The first Manchester derby of the 2025/26 season takes place on Sunday. Manchester City host Manchester United at the Etihad, and our bet builder tips are paying £70 from just a £10 stake, including Haaland anytime goalscorer as a featured pick.

It’s been a lacklustre start to the season for both teams. With just two wins from six combined, both are desperate to find some much-needed momentum as Premier League action returns following the international break.

Pep Guardiola’s team have looked a shadow of the side that romped to 91 points and an eighth league title in 2023/24. A meagre 71 points last season saw them scrape Champions League football, and they have flattered to deceive so far in this campaign.

Defeats to Tottenham and Brighton followed a sole win away to Wolves as the Spaniard endures his lowest points return from a rolling 38-game period since joining City in 2016. Defeat on Sunday would be his 50th from 345 Premier League games in charge (W247 D49) – a ratio bettered only by Sir Alex Ferguson (367), no less – and boy, would the Old Trafford faithful like to bring up his half-century.

Things haven’t fared much better on the red side of the city. Manchester United have lost to Arsenal, drawn at Fulham and beaten Burnley, albeit after a highly controversial 90+7 penalty from one of the few constants in the team, skipper Bruno Fernandes.

An embarrassing Carabao Cup exit to League Two Grimsby Town has increased pressure on Ruben Amorim after investing heavily in his squad over the summer. The mood around Old Trafford would get a welcome boost with a result on Sunday, and given City’s struggles, it feels like a great opportunity to do exactly that.

Bet 1: Haaland Anytime Goalscorer Odds vs Man United is the Value Play

City may have stumbled out of the blocks, but Erling Haaland is doing what Erling Haaland does. Scores goals. We’re becoming a little numb to the brilliance of Haaland in front of goal, and his three in three games in the league have gone under the radar. In fact, he’s even underperforming on his expected goals (xG) output at 3.86, which is the highest in the league and almost double that of next best, Ismaïla Sarr (1.98 xG).

Five went in for him mid-week as he led the line against Moldova for Norway, so he’s in imperious form coming into derby day. Six goals and three assists in five City-United derbies prove he loves this fixture, and even though Haaland’s odds to score anytime on Sunday are short at 8/11, there’s still enough value to make this the first pick of our bet builder tips.

Bet 2: Leny Yoro 2+ Tackles

Leny Yoro has been a feature of Man United’s defence this season, occupying the right-side centre-back role as part of a three. At 19, the Frenchman is one of the most exciting talents in the league, and even though the Red Devils have defensively looked a little lost at times, he’s been a standout performer.

What’s impressive about Yoro is his ability to sniff a tackle. When you watch the best, like Virgil van Dijk, he marshals his opponents before timing tackles. It’s a great skill, and Yoro has very similar traits. He’s had 2+ tackles in each of his three opening Premier League games this season, and he’ll be a busy boy on Sunday. There will be plenty of opportunities to land the 2+ line once again, and his tackle stats suggest this is yet another value pick.

Bet 3: Bryan Mbeumo 1+ Shot on Target

Despite Man United’s result, new signing Bryan Mbeumo has slotted nicely into the team. He got on the scoresheet for the first time against Burnley, notching two shots on target in the process and has looked sharp cutting in from the right-hand side.

He registered two more on target in the opening day defeat to Arsenal, and with Matheus Cunha missing due to injury, his eye for goal will be needed if they are to get anything from Sunday’s game. It’s also worth noting that Gianluigi Donnarumma will likely make his City debut, which should prompt the likes of Mbeumo to test the keeper at any opportunity. This is why, at 5/6, 1+ shots on target looks a strong bet.

Bet 4: Both Teams to Score – Yes

Neither team has been particularly impressive defensively in their opening three games. Both have shipped four in that period, which gives us a little cause for concern at the back.

The flip side is that they’ve been strong going forward. Man United are second in the xG table with 6.75 xG (5 actual) and City are fourth with 5.79 xG (5 actual). Historically, this fixture has seen BTTS stats land in eight of the last ten head-to-heads, meaning it’s a metric too significant to leave out. It’s the fourth and final part of our Man City vs Man United bet builder tips and boosts the final odds up to a value-packed 6/1.
