Match Result: Man City to Win
City lost comprehensively to Arsenal in the Community Shield and then scraped to victory at home against Bournemouth. However, I think that they will have too much for the home side, especially when you consider that Palace performed better away from Selhurst Park last season. The Eagles deservedly lost away to Everton last Saturday, and it looks likely to be a tough season for new boss Pierre Sage. Away Corners: Over 5.5
City were awarded eight corners against Bournemouth and the Kickform stats from last season show that they averaged 6.7 corners per game. I expect City to have most of the play, therefore I am backing them to get at least six flag kicks.
Player 2+ Fouls: Elliot Anderson
Elliot Anderson’s performances for Nottingham Forest and England over the past couple of seasons earned him his big money move to Manchester City. Anderson is a great all-round midfielder, and he rightly draws plaudits for his passing and technical ability. He is also very competitive, and his all-action style sees him win a lot of challenges. This results in him conceding a number of fouls. Last season in the Premier League, he averaged 1.54 fouls per 90 minutes.
Anderson was in the thick of things against Bournemouth, completing 59 passes with 88.1% accuracy, making two tackles, winning two fouls, and giving away three fouls. He is clearly keen to get his City career up and running and will be out to make an impression at Palace. I am backing him to concede at least two fouls on Friday.
Total Goals: Over 2.5
Last season, 55% of Palace’s league games and 63% of City’s league fixtures saw over 2.5 goals. Palace conceded twice at Everton and, although they failed to score, they had an xG of 2.04. City scored twice and conceded once with an expected xG of 2.36. Erling Haaland, usually at his most prolific in August, had five shots against Bournemouth but failed to score. It is only a matter of time before he is back among the goals. Both fixtures between these two sides last season finished 3-0 to City. Six of the last seven Premier League meetings have seen over 2.5 goals scored. I expect there to be at least three goals in this one.
