With Norway and France both boasting 100% records, their World Cup 2026 Group I clash boils down to a shoot-out to finish top of the table. With the winners of this group scheduled to face one of the third-placed qualifiers, there is plenty of incentive to win, despite both sides having secured their passage to the knockout stages.

That said, both Ståle Solbakken and Didier Deschamps will want to manage the minutes of their squad, so when it comes to team selection, it will be a real balancing act. It promises to be an entertaining game, and my 3/1 bet builder can add more interest and, hopefully, a little bit of profit to the occasion. Due to uncertainty on team selection, I have steered clear of player props, but I still managed to find three great wagers.

Match Result: France

Both teams may have qualified, however, they will still be looking to get a result here in order to maintain momentum and to secure a potentially easier game in the knockout stages. There is a chance that both Solbakken and Deschamps, who will miss the match as he has had to return to France for his mother’s funeral, will shuffle their packs a little. I am backing the French to cope with this better and to get a result.

Norway have some top talent such as Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard, plus a number of good quality, solid performers. France, though, has a stronger team and a stronger squad, and even if Deschamps rings the changes, I expect them to win. Their squad players will want to prove a point, and those in possession of a starting place will want to keep the momentum going. Kickform is tipping France to win, and I agree.

Over 2.5 Goals

Both sides have looked full of goals in their Group I matches and in their friendlies ahead of the tournament. Over 2.5 goals has come up in all four group matches involving the two teams and in three out of Norway’s last four internationals and in each of France’s last four games. France’s 3-0 win over Iraq was their only clean sheet in that time, while Norway have conceded in each of their last four fixtures. In their two World Cup matches Norway have scored seven but have shipped three, while France have scored six and conceded one. Everything points to goals, probably at both ends, and World Cup betting odds of 4/6 with Betfred is decent.

Under 9.5 Corners

One of the early tactical trends of this World Cup has seen many teams line up in a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1, with many aiming to control possession and cut down on high-intensity pressing in the high temperatures. This has resulted in slightly fewer corners than you would expect. Teams will often try to hit longer diagonal passes to change the play, but I have still been caught out with lower-than-expected corner counts. Both of Norway’s games and one of France’s matches have seen less than 9.5 corners. Both teams have averaged five corners per game but, when they come together, I expect this to drop.
