FIFA was the video game series we all knew and loved, which for over 30 years reached a massive audience and created some iconic moments. In fact, the latest edition — FIFA 23 — sold a total of 159.1 million copies in Europe alone, even surpassing Modern Warfare 2.

FIFA 23 was the ultimate edition featuring both FIFA and EA Sports. Since then, EA have released their first solo football game — EA Sports FC 24. FIFA have begun the development of their own title, but little else is known so far.

Today, EA FC is the only brand to have any active tournaments, including the eChampions League, the FC Pro World Championship, and the FC Pro Open. Not much is known about the future of the FIFA esports betting competitions, and, so far, there seems to be no intention of keeping them going. More on this subject will come to public when FIFA creates their own game.

Why Bet on FIFA?

You may be thinking “Why not just bet on actual football?” It's a fair question, but there are plenty of reasons that make betting on FIFA or EA FC exciting — and most importantly, profitable.

  • List Icon

Fast paced: A match lasts between eight to twelve minutes, so it won’t take you long to find out the outcome of your stake. It’s also easy to find time to watch these matches live since they’re so short.

  • List Icon

Frequency: There are dozens of ongoing leagues and tournaments, which means you’re almost always guaranteed to find some games being played.

  • List Icon

High scoring: You’re not really going to see any 0-0 matches. High-scoring games are common and add a lot of excitement and betting opportunities to the gameplay.

  • List Icon

Unpredictable: At the highest level, the competition is tight, meaning that matches could go either way in many cases. EA FC is also famous for ‘momentum shifts’, where one action could lead to a quick comeback, even if a player is down a few goals.

  • List Icon

Livestreaming: Almost every match is livestreamed from the bookie you’re betting on. You’re therefore always guaranteed a place to watch the action unfold in real time.

Betting on FIFA is just as simple as betting on any other sport. For those of you who are completely new to betting, this is how it’s done:

  1. Pick a bookie: Choosing the right bookie is an important step, and the sportsbooks we’ve mentioned are all great choices.

  2. Registration: Create an account with the bookie, while making sure to use any promo codes available.

  3. Deposit: Make your first deposit. Most welcome bonuses will have a deposit requirement, so ensure that you follow it.

  4. Find eSoccer: Depending on the bookie, you might find eSoccer under ‘Esports' or ‘Football'.

  5. Betting: Dive right in or do your research first — it’s up to you. Researching will definitely increase your chances of winning bets, and following some betting strategies could also prove crucial to making better FIFA bets online.

Outright Winner

The simplest and most common bet type, this market requires you to predict the team or individual who ends up winning the entire FIFA tournament. Things can be unpredictable here, so be sure to do your research carefully beforehand.

Full Time

A Full Time bet requires you to predict the winner of a FIFA match. While it does not include extra time or penalties, it does take injury time into account. Most bookies will also offer the option to bet on the First Half result.

Total Goals

(Source: BetVictor)

A Total Goals bet involves predicting the total number of goals that both teams will score in a match, either over or under a specific number set by the bookmaker in question. Compared to real-life football, high-scoring games are more frequent in FIFA esports. It's not uncommon in the latter to witness seven-goal thrillers and the like! As such, by understanding the goal-scoring tendencies of FIFA esports, you can make more informed and potentially profitable betting decisions.

Next Goal

(Source: bet365 – odds correct as at 12/04/2024, 10:34)

With this bet, you need to predict the team or player you think will score the next goal. Usually available as a live market, you can also sometimes bet on the time frame (such as in the next five or ten minutes) within which the next goal will be scored. Additionally, some sites will also allow you to bet on the type of goal scored, such as a penalty kick, a free kick, or a header.

3-Way Handicap

Parimatch fifa handicap desktop screenshot
(Source: Parimatch)

A 3-Way Handicap bet is when a handicap or point spread is applied to a match with three possible outcomes: win, lose, or draw. In this type of betting, the handicap is used to level the playing field between the two teams and offer more favourable odds to bettors.

For example, as can be seen from the above-mentioned image, Germany has been handed a Handicap of -1, while Brazil has been handed a Handicap of +1. If you bet on Germany, they must win by two or more goals. If you bet on Brazil, they must either win or draw a match at the conclusion of normal time. On the other hand, if you back a draw, Germany must win by a solitary goal.

The rift between FIFA and EA Sports has left a slight vacuum in the esports soccer circuit. Not to fear, though, the FC Pro events have quickly filled up this space, and the tournaments are just as exciting, prestigious, and chock full of betting opportunities as the previous events.

FC Pro Open

A two-stage tournament, the FC Pro Open kicks off with a global qualifier, contested by 64 players. The 16 winners from this competition enter the FC Pro Open alongside last year’s top four. These are then divided into four groups of five, with the top two of each group progressing to the knockout rounds. Each player gets to choose their own FUT team, making for some interesting team selections. With a prize pool of $1,000,000, the tournament is hotly contested and makes for some excellent viewing and betting.

eChampions League

Taking a similar format to the real Champions League, the top teams from across Europe will compete to be crowned champions representing their club. The eight quarter finalists of the actual Champions League will also have a guaranteed spot in the group stage. It’s another massive competition with a $280,000 prize pool, set every May.

FC Pro World Championship

The biggest eSoccer event of the year, where the 28 best players from around the world, plus the top four in the FC Pro Open, compete to be crowned World Champion. The event’s prize pot is a whopping $1,000,000 and its global prestige makes for fantastic viewing. The betting markets and odds are, consequently, more in-depth.

