claims.
With France expected to dominate, I’m backing the Bayern Munich man to get at least one shot on target.
From February to May, Olise produced at least one shot on target in 16 successive games for Bayern Munich.
I’m backing that trend to continue at the World Cup, with this bet priced at around the 2/5 mark.
