Introduction

SBK is a mobile only sportsbook established by Smarkets back in 2019. At first glance, as it has only just landed on the market, it seems to have little chance of competing with the more established sports betting sites. However, is this really true? We conducted a thorough review of SBK to find out whether it is worth your time.

Registration Process
5 / 5

  • Mobile only registration process
  • Takes a matter of minutes to set up your account
  • All windows well optimised for mobile scree

SBK’s registration is unique among the sportsbooks that we reviewed so far. Unlike its competitors, registration must be done through their mobile app, as opposed to a laptop or desktop.

SBK registration

After downloading the app — it is available on both the App Store for iOS and the Google Play store for Android — you will be prompted to enter your Email. After this, click ‘CREATE ACCOUNT’ and the stress free registration process will begin.

To sign up you will have to create a password, enter your location, as well as fill out your date of birth and mobile number. All the windows are optimised for mobile devices, making things painless.

When you have completed all of these forms, you then have the choice to opt in and out of marketing emails, select your odds format and also your card size.

Click ‘CONTINUE’ and you will be directed to make your first deposit. However, this is not a necessary part of registration. Simply click the cross in the top right corner and you will be free to browse the SBK app.

If you are concerned about signing up to this sportsbook, don’t be. The process takes minutes. After that, the fun can begin.

Deposits and Withdrawals Options
4.5 / 5

  • Great selection of payment options
  • Very generous deposit limits
  • Cryptocurrency the only thing missing

SBK possesses a truly world class selection of different payment options, offering their players more choice than the majority of their competitors.

In terms of debit cards, both VISA and Mastercard in the various guises are accepted. The minimum deposit for both of these is just £10, with no maximum being specified — though it worth remembering that some providers will impose their own upper limit.

SBK’s E-wallet selection is similarly impressive. As well as accepting Paypal, Neteller and Skrill can also be used. For the latter two e-Wallets there is no maximum deposit, but Paypal payments are capped at £5,500. Skrill and Neteller come with a minimum deposit of £10 while PayPal had a minimum deposit of £20. Bank transffer also have a minimum deposit of £10 with 3-5 business days processing time.

Online banking customers are accommodated by SBK as well. Trustly and regular bank transfers are both fine, although the limits differ. The former requires a hefty £40 minimum deposit. Meanwhile, £20 is the lowest amount available for a regular bank transfer.

It is not just the wide choice of payment methods that is impressive, but the process of depositing itself. Regardless of what option you select, deposits take a matter of minutes to complete thanks to the user friendly payment interface.

Perhaps the only thing SBK could improve on in the future is add some cryptocurrency payments, as well as a prepaid voucher option, such as Paysafecard.

Welcome Offer
4.5 / 5

  • Deposit £20, get £20 risk-free
  • Easy to claim and understand
  • Not all deposit methods eligible for bonus

In a competitive market, sportsbooks are constantly looking to convince new customers to sign up by offering enticing welcome bonuses.

SBK is no different, possessing one of the best new sportsbook promotions on the market. It is extremely easy to claim as well. All you need to do is deposit £20 and then place a qualifying bet. There are no requirements for this, you can bet on any market you wish.

If your bet does not win, your stake will be entirely refunded in cash with no strings attached, up to the value of £20. In order to make the most of this offer we recommend staking the whole £20, as this bet is entirely risk free.

There are a few things to remember with this promotion. First, only a debit card, bank transfer or Trustly should be used to fund your account. If you use PayPal, Neteller or Skrill, you will not receive the bonus.

Also, after making your first deposit you must make your qualifying bet within seven days. If you wait longer than this, the bonus will expire. This offer is not limited the losing the first bet only, so punters do not need to wager the the £20 in one go. Should you win your first and then lose for example £7, £3 and £10, SBK will refund the full £20.

Overall, we are big fans of the SBK welcome bonus. It is easy to understand but also great value, suiting it well to both new and more experienced bettors.

Sportsbook Promotions
2.5 / 5

  • Only one further promotion at time of review
  • However, SBK has offered great bonuses in the past
  • No loyalty programme

Since its inception, SBK has caught our eye with several additional promotions. However, we must have timed our review poorly, as during our testing period there was only one extra bonus available.

