It wasn’t that long ago that we were using Teletext (Channel 303, of course) to get the footie results on a Saturday afternoon… We know, showing our age. Thankfully, those days are long gone, and now we can get updates from any game, in any league or country, directly from our smartphones. But not all are equal. We’ve done the legwork and tested the lot to bring you the best football score apps on the market right now.

Our Top 8 Live Score Apps in the UK

If you’re short on time, he’s a quick look at eight of the best live football score apps we’ve tested. Keep scrolling for more in-depth reviews below.

What Are Live Score Apps?

Imagine Jeff Sterling in app form. An encyclopaedic knowledge of football scores, results, insights, news, and betting odds. It’s like the whole OG Soccer Saturday crew of Thomo, Merse, Charlie and Le Tiss… before they got cancelled. Well, that’s what live score apps are.

They’re far from a new concept, but they’ve evolved massively in a short period. The best football score apps are more like data hubs, with betting stats, the latest team news, where to watch on TV, live commentary, match summaries, and the latest odds. And it’s not just for the footie; tennis, basketball, golf, darts, snooker…heck, some even cover Kabaddi. What even is Kabaddi? We digress.

From a betting perspective, they’re essential tools. We use all livescore apps as part of our own betting tips and predictions to give us the best chance of finding info the bookies miss. Most platforms are free to use, have fantastic interfaces and are rapidly replacing the need for traditional football media sites.

How to Select a Good Live Score App

The best football live score apps aren’t all built the same – but that’s a good thing. Each one comes with diverse features, and we’ve highlighted these below.

Real-Time Updates

Probably an obvious place to start, but real-time updates should be a given. Yes, these apps have evolved, but the heartbeat of what they do is football scores, and they must be prompt. The best football score apps are super-fast (5-20 seconds following an event in a match) and rival many betting apps, such as bet365, which are bang on the money for every game.

Comprehensive Coverage

Coverage has improved massively as part of the regeneration of the best live score apps. We’re no longer limited to the five major European leagues and now have access to games worldwide. Need to know the latest scores from the Bermudan Premier League? Tick. A die-hard Luis Angel Firpo fan from El Salvador? Tick. Sweating a late-night acca on random Division Professional games in Bolivia? Tick again.

User Interface

Design teams for the best live score apps for football are the true heroes. It can have all the real-time scores and data in the world, but it won't make the grade if it looks and runs like a bag of spanners. Now, design doesn’t have to be elaborate. In fact, apps like LiveScore and Flashscore and brilliantly simple. The scores load quickly, the data is accurate, you can swipe between different pages, and there are very few invading ads, which we loathe. Less is more, friends. Less. Is. More.

Notification Settings

Try to find football apps that have notification options. Having every single goal to ping on your phone would be a nightmare. But having the option of getting alerts when events take place, for games you’re tracking, is an underrated feature and something you should look out for.

In-Depth Stats

We harp on about football stats a lot. They’re vital if you’re trying to become a profitable bettor, and these mobile live score apps have cottoned on to that. The best ones have pre-game and in-game data, showcasing form, possession, shots, corners, cards, and player performance metrics, to name a few.

Betting Platform Integration

Most of the best football score apps have betting platform integrations. It allows you to see real-time odds and how events on the pitch influence the bookies. Some also include betting insights, where they take the data and create plausible outcomes before linking these to singles, accas or even bet builders. Pretty cool.

Most Popular Football Score Apps Ranked & Reviewed

We’ve spent an almost alarming amount of time testing and probing dozens of football score apps to see how they work. Seriously, we’ve become a little obsessed. Below, we’ve listed the crème de la crème and included context about why they’re better than a Wayne Rooney bicycle kick.

1. LiveScore

Livescore logo

LiveScore takes the win as the best app for football scores. It’s one of the sector's biggest brands, and they back up the hype with an incredible product.

What we love about LiveScore is its versatility. If you’re looking for a simple app to grab the latest football scores from hundreds of leagues around the world, this is a no-brainer. They have a great navigation menu system, and you can swipe back and forth without jumping to the homepage each time. A small feature, but one that saves a lot of time.

Its biggest selling point for us is the interlinking between football and betting. In 2020, they opened their own betting platform, LiveScore Bet (check out our review), and it’s now very much integrated into the live score app. What’s cool about it is that you can toggle betting integration on and off, so if you just want the scores, it’s non-intrusive.

