May’s heavyweight boxing bonanza continues as Dave Allen takes on Filip Hrgovic in Doncaster. The Englishman is looking to cause a sensation against one of the world’s top heavyweights, while at the same time I’m aiming to give the bookies a nice bruising with four juicy bets.
Dave Allen vs Filip Hrgovic Betting Tips
If you had placed £10 on all four bets I recommended for last weekend’s Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois fight, you would have come out with £33.71… a small loss. Had Wardley landed one more body punch, that winnings pot would have been £66.21. How frustrating!
I’m staying clear of the punch markets on this occasion, primarily because there is little value. However, I have found four other tasty bets with some of the best online bookies. Check out my picks below…
| Market | Odds (Bookmaker) | Return for £10 |
|---|---|---|
| Six Rounds Completed | 4/9 (Betfred) | £14.44 |
| Dave Allen to be Knocked Down – Yes | 1/2 (William Hill) | £15.00 |
| Will the Fight go the Distance – No | 4/6 (Ladbrokes) | £16.67 |
| Filip Hrgovic by KO, TKO or DQ | 5/6 (bet365) | £18.33 |

Bet 1: Six Rounds Completed
Let’s start with a steady 4/9 selection. The price might not be eye-catching, but if you’re looking for a relatively low-risk bet, this is the one.
Hrgovic is the better boxer and should control large parts of the fight, but Allen is from Doncaster, and we all know that Donny folk are built different.
The White Rhino underlined his toughness in recent times by going the distance against Arslanbek Makhmudov and also doing 15 tough rounds with Jonny Fisher.
It’s also worth noting that this bet has landed in five of Hrgovic’s previous six bouts.
Bet 2: Dave Allen to be Knocked Down – Yes
This next bit will sound like a bit of a contradiction, but trust me, it’s not.
Allen is a tough, tough competitor, but the 34-year-old is not a world class operator. Hrgovic, on the other hand, is ranked by all four sanctioning bodies, including number two by the WBO.
There are levels to this game, and Hrgovic is expected to turn on the style as he looks to put his name in the world title conversation.
I don’t expect a knockdown in the early rounds, but Hrgovic has enough tools in his arsenal to systematically break down his English rival. Priced at 1/2, I’m backing Allen to face the count at some point in this fight.
Dave Allen vs Filip Hrgovic Head-to-Head
| Dave Allen | Stats | Filip Hrgovic |
|---|---|---|
| 25-8-2 | Pro Record | 19-1 |
| 20 | Wins by KO | 14 |
| 34 | Age | 33 |
| 6ft 3in | Height | 6ft 6in |
| 75in | Reach | 82in |
| Orthodox | Stance | Orthodox |
Bet 3: Will the Fight go the Distance – No
The odds continue to get better as we go through the selections, and this third pick comes at a tasty 4/6 price.
I’m not backing this fight to go the distance, and that is primarily down to Allen and his record in big fights.
The White Rhino has lost against Dillian Whyte, Luis Ortiz, Tony Yoka, David Price, Frazer Clarke, and most recently, Makhmudov.
A good chunk of those defeats came by stoppage, and I’m backing Hrgovic to continue that trend. After all, the Croat has won 14 of his 20 pro fights by knockout.

Bet 4: Filip Hrgovic by KO, TKO or DQ
Time for the NAP — and it could be nap time for Dave Allen too, because my strongest play is Hrgovic to win by KO, TKO or DQ.
The only thing shocking about this selection is the price, with bet365 offering almost even money.
Hrgovic has gone the distance in each of his last two outings, beating Joe Joyce and David Adeleye in 2025, but this feels like the ideal fight for him to return to his destructive best.
Allen has historically struggled with heavy-handed pressure boxers who can maintain a high pace and force him onto the back foot. That’s exactly the kind of bout that Hrgovic brings.
The Croatian hasn’t recorded a stoppage win since 2023, and if he wants to push himself back into world-title contention, a convincing finish here would send the right message. I’m backing him to get it done inside the distance.
My Bet is Live
Out of the four bets outlined above, I'm backing Hrgovic to win by KO, TKO or DQ. This bet comes with a tasty 5/6 price with bet365. You can find my bet slip below.