This was reserved for those who received an email for the Smarkets’ marketing team as well. It is similar to the operator’s sign up offer, except the maximum refund value was £10, as opposed to £20.

Do not let this put you off the sportsbook though. As we mentioned, SBK regularly offers additional bonuses. In order to stay abreast with the latest developments, we recommend opting in for marketing emails, as well as keeping an eye on the operator’s Twitter page. This is regularly updated with news and other great content.

VIP/Loyalty Service

Some sportsbooks attempt to increase player retention rates by offering a VIP programme. This scheme rewards an operator’s most loyal players with exclusive bonuses and more.

At the time of writing, SBK does not have any such programme. This is disappointing, but as it is a new sportsbook we expect this could change in the future.

Pre-match Offer
5 / 5

  • Fine selection of sports markets
  • Dynamic cashout feature
  • Awesome user-generated tips

Pre-match Offer

Despite only being founded recently, SBK’s pre-match offer still manages to hold its own against some of the best online bookies.

Customising your experience to match your exact preference could not be easier. American, decimal, fractional and even percentage odds are all available, and several aesthetic changes can also be implemented.

Once you have made the sportsbook as appealing as possible, you are free to dive into SBK’s incredible selection of different markets.

The operator offers a stunning 25 different sports to bet on. This ranges from sportsbook staples such as football, tennis and golf, to more niche offerings like cycling and handball. The depth of most of these markets is extremely impressive as well.

Take football for example. In one Premier League game we checked, there were well over 100 sub-markets. These included first goalscorer, Asian handicap, both teams to score and many more. Even less popular leagues had plenty of choice.

The crown jewel of SBK’s pre-match offer is its highly competitive odds. SBK had the best prices for over half of the Premier League matches during one particular gameweek. The overround of their odds are consistently well below the 110% mark as well. This is further evidence of the operator possessing some of the best prices around.

You may think we are running out of superlatives for SBK’s pre-match offer, but we have not even got to the bustling tipster community yet.

Pre-match Offer

As soon as you create an account with the operator you are able to post your betting predictions for other players to use. This creates a community feel to the app and also offers people some great opportunities to dip their toes into the tipster market.

eSports

Betting on eSports is no longer the niche pastime it once was. It is now a multi-million pound industry and offering a good selection of markets is a vital ingredient in a highly scoring sportsbook.

SBK’s eSports provision is strong. It has its own dedicated page on the betting app, where markets can be filtered by popularity, date and competition. CS:GO, League of Legends and Call of Duty are all covered by the sportsbook with each possessing a fine selection of sub-markets.

If you are a keen eSports fan, SBK could be the sportsbook for you.

Other Specials

It is always good to mix up your betting in order to keep things fresh and interesting. With SBK, this is easy, thanks to their range of alternative markets.

The operator’s political selections are particularly strong. Bets from countries across the world are supported, with markets on the London Mayoral race, 2024 US Presidential elections and the Israeli elections all open at the time of writing.

Current Affairs is another prominent category. This includes bets which reflect big news stories. For instance, when we were testing SBK, it was possible to bet on when schools would reopen in the United Kingdom.

Television betting is also available with Dancing on Ice the headline market during our review.

Cashout & Bet Builder

Cashing out has revolutionised sports betting since it burst on the scene a few years ago. SBK’s cashout feature is strong.

It is available for the overwhelming majority of markets and prices are updated in real time to ensure the fairest cashout possible.

In terms of a bet builder, SBK also delivers. Adding various sub-markets to your electronic betting slip is incredibly intuitive. This means players can create their ideal bet within minutes.

Live Offer
3.5 / 5

  • Great selection of varied live markets
  • No live streaming at all
  • Good use some more in-depth statistics

Variation and depth were two words that immediately came to mind when we were reviewing SBK’s live markets.

Live Offer

Navigating to the live portion of the sportsbooks is extremely easy. No matter where you navigate on the app, an lightning bolt icon hovers at the top of the screen. Clicking this will take you to all the markets that are currently in-play.

