Scotland make their long-awaited return to the World Cup finals when they take on Haiti in the early hours of Sunday morning. The Scots last made the World Cup finals in France 98, and they will be looking to get their tournament off to a positive start against an opponent who have had an even longer wait. Haiti last made the finals in 1974 where they lost their three group matches to Italy, Poland, and Argentina.

Scotland are heavy favourites against the second-lowest-ranked side in the tournament, but there is value to be found, and I’ve come up with four wagers to make a 4/1 bet builder.

I'm backing Scott McTominay to score or assist as part of my 4/1 bet builder.

Scotland to Win

Scotland are back on the World stage, and they go into this one as massive favourites. They sit 41 places above Haiti in the FIFA World Rankings. Scotland have often performed when it matters during the Steve Clarke era, and I don’t see an upset here. Clarke’s side go into the tournament having hit four goals in their two pre-tournament friendlies, making it six wins and a draw in their last 10 internationals. Haiti lost 2-1 to Peru in a friendly on Saturday and enjoyed a 4-0 win over New Zealand earlier in the month, making it four wins from their last 10. Kickform give Scotland a 60% chance of winning and I feel that they will have too much for their opponents and will get their World Cup campaign off to a positive start.

Over 2.5 Goals

I’m expecting goals in this one. Scotland have hit four in back-to-back friendlies and were involved in several high scoring games at the end of their qualifying campaign. Striker Lawrence Shankland, on the back of a fantastic season for Hearts, produced three goals and an assist across the two pre-World Cup friendly matches, meaning he has serious momentum. The Scots possess players who are capable of getting goals from midfield in the form of Scott McTominay and John McGinn. At the other end, they have only one clean sheet since September 2025. Haiti are not doing badly in front of goal with eight in their last five internationals. I am expecting three or more goals.

Scott McTominay to Score or Assist

McTominay has consistently produced the goods for his country. Capped 70 times, he has 15 goals and two assists, with 14 goals coming in his last 33 appearances. At club level the former Manchester United midfielder has enjoyed a productive season with 10 goals and three assists in 33 Serie A matches for Napoli in the 2025/26 season. After placing my bet, I was concerned to read that McTominay had missed training with a stomach bug. But he is expected to be fit, and I think that the World Cup betting odds for him to register a goal involvement are great value.

Over 7.5 Corners

Scotland’s recent matches have often seen a high corner count. Their last four matches have all seen corners reach double figures. Haiti have won eight corners in their two friendly matches ahead of the tournament. But what catches the eye is their tendency to concede flag kicks with 11 given away in those two games. In the 4-0 victory over New Zealand the Kiwis won eight corners. I am rounding off my Bet Builder by backing over 7.5 corners.
