Bet 1: Middlesbrough to Beat Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster thumped Middlesbrough 4-0 when they met in the first round of this competition last season.
I’m expecting Boro to have a bit of revenge. Their performance at the weekend against Blackburn was below par, but not as bad as Donny’s drab start to League One.
Boro for the win is the way to go.
Bet 2: Sheffield United Under 1.5 Goals vs Blackburn
Two games into their Championship season, and Sheffield United are yet to find the back of the net.
Going away to Blackburn will not be easy, given they’ve only won three of their last 11 trips to Ewood Park. With that in mind, I’m backing the Blades in the under 1.5 goals market.
Bet 3: Millwall to Beat Cambridge
Millwall have spent well over £6m in the summer, and they’ve kicked off the Championship season with a couple of belting wins over Bristol City and Norwich.
Cambridge are a good League One side, but even if the Lions field a semi-strong XI, they will still fancy their chances.
Bet 4: Ipswich to beat Leicester City
Leicester boss Russell Martin revealed he may need to have “honest conversations” after the 2-1 loss to Burton at the weekend.
Two weeks into the season is surely a bit early for honest conversations… right? Something doesn’t smell right at Leicester. Gotta back Ipswich here.
Bet 5: Coventry to beat Plymouth
From an opening Premier League fixture at the Emirates, to a cup clash at League One’s Plymouth – some week for Frank Lampard and his men.
While Coventry can’t quite compete with Arsenal, they certainly have enough quality to beat a Plymouth side that lost their top scorer over the summer.
Bet 6: Hull City to beat Stoke
A cold Tuesday night in Stoke? Don’t worry, Hull are used it.
The Tigers have won their last three visits to Stoke, scoring eight goals across those matches. At 11/8, they’re the team to back.
Bet 7: Everton to beat Preston
There wasn’t much to like about Preston’s opening two games of the season – successive Championship defeats to Bolton and Wolves.
Everton, on the other hand, looked strong in their 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. Even with changes, the Toffees should be getting the job done against an underwhelming PNE.