Turn it on, and you’ve got the latest odds from tons of leagues and competitions. You can even flick through different markets, use their bet builder feature or take advantage of daily price boosts. It’s the perfect combination of betting and live sports, and we think it’s the best football score app on the market.

2. Flashscore

Flashscore logo

With very little to separate the top two, Flashscore is a great alternative. As the name would suggest, it’s super-quick with their scores. Our tests showed a delay of around 10-15 seconds from goals scored live to the app updating.

The amount of data you get from games is incredible. We loved the live player ratings (similar to FotMob) and the inclusion of xG (Expected Goals). Other notables include touches in the opposition box, passes in the final third, and big chances created, which are three great metrics to gain a more in-depth look at how teams are performing.

The betting side is less full-on than LiveScore, but one area in which they got the jump over LS is with odds comparison tables. It takes all the leading bookies, compares the odds, highlights if they are shortening or drifting, and showcases the market-best price. If we could only pick one reason (there are lots) to recommend Flashscore, it would be for this.

3. Sofascore

Sofascore logo

If you want to geek out about football stats, then Sofascore is your go-to. The amount of data is vast. Seriously, these guys have taken it to a new level by creating their own algorithm that analyses data points for every game to come up with ratings. It’s not just linked to xG but also player ratings (which they are famed for) and probabilities for the outcome of games.

It’s impressive without being overwhelming. For example, the Featured Players section creates graphs that overlay against the baseline for players in the same position, or you can pick specific players to compare. How cool is that!

You don’t get the links to football betting that the others do, and the interface isn’t as intuitive, with a bit of a funky menu system. This doesn’t put us off at all. Far from it, in fact. If you want to go above and beyond regarding data, Sofascore is the best football live score app for you.

4. FotMob

Fotmob logo

We’re not quite sure if you can describe mobile live score apps as sexy, but we’re going to anyway, as that’s exactly what Fotmob have produced. Design and user interface are a huge part of what makes this app great. Everything from how the menus work to the speed that scores land, is first class.

But that’s not even the best bit. You download Fotmob to see the sheer depth of stats available. Everything from pre-game to in-game has more stats than a rocket scientist's spreadsheet. The momentum chart shows live data on which team is on top, taking all the stats and presenting a beautiful visual to showcase how a team is playing. It’s an absolute thing of beauty.

Match commentary has extensive text updates and a live match centre (Play by Play) where you can see who’s got the ball and in what area of the pitch. Each game has player ratings – like Sofascore – live league tables, player profiles and head-to-head comparison.

The crossover to betting is more subtle on Fotmob than on some of its competitors. Each game has the latest match odds, and popular leagues – like the Premier League, for example – have markets for over/under goals odds, both teams to score and double chance. What we’re trying to say is that there are better options for betting integration, but it’s one of the best football score apps for data and research purposes.

5. Followscores

Followscores logo

We’ve spoken a lot about how score apps have evolved into sports and betting hubs, and for the most part, it’s been a great transition. But we get that a lot of you just want to see the latest footie scores without too much hassle or being bombarded with data that’s not needed. If that sounds like you, Followscores is going to tick a lot of boxes.

The interface is clean, modern and easy to use. There’s a nice menu at the bottom, where you can jump between different leagues or get the latest news and fixtures from teams you follow. Game previews have a decent amount of stock data, such as form, average goals scored and conceded, the team's top scorer and head-to-head records.

It’s probably harsh to say it’s back to basics, as Followscores is better than that. But it doesn’t have the features of the four mentioned above, and to be honest, there’s nothing unique about it. If you’re solely looking for the best score app for football, this will be a good fit, but you lose the depth that others have as a trade-off.

6. 365scores

365scores logo

365scores – not tied to bookmaker bet365 – is next on the list. Their approach is to create a more personal live scores hub. When you open the app, you’re asked about your favourite team and leagues you want to follow. This isn’t unique to 365scores, but how it’s displayed within the app is.

You have two tabs at the top – My Scores and All Scores. The former has all the teams and leagues that you regularly follow. You can customise it as much as you want, and it’s handy if you want to cut out the noise from thousands of games every day. The former – All Scores – is exactly that: anything and everything from around the world. It allows for more customisation than most, and those of you who need that will appreciate 365scores.

A notable highlight while testing is their News section. Again, not exactly exclusive, but interestingly, they have a “Highlights” section within, where you can click on the game, watch the highlights, and see the data and match stats while you stream. Pretty sweet!

