La Vuelta Betting Tips
We have been analysing the performance of the top riders and the top teams over the season to bring you our a few La Vuelta betting tips. Now that the odds are out, and some riders are confirmed we bring you our thoughts on the race.
Tour de France winner, Tadej Pogacer, is the overwhelming favourite. The Slovenian star won the Tour de France for the fifth time last month, his third victory in a row. He started competing later than usual in 2026, meaning that he will be looking to hold his form into the late summer and target La Vuelta. He is clearly the best man in the field and it would take a major upset to prevent him claiming the only Grand Tour victory missing from his CV. Naturally, the odds are very short, so we have produced some tasty each-way tips.
However, several top riders, who regularly target this race, have caught our eye, which enables us to bring you some early La Vuelta tips.
Felix Gall: (Decathlon CMA CGM Team): Giro d’Italia runner-up a great each-way bet
Felix Gall claimed second spot in the 2026 Giro d’Italia and if you take away Pogacar, he looks like the man to beat. He excelled on the climbs in the Italian event and is our top each-way pick. He was eighth in La Vuelta last year but has kicked on from that.
Primož Roglič (Red Bull): Back the four-time winner each-way
2024 winner Primož Roglič of Red Bull is another great value each-way bet. If you’re looking for horses for courses, Roglič has had a quiet 2026 to date but he has four wins and a third-place finish to his name in this event in the last seven years. The Spanish hills and roads seem to suit him. He can cope with the heat, and although beating an in-form Pogacar is a tough ask, he is a good bet to finish in the first three.
Enric Mas (Movistar): La Vuelta’s Mr Consistency could be up there
Enric Mas, of Movistar, has not finished outside the top six of La Vuelta since placing 17th on his debut, in 2017. He has three second places and a third-place finish to his name. The Majorca native seems to relish his home country’s tour and, having recently turned 31, is at an age where endurance athletes often peak. He has had a quiet time of late but he is a great outside bet to sneak into the top three. Worth backing each-way.
La Vuelta a España Favourites
The bookies have Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacer as the clear favourite. If Pogacer rides to his potential it looks like being a race for second place. Joao Almeida, Primoz Roglic, Florian Lipowitz, Felix Gall and Enric Mas are considered the next most likely.
Most Popular Markets for La Vuelta Betting
There are a whole host of cycling betting markets available for La Vuelta. Throughout the three weeks of the tour, there is plenty of flexibility and variety. Obviously, you can bet on the outright winner and on stage winners, but the key point is to look for the value. We have highlighted the main betting markets.
Betting on the outright winner of the Vuelta a España is a straightforward market, where you simply bet on the General Classification winner, otherwise known as the Red Jersey winner. You can also get each-way odds on this, splitting the bet between a win and a place.
Such has been Roglic’s dominance, that there are markets for the outright winner with Roglic excluded. When there is a huge favourite who looks a class above the rest of the field, some bookmakers will offer odds on the outright winner without the favourite.
You can bet on the winner of each stage of Vuelta a España. Simply select who you think will win the stage on the day you are placing your wager. Research the cyclist’s strengths and weaknesses and compare these with the type of stage to maximise your chances of a successful bet. Shorter, flatter stages will favour sprinters, while the mountain stages will favour climbers. Only a select number of riders will have the skill set to excel on each stage.
Points Classifications are about the speed merchants and sprinters. Instead of a yellow jersey, they are chasing green, and it’s for the rider who accumulates the most points from the high stage finishes and intermediate sprints. Mark Cavendish has excelled in these stages in the recent past.
Betting on the winner's nationality is another popular Vuelta a España betting market. Here, you simply select a nationality for the outright winner of the Vuelta a España.
The King of the Mountains (KOM) Classification goes to the strongest climber, who earns the polka dot jersey. This market is the most open of the three jersey chases, as it favours hill specialists and those who can time their effort well, not necessarily the challengers for the overall title or the sprinters.
A top ten, or top three finish is similar to each-way betting. You are essentially wagering on a particular cyclist to end the tour in the top ten or top three.
You can also bet on the team competition. Research how each team, and their individual riders, have performed over the season and investigate their strengths and weaknesses ahead of making your picks. There will be 22 teams riding the 2024 Vuelta a España, including all 18 WorldTour teams and four second-tier ProTeams. Full details are yet to be confirmed.
Picking a winner for the General Classification or for a stage is not easy, given the number and quality of riders. You can narrow your bet down to two or three cyclists to finish highest across a stage. The bookies will tend to pit evenly matched riders against each other, so the odds will often be around evens. To get a better price, you might want to combine multiple head-to-head bets to create an acca, which would potentially give a higher payout.
How to Bet on La Vuelta a España
You have a great range of markets to choose from when betting on La Vuelta, with any of the best betting sites in the UK featuring the event. As with any sport, research is crucial if you want to maximise your chances of success.
You need to analyse the individual riders, check out how they have performed this season and research past seasons to see how they look and when they come to a peak.
When betting on stages, you need to consider the demands being placed on the cyclists on that day and compare it with their skill set. You need to look at the terrain and the distance before deciding who will be the main contenders.
Cycling is also one of the best sports for in-play betting. In the early phases of each stage, there are a lot of tactics and strategies, and you can watch the action, react to breakaways and crashes, and react to what is happening. Things can change quickly when a fancied rider suffers fatigue and fades from contention, and if you react quickly, you can find more value. You can also use live betting to back one of the leaders to hedge your bets if your initial pick is struggling.
We will provide more information on this closer to the event, once the field is confirmed and the odds are out.