ESportsBattle FOOTBALL

Being one of the biggest independent eSoccer structures, ESportsBattle FOOTBALL offers tons of events, matches, and tournaments. The organisation averages 28 games per day across different leagues, including the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, Champions league, and 22 other leagues.

ePremier League

As you may have guessed from the name, the ePremier League is based on the real-life English Premier League. The tournament consists of the 20 top-flight EPL teams of an ongoing season all competing against each other to be crowned the winner. Each team is represented by two gamers.

eLaLiga

The eLaLiga is, of course, based on the real-life Spanish La Liga. The tournament consists of 16 teams and is considered to be one of the most prestigious FIFA esports tournaments.

Current eSoccer FIFA Betting Schedule

The roster for FIFA esports tournaments is growing exponentially, as eSoccer becomes more and more popular. Below are the major events for the coming months.

DateTournamentPrize Pot

When it comes to betting, research is an essential tool to keep in mind. Even a minimal amount can make a significant difference between whether you stand to win or lose your wager. This is particularly important for those new to betting on esports and are still learning the ropes.

Statistical Analysis

Statistical analysis is a simple yet effective way to place smarter bets and make more accurate predictions. This includes looking at past results, current rankings, and form guides, all of which will give you further insight into what could happen during a match. Every FIFA tournament is different, which may involve some more research on your end. If you need extra help, there are some excellent esports tipsters who can point you in the right direction.

Watch Matches

Just like in real-life sports, esports players tend to have their own style of play. Some may use defensive tactics, whereas others might love a high press. Getting to know the outs and ins of a player’s style, as well as their strengths and weaknesses, will really help you make predictions when it matters most. The best way to do this is to watch livestreams of matches, which are usually broadcasted through players’ accounts.

Odds Comparison

One strategy which is sure to help you get the most bang for your buck is comparing and contrasting odds for the same match or tournament across different bookmakers. Luckily, we’ve already done some of the work for you by listing a few of the best esports betting sites available. All you need to do is choose the one you like best!

In–Play Betting

Live betting (or in-play betting) on FIFA esports involves placing wagers on various outcomes while the game is still in progress. While this allows you to adjust your bets based on the current state of the match, odds can fluctuate rapidly based on the ongoing events, meaning that quick decision-making ability, as well as a solid understanding of the game, is needed if you want to be successful here.

Play the Game

One of the best ways to understand the intricate details and nuances of the game is to play it. This gives you another perspective as to how players think, and might help you notice possible weaknesses or strategies that could add value to your betting research.

In its base form, EA FC / FIFA is a lifelike football game, where two or more players compete against each other trying to score goals with their teams to win a match. Players can choose from 30 leagues, 700 clubs, and over 19,000 players.

EA prides itself in using real-life stats, form, and transfers to make the game as realistic as possible. Each game comes with their own features and modes, but all include single player, pro clubs (multiplayer), career mode, and the insanely popular FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT).

FIFA Ultimate Team is played by creating a team made up of any players from the whole database, and competing against other eSoccer players in the same division. Wins will get you points to be promoted from your division, eventually reaching the Elite Division. Every match gives you a chance to win coins to buy new players and improve your team.

With every iteration of the game comes new features, graphics, game physics, and much more. All in the effort to make it more realistic…although a sweaty goal will forever remain the meta!

Best FIFA eSoccer Players of All Time

Donovan Hunt – TekKz

Currently one of the best eSoccer players in the world, TekKz is contracted with Manchester City. He has won 14 esports tournaments, starting from FIFA 19 up to FIFA 22. After finishing 2nd in the EA Sports Cup 2023, he managed to place 1st in the ePremier League 2024. TekKz primarily competes in PlayStation events, although he has taken part in a few Xbox tournaments as well.

Nicolas Villalba – nicolas99fc

This young Argentinian is another top esports talent, amassing a total of 18 tournament wins to date. Currently under contract with Sevilla FC, Villalba placed his team 1st in the La Liga FC Pro 2024. His career highlight occurred in 2019, when he won the FIFA eClub World Cup of that year.

Mosaad Aldossary – msdossary7

A 2018 FIFA World Champion, this Saudi Arabian eSoccer star is the first player to win a World Championship twice in one year in 2021! Having formed part of several different teams over the years, he currently plays for Team Falcons.

Umut Gültekin – Umut

Gültekin began his career relatively recently and only won his first major tournament in 2021. To date, though, he has won seven events and is the current FIFAe Club World Champion, so he is definitely one to watch going forward!

AUGUST ROSENMEIER – AGGE

The first of the two retired legends, Agge began his competitive journey on FIFA 13 and won 13 titles, including the FIFAe World Cup and the Electronic Sports World Cup. He’s one of only three people on this list to have won more than one World championship.

BRUCE GRANNEC – THE MACHINE

Paving the way for his future competitors, The Machine first played competitive esports with FIFA09 — over a decade before Umut. He’s won four titles, including three World Championships, and is the only player to have managed this feat. The now retired Grannec was ahead of his time in many respects.

FIFA has been a staple of the sports gaming market, with 33 games in the series since the early 90’s. Here are a few of the biggest milestones:

FIFA esports have evolved into a professional sport with its own leagues, teams, and superstars. This has not gone unnoticed by the punter community, leading to an increased demand for FIFA betting markets and coverage across top bookmakers online.

As we look to the future, FIFA esports will continue to thrive and expand, with more tournaments, bigger prize pools, and an ever-growing community of players and fans.

Based on our analysis, the best FIFA betting sites are Parimatch, BetVictor, and bet365.

Full Time, Total Goals, Next Goal, and 3-Way Handicap are all popular FIFA betting markets.

There are several massive esports tournaments, but the FIFAe World Cup, FIFAe Club World Cup, and the ePremier League are the biggest.

You should avoid any site that doesn’t seem instantly recognisable. In fact, your safest bet is to stick to the bookies provided here.

The biggest bookmakers will offer several payment methods, the most common including debit cards, Visa and a handful of e-wallets.