Live odds are updated in line with what is happening in the event, meaning users always get the most accurate prices possible.

In terms of odds and choice then, SBK does well. Saying this, there are some things that the operator could improve on. The lack of any live streaming provision is a shame and overall, following live markets on the app could be improved.

The stats and graphics are nowhere near as detailed as some of its competitors. This can make it challenging to accurately choose a live bet.

Security
5 / 5

  • SSL data encryption
  • Touch ID can be used to log in
  • Promotes safer gambling

Here at the Punters Page, we never recommend a sportsbook before closely scrutinising each operator’s security credentials. SBK was no exception.

The betting app is operated by Smarkets, which is licensed and regulated to trade in the UK by the Gambling Commission. SBK also possesses a second license from the Malta Gaming Authority which allows it to operate outside of the UKGC’s jurisdiction.

Both of these regulators are some of the most scrupulous on the planet. This means you can be sure that the service you are receiving at SBK is both safe and fair.

In terms of security, the sportsbook also performed well. All transactions on the app are secured with SSL data encryption. This ensures that all its users’ personal and banking information is safe from malware and hackers.

Additionally, SBK is also committed to promoting safer gambling. Players can request deposit limits on their account, while information on how to avoid their hobby becoming a problem is readily available on the app.

Service and Customer Support
4.5 / 5

  • Interact with players on social media
  • Live chat integrated to app
  • Not 24/7 support

SBK does a fine job of making their customers feel valued. There are a myriad of different ways to get in contact with the operator, ranging from sending them a message on social media, to dropping them an email.

Our main port of call for support was the fully integrated live chat on the app itself. Located in the ‘Account’ section, we found all our interactions with the customer service staff to be pleasant. Not only were they courteous, they were also informative.

Customer Support

For those who wish to speak to someone in person, there is also a telephone hotline, which is staffed from 9:00 to 00:00 every day. SBK has a postal address as well.

Of course, you could be able to avoid all of these support methods by viewing the operator’s FAQ section. This includes a shed load of well presented information with topics ranging from payments, to account settings, to betting rules.

Another great feature of SBK’s customer service is the feedback tab. Here, users can leave suggestions for the operator to implement in the future. Many operator’s claim to listen to their players but SBK is different, actually following through on these words by welcoming constructive criticism.

Design & Usability
4 / 5

  • Modern, minimalist design
  • Packed full of features
  • Takes some getting used to

Design

We won’t lie, there is a small learning curve when using the SBK app. The layout is extremely stipped back and this minimalism did puzzle us slightly at first.

However, after learning where everything was located, we appreciated the small amount of menus and sub-menus. It makes navigation extremely streamlined, saving you plenty of time in the long run.

We were also big fans of the simple, monochrome colour scheme. The white text on the black background is legible, while the splashes on green help to stop things from getting stale. Loading times on the app are swift as well. This makes the process of bet placing smooth as silk.

Mobile
4.5 / 5

  • Mobile only sportsbook
  • Designed with the smaller screen in mind

Using the app, you can tell that SBK has been designed with mobile phones in mind. The app is light on graphics and sounds, meaning the less powerful processors can deal with it without any issues.

Everything fits into the smaller screen neatly as well. We did not notice any icons or menus being cut off, which we have experienced with some other betting apps.

Scrolling through the various markets is also a breeze. These are also structured with the mobile phone users in mind.

Other Products

While the SBK app itself is solely a sportsbook, parent company Smarkets does offer a number of alternative services.

One of its most famous projects is the Smarkets betting exchange. This must be downloaded on a separate app, but it could be worth a go for anyone wishing to dip their toes into the world of lay betting. Since 2010, Smarkets has processed over £15 billion worth of trades, making it an industry leader.

It is particularly strong in the politics market, but its sports offering is also extremely strong.

Summary

Put simply, SBK is one of the best sportsbooks that has entered the UK market in recent years. During our review, it was hard to find much to complain about. From its rewarding sign up offer, to its in-depth markets, to its unique community features, the operator offers an impressive product for bettors of all colours. We recommended giving it a try, if you have not already.
