With Erling Haaland around, there’s a discussion to be had about whether the Premier League top goalscorer betting market is wrapped before it’s even started. The Norwegian behemoth has won it in three of the last four seasons, and he’s rightly a short 4/6 favourite for the upcoming 2026/27 campaign as well.
Maybe, just maybe, this is the season when he loses his Gjermundbu, and we see a changing of the guard. Unlikely, I know, but let’s jump into this one to see who I think could cause an upset.

Bet 1: Alexander Isak – Liverpool
Listen, if you’re backing Erling Haaland at 4/6, then godspeed, my friend. He’s the best striker in the league, maybe the world, and he’s a short-priced favourite for a reason. But if, like me, you need a little more meat on the bone when it comes to value, Alexander Isak would be my go-to.
It’s safe to say that life at Liverpool got off to a rocky start for the Premier League’s record transfer. A £135 million sale from Newcastle United preceded spending much of the season in the physio room for Isak. Not an uncommon sight for Newcastle fans, but a broken leg in December 2025 after he’d already missed a lot of the start of the season pretty much wrote off the 2025/26 campaign.

I do, however, think that Isak will come good at Anfield. He’s looked sharp in preseason, and Liverpool have a host of talent to feed him, including the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Victor Munez and one of the most exciting talents in the league, Rio Ngumoha.
That said, for as good as they are going forward, they look light at the back and in the middle of the park. They won’t win the league this season and could struggle for the top four, but they could be one of the most entertaining teams, with Isak spearheading that attack.
He’s 9/1 to be top scorer with the best online bookies and, for me, the best of the rest. It’s worth noting that, in the 2023/24 season, his 23 goals were one more than Haaland. Could history repeat itself? Well, it has a chance, and City look to be in a period of transition, with Pep Guardiola leaving, along with several club stalwarts like Rodri and Bernardo Silva, among others. If teams around them are going to take advantage, now is the time.
Bet 2: Viktor Gyokeres – Arsenal
If you’re looking to go really niche, then Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres would be my next pick.
I’ve not heard many people talk about Gyokeres in the Premier League top goalscorer market, truth be told. There might be a reason for that, but I think there’s some value in his price of 16/1, and here’s why.
First off, this will be the Swede’s second season in the league. He took a bit of time to adjust, but by the time The Angel was belting around the Emirates with North London being painted a deep shade of red, he was really starting to find his feet.
He looked like the player who had dominated Liga Portugal, and in the second half of the 2025/26 season, only Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White (10) scored more than Gyokeres (9).
Second, Mikel Arteta is starting to trust him to lead the line. They chopped and changed for a lot of last season, but the fact that a replacement ‘nine’ has barely been whispered on the socials indicates that the gaffer is more than happy for Gyokeres to continue.
This added trust tends to bring out the best in players. Gyokeres will know what is expected of him. He’s got Premier League reps under his belt, and the pressure that the club were under to get over the line last season has been lifted, which will do him the world of good.
Odds of 16/1 are there for a reason, but Arsenal could dominate this year. Another Invincibles season could be on the cards, too. A bold claim, but those shackles are gone; they can play with freedom, and I expect a very different style to what we suffered through last season, which will help Gyokeres.
