Newcastle are reportedly ramping up their pursuit of Yoane Wissa after seeing a £70 million bid for Hugo Ekitike turned down by Eintracht Frankfurt. And honestly, we don’t blame them.
The 28-year-old has thrived since stepping into Ivan Toney’s old boots at Brentford, shifting from midfield to a central role and bagging a career-best season. He’s second overall for open-play goals in the Premier League this campaign, with all 19 of his strikes coming from inside the box. Clinical doesn’t even begin to cover it.
It’s the kind of penalty-area prowess that could help Newcastle build on their Carabao Cup success and push for more silverware. That said, the bookies might be jumping the gun. There are plenty of big clubs in the mix and talks are already heating up. At 5/6, the odds feel a bit too skinny to bite on just yet.
Bet 2: To Sign Before 2nd September 2025 – Tottenham (6/4)
The sound of the rumour mill has been deafening ever since Newcastle crashed into talks like a freight train, completely drowning out Spurs’ quieter advances. But don’t be fooled, Tottenham are still very much in the mix. They have been holding serious discussions for a good while now, desperate to add some fresh firepower and with the funds to back it.
Add to that the fact Wissa is said to prefer a move to Spurs, and you could argue they remain the most likely destination ahead of Newcastle. In a nutshell, those 6/4 odds are well worth considering.

Some very tasty odds on this one and to be honest we reckon there’s a slim outside chance. The Villans had a solid season, finishing in a respectable sixth place, and are keen to bring in players to push them even further. For example, they are among several clubs chasing Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and have just snapped up Dutch keeper Marco Bizot.
Put simply, they are shaking things up and while Wissa does not seem to be top of their shopping list just yet, other deals can easily fall apart as they so often do. If that happens, especially with Leon Bailey looking likely to move on, they could suddenly find themselves short on strikers and their interest in Wissa might shoot up quickly.
Is it the most likely outcome? Probably not. But getting £80 back on a £10 punt is generous enough to make this a tempting outside bet.
