After taking Heart of Midlothian agonisingly close to title glory last season, Derek McInnes has switched Tynecastle for Ibrox and will once again look to prise the Scottish Premiership trophy from Celtic’s grasp. After Hearts’ great start last season, McInnes was the man the Rangers board wanted when they made managerial changes during 2025/26. However, the former Scottish international midfielder chose to see out the season with Hearts. Rangers finally got their man in May and will be aiming to start the new era with a win at Tannadice. I have put together a great 15/4 bet builder which predicts goals and a good start for McInnes.

Full-Time Result: Rangers

I expect Rangers to come away with a win. McInnes will be keen to put down a marker, and he will be boosted by the presence of two of Hearts’ key men from last season, Cammy Devlin and Lawrence Shankland, who followed him to Ibrox. Dundee United had a very average home record last season, and I don’t see them having enough to claim anything from the match. Kickform give the away side a 57% chance of winning, and I am happy to start my bet builder by backing Rangers.

BTTS: Yes

I am expecting goals in this one. It may be a new season, but recent matches between the two sides have been high scoring. Last season both teams found the net in 66% of the Gers’ games and in 55% of Dundee United’s matches. Rangers were the division’s top scorers last season, and their forward line has been boosted by Shankland. Dundee United are decent in front of goal and scored twice in all three meetings with Rangers last season.

Rangers to Score in Both Halves

As I mentioned before, Rangers were last season’s top scorers. They have added Shankland, who in theory, will make them even more potent. Rangers put eight past Dundee United in three matches last season. I expect goals from the away side in each half.

Lawrence Shankland to Have 2+ Shots on Target

Shankland will be keen to get off the mark with his new club in a competitive fixture, having scored in pre-season. Last season, he averaged 1.33 shots on target per game and scored 16 goals in 28 matches. This came from 86 shots overall, and he will be looking to work the goalkeeper a little more. Games between these two sides have been open in recent seasons, and I am backing the Scotland striker to get at least two attempts on target.
