The Dubai World Cup takes place annually, normally on the last Saturday in March. In all, the Dubai World Cup is made up of nine group races and is contested by the highest quality thoroughbreds in world racing. Only horses three years old and over can compete for the top prize, with a varying number of runners.

For the 2019 Dubai World Cup, for example, entries amounted to 13, which is a fairly typical amount. Distances for each event also vary, but will always range between 1,200 metres and 3,200 metres. As for the main event, this is run over 2,000 metres on the Meydan Racecourse’s dirt track. The prize pool for the Dubai World Cup is the largest in world racing, standing at over a whopping $12 million (US).

This is an event for only the most prestigious horses around the world to take part in. In all, around 158 overseas-based horses from around the world compete, representing more than 12 countries and 63 trainers.

At the time of writing, the 2023 Dubai World Cup is set to take place on Saturday, 25th of March at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. We will publish more information about the race once it is available.

Dubai World Cup betting can be extremely rewarding. Only the world’s best thoroughbreds will be in attendance at this premier racing event, meaning that the best online bookies will even include Dubai World Cup betting specials for punters to take advantage of. With these resources at your disposal, be sure not to miss out and do your research well! For those new to horse racing and the betting markets commonly offered on this sport, we have got you covered too.

Outright Winner Betting

An outright bet on a horse race is a wager placed on a horse to win a race; in this case, which horse will win the Dubai World Cup. Due to the prestigious nature of this event, bets can be made well in advance. Be warned, however, that all ante-post bets are made at the risk of the bettor in regards to non-runners. Alternatively, wait for the final declarations, study the very best in betting tips and pick a selection (or selections, if there is more than one runner that you fancy) and place your bet.

Each-Way Betting

Each-way betting is a nice way of giving your pick a little leeway to return a portion of your stake in the case that it does not win. A certain number of finishers will be given a fraction of their stake back as a reward for placing in a race. Traditionally, places depend on the number of runners as well as the type of race, and would pay either a quarter or a fifth of the odds for a top 3, 4 or 5 finish. However, many online bookies will offer promotions such as paying a higher number of places on the biggest, most anticipated races, of which the Dubai World Cup is certainly one.

Forecasts Betting

Forecast betting allows punters to predict the first two horses to pass the post of the winner. With this bet, punters must nominate the winning horse along with the immediate runner-up in the correct order. The result is calculated and then paid to the pound, so a 50p forecast would pay half the announced dividend. In order to allow your horses to finish in either order, you can back a reverse forecast. Costing twice the stake of a straight forecast, a reverse forecast allows bettors to pick the same two runners, but allowing them to finish 1st and 2nd in either order to result in a winning bet.

Tricast Betting

Like a forecast but bigger, a tricast is a bet on the first three horses home in a race. Again, just as the above, punters must correctly predict the order that the three horses finish in, with wins paid to the pound. In order to keep the same three selections as the top three finishers but generate a profited return by mixing up the order, bettors can place a combination tricast which consists of six bets, one for each possible outcome.

Traditionally more famous for its camel racing, horse racing in Dubai only dates back as far as 1981. In October of that year, when Dubai looked very different from the modern developed Emirate it is today, three races were staged on a dusty old camel racing track, in what was to be the first ever thoroughbred race meeting ever held there. The races – a sprint, a mile and a mile and a half – were the brainchild of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler and Vice President of Dubai, who is also the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the visionary founder of modern day Dubai.

By 1992, the Dubai Racing Club had been established, and by March of that same year, the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse was opened in a grand ceremony that included the biggest names in racing, including UK jockeys Willie Carson and Lester Piggott. One year later, the Nad Al Sheba hosted the initial Dubai International Jockeys Challenge in which jockeys from around the globe were invited to compete. Over time, this event gradually evolved into the Dubai World Cup, which was first held in its current form in 1996 and was won by Cigar from the US.

In 2009, the race was staged at the Nad Al Sheba for the final time as the race relocated to the Meydan for its 2010 renewal. Today, the Meydan has the capacity to hold 60,000 spectators.