7. Goal Live Score

Goal logo

With a very similar design to Fotmob, which we love, Goal Live Score has truly hit the back of the net regarding looks. But that’s where a lot of the similarities end.

Let’s start with the good stuff. It’s easy to use, and like Followscores, if you’re just looking to get the latest football scores, it’ll work well. There’s a decent amount of team and player data, and we loved the options around notifications, allowing you to narrow down to specific game events, such as goals, halftime, lineups or results.

One of the biggest issues is the ads. They’re intrusive, and the app sometimes feels laggy, even on Wi-Fi. From a betting perspective, you’ve got match odds for the major leagues but not much else. The Conversation section allows you to chat with the community, which was kind of cool, but we’re not sure if the novelty would eventually wear off as you start getting berated for saying Everton will beat Man United by Ken from Doncaster.

8. Forza Football

Forza Football logo

Forza Football received strong reviews in both App Stores, and after spending time over the last few weeks testing, we can see why it gets the praise it does. It’s a compact app with a simple design, but it’s lightning-quick to use, and goals come through within a few seconds. In fact, it’s one of the fastest for goal notifications (around 10 seconds) that we’ve tested.

It will predominantly be used for tracking live scores, and you can link teams or players to your homepage so you get these notifications first. The Transfers section is interesting and, so far, unique in our guide on the best football score apps. It lists all confirmed and reported transfers from the top leagues worldwide. You can vote if you think it’s good business and see what others say. This’ll be great to beep track of the transfer window, but we’re unsure how much use it would get outside of that.

Unfortunately, there’s not much in terms of footie stats or data. In fact, there’s no pre-game at all, and for live, you’re limited to around 10-15 data points. To end on a high, we liked the videos for footie results that pulled in the goals from the game on X (formerly Twitter), almost feeling like a mini highlight reel. Kudos for that.

Honourable Mention: KickForm

What is life without a little self-promotion? Well, that’s exactly what we will do here, as we introduce KickForm into the mix. This is our own stats-based model that analyses data from hundreds of games to make football predictions.

Within KickForm, we use this data to create the most likely result for each game. You can then use this result to target betting markets and find value. We give you the data. You find the bets. Simple.

The best thing is that it’s super easy to use. Just choose the league or the competition, search through the games, compare the statistical outcome to the odds, and Bob’s your uncle…Value!

Is KickForm the best live football score app? No. But when it comes to statistical analysis by sophisticated algorithms to create data-driven betting tips, it blows them out of the water. To translate that to English, it does all the research for you. You’re welcome.

Is There a Better Live Score App for Each Football League?

The short answer is yes. But there’s more to it than that. Each of them has strengths and weaknesses, but if we’re honest, the top four best football live score apps (LiveScore, Flashscore, Sofascore and Fotmob) are well clear of the rest. There’s nothing the others do that they don’t, so we will concentrate on these and tell you who’s best and for what.

  • List Icon

Premier League + UEFA Champions League – LiveScore stands out for both competitions in terms of the depth of the stats, promptness of scores and links to betting odds. They’re the only one of the best score apps for football to have both outrights and specials markets, as well as extensive player and team stats.

  • List Icon

La Liga – Getting the nod for La Liga is Flashscore. One of the app's best features is game previews, which are accessible for all La Liga games. They’re human-written (we think), highlight data points that link perfectly to online betting (think over 2.5 goals, BTTS and total corners), and have odds comparison across six of the best online bookies in the UK.

  • List Icon

Bundesliga – For the Bundesliga, we’ve gone with Sofascore. The “Details” section on the app is simply superb. It gives an overview of the league, including how far through the season we are, the team of the week (including player ratings), featured game of the week, links to media articles for the league and general facts, such as average goals, home team win percentages and yellow cards. Das ist gut!

  • List Icon

Ligue 1 – We unashamedly described Fotmob as sexy earlier, so that’s as good as any to tie it in with the French. It’s all about the live data here, with Ligue 1 games getting huge coverage across the app. Pre-game has the preview section, highlighting form, rankings and key insights before the behemoth rolls out in-game with the brilliant Play-by-Play match centre.

  • List Icon

Serie A – For the Scudetto fans, Flashscore gets the nod once again. It’s for similar reasons to La Liga, in that we loved the game previews. They add so much value to this app from a betting perspective, and it’s one of the main reasons why Flashscore got voted as one of the best football score apps on our list.

