Group D won’t get a lot of column coverage this year, but for me, it’s low-key one of the most exciting groups in the tournament. You’ve got four teams, who, on their day, can all beat each other, and have just 24 ranking spots between them. It might not be the official Group of Death, but in terms of competitiveness, it’s right up there. Here are two Group D betting tips that I think offer insane value.

Bet 1: Turkey to Win the Group

I backed Turkey to win Group D in my Group Stage Betting Tips, and with just a few days to go until kick-off, my stance hasn’t changed. They’ve already beaten the USA recently, so they should head into that game as favourites.

They had to earn it the hard way, beating both Kosovo and Romania to punch their ticket to North America, and they were impressive in both games. Vincenzo Montella has them playing an organised, clinical style of football, which should suit the tournament, being hard to beat and one of those teams that no one will want to play.

Looking at the World Cup odds, the 7/4 price has really caught my eye. In fact, I’ll go on record as saying it’s one of the top three pre-tournament bets I’ve backed so far, such is the scope of its value.

Bet 2: Turkey/USA Straight Forecast

The forecast has been staple so far for my World Cup tips, and a great way to eek a little more value from some of the closer group bets. I’m sticking with my pick for Turkey to win the group and then for one of the host nations, the USA, to finish second.

People will argue that these results should be flipped, but I think the USA are way too short to lead as favourites here. Over the last 12 months, they’ve lost to Germany, Portugal, Belgium, South Korea, Japan, Mexico and even Panama. As yet, they’ve not found a way to step up against the more established nations, and I’d put Turkey in that bracket as well.

We’re getting 9/2 with a host of the best World Cup betting sites for this forecast and it’s definitely one where I think there’s value in the odds.
