Arsenal travel to Sunderland looking to continue their winning start to the season. The Gunners set the tone in the Community Shield with a 3-0 win over Manchester City before reeling off three Premier League victories ahead of a 1-0 triumph at Napoli in the Champions League. The trip to the Stadium of Light could prove tricky for Mikel Arteta’s side. The Black Cats have recovered from an opening day loss at Ipswich Town to demonstrate that many of their qualities from last season remain. Since the defeat at Portman Road, they have looked solid, difficult to beat and capable of scoring. It promises to be an interesting encounter, and I have a great value 5/1 bet builder for the Saturday night clash.

Martin Odergaard Arsenal
I’m backing Martin Odergaard to score or assist in my 5/1 bet builder.

Under 3.5 Goals

Sunderland do not give much away, especially at home. They are yet to concede at the Stadium of Light in a competitive match this season with 1-0 wins over Fulham in the Premier League and Hull City in the Carabao Cup. They have also been very consistent when it comes to scoring, one in each league or cup match.

Arsenal have proved that they are more than capable of scoring goals, with three against both Man City in the Community Shield and Coventry in the Premier League. However, their defensive solidarity has been the main feature of the campaign to date with only a solitary goal conceded. That was Morgan Rogers’ second minute strike for Chelsea in a game Arteta’s side came back to win 2-1.

Given Sunderland’s solidarity and Arsenal’s ability to grind out results and shut teams down, I do not expect many goals. I almost went for under 2.5, but I decided to be cautious and start the bet builder by backing under 3.5 goals. The Kickform stats show that both teams have a 100% record for three match goals or less this season. Their predictions give a 74% chance of less than 3.5 goals, and I am starting the bet builder off by going with this.

Martin Odegaard to Score or Assist

After getting back into the groove at the World Cup following a campaign disrupted by injury, Martin Odegaard has started the season like a train. If you include the Community Shield, the Norwegian international has bagged four goals in five matches in all competitions. He heads to the North East after once again proving to be the difference maker in Arsenal’s Champions League victory over Napoli. Odegaard has not registered an assist yet, which is something I expect to end soon. With this in mind I am backing him to make an impact at the Stadium of Light by claiming a goal involvement.

Kai Havertz 1+ Shots on Target

Kai Havertz has played a big part in Arsenal’s impressive start. Havertz has two goals from three Premier League matches, plus another in the Community Shield. In the Premier League the Kickform stats show that the German international has hit five shots in those three league appearances with four ending up on target. This is a rate of 1.40 shots on target per 90 minutes. I back him to work the goalkeeper on Saturday.

Wilson Isidor 1+ Shots on Target

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has opted to use Wilson Isidor from the bench in the Premier League. The French-born Haiti international has proved he can make an impact by scoring once and registering five shots, with two hitting the target. Last season Isidor made 11 starts and 21 substitute appearances with an average of 1.32 shots on target per 90 minutes. Given his consistency, I am backing him to register an effort on target.