What’s the Best Live Football Score App for iOS and Android?

iOS versus Android. An age-old battle up there with Barcelona versus Real Madrid, Yankees versus the Red Sox, Ali versus Frazer, and Brighton versus Palace… OK, maybe not the last one (fake rivalries FTW), but you get the picture.

We’ve tested them all on both operating systems and selected the best football scores app for each platform.

LiveScore – Top Football Scores App for iOS Users

We’ve already crowned LiveScore as the pinnacle, but there’s a notable difference between iOS and Android regarding the efficiency of score updates.

Testing the app on multiple devices, scores come through on iOS two to five seconds quicker than on Android. Why, we aren’t sure. It’s possibly because Apple’s uniformed hardware and software makes it easier for developers to create a faster upload time with the database. However, we’re not Tim Cook, so we’re guessing – but the numbers don’t lie.

We know that LiveScore is already super-fast with score updates, so it makes sense that it takes the crown as the best football score app for iPhone users.

Sofascore – Top Football Scores App for Android Users

Sofascore just got the nod for Android users, but it was close. This is one of the more resource-heavy apps that can eat through your battery – less than ideal if you’re sweating that Saturday afternoon 10-fold for a couple of hours.

Even though Apple fanboys would argue otherwise, Android generally has better battery life. The operating system isn’t as bulky as iOS, which means data-heavy apps like Sofascore run perfectly. So, when Bromley Town FC miss a 95th-minute penalty to deny you a 50/1 acca win – yeah, we’re totally over that – you’ll be able to stay right up to date with Sofascore as the best football score app for Android.

Live Score Apps vs Betting Apps

We’ve used live score apps for over a decade, and in that time, they’ve evolved massively. If all they do is produce live footie results, they’re not up to scratch anymore. They now need to have stats, news, livestreaming, results, highlights, and betting odds. That’s a lot!

Betting apps differ, as they allow you to place a bet, which you cannot do directly on live score apps. But we’ve also seen significant improvements in how these operate, almost mimicking the features of the live score apps.

In an ideal world, you want both. The best live score apps give you the tools to form and track your picks using the hordes of data that’s included. The betting apps allow you to place the bet at the best possible odds. Sure, there’s a crossover between the two, but they are specialists in their respective fields and should be used in conjunction, not in isolation.

The Importance of Football Score Apps for Live Betting

Football score apps complement live betting perfectly. To make informed betting decisions, we must analyse what’s happening in a game and then react before the markets do.

The biggest impact is the data and statistics you get with a dedicated football scores app. Sofascore is a great example of this, with real-time game and player stats, showcasing exactly what’s happening and, ultimately, what might happen next.

There’s a big caveat to this, and it comes from the speed at which updates are made. Betting apps or live betting match centres update quicker than football apps. Take bet365, for as an example. When a goal is scored, it’s updated instantly on the app. At worst, the market is suspended, so you can’t react anyway. From our testing, live score apps are anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds slower.

So, what does all this mean? Use the live score apps for your stats to highlight potential trends and integrate these with live betting sites (in-play match centres) for the quickest score updates.

ThePuntersPage Final Say

Gone are the days when live score apps just gave updates on scores and results. We’re at a stage where these are now imperative tools for online and live betting. They’ve pushed the boundaries in terms of what we consume as bettors and are seemingly improving all the time. There are lots of great options to pick from, including Sofascore, Flashscore or Fotmob. But the best football score app right now is LiveScore.

Live Score Apps FAQs

The quality of football live scores apps is exceptionally high, and there are four standouts in the market: LiveScore, Flashscore, Sofascore and Fotmob. They have super-fast score updates, huge statistics sections and daily news updates.

LiveScore is the fastest score app that we’ve tested. Scores are updated 10-15 seconds after events have taken place, which is incredibly quick.

It’s not common practice for live score apps to have livestreaming. However, the LiveScore app has links to its own betting site – LiveScore Bet – where you can stream games for free with an account.

LiveScore is ranked as the best live score app for iOS. It’s got a brilliant interface and is free to download via the App Store.

Android users will get the most from Sofascore. It’s free in the Google Play Store and is packed with features, like live data analysis, heatmaps, featured odds, challenges and live player ratings.

Absolutely! Live score apps provide a wide array of features that may not be found on mobile betting apps; these features could prove to be extremely useful when placing in-play bets or using in-app cash outs.
