Bet 1: Moses Itauma to win Round 7-12
Is the hype real? That is the question that will be answered come Saturday night.
Moses Itauma has been dubbed the next big star of heavyweight boxing after blowing away seasoned opponents in magnificent fashion.
The likes of Demsey McKean, Dillian Whyte and Jermaine Franklin have all been destroyed by Itauma, but a huge step up in opposition now awaits.
Going from Franklin to Filip Hrgovic is like going from playing a League One team to facing a mid-table Premier League side. That is what makes Saturday’s fight so interesting.
Itauma has never been beyond six rounds as a professional, but he may have to prepare for uncharted territory this weekend given how durable Hrgovic has proved to be.
The Brit should have no problems finding the target. Nobody seems to have much trouble hitting Hrgovic, with the Croat regularly absorbing heavy punishment yet showing remarkable durability and rarely looking close to being stopped.
Itauma is more skilful, faster and more elusive, but will he have enough left in the tank to get the job done in the second half of the fight?
I think the answer will be yes.
At 21/10, I’m backing Itauma to win between rounds 7 and 12.
Hrgovic has only been knocked down once and has suffered just one professional defeat, so this is undoubtedly a huge test for Itauma. However, I’m firmly on the hype train, and I believe the Brit has what it takes to make a statement and potentially make history on Saturday night.
Bet 2: Moses Itauma Most Jabs Landed and Most Body Punches Landed
William Hill’s #YourOdds section always tends to produce interesting bets, and this is certainly one of them.
There is a case to be made that the double jab could be one of the keys to defeating Itauma, although his 14 previous opponents have been unable to consistently put that theory into practice.
Hrgovic may look to use the double jab to keep Itauma at bay, but I fancy the Brit to out-land him throughout the fight.
One reason for that is simply how easy Hrgovic is to hit. The Croat has a habit of defending punches with his face and body, and that could play right into Itauma’s hands.
Given Itauma’s speed, accuracy and variety, I fancy him to land the most jabs as well as the most body punches.
It’s an unusual double, but at the right price, I’m happy to back the Brit to come out on top in both categories.
