Fact to File Worth Backing Each Way
Fact to File is a quality horse but 2025 has not been as successful as the previous couple of years. Again, trained by Mullins, he will be up there, however, given his lack of consistency back in the Spring, we feel it is better to go each way rather than back him to win.
2024 Winner Banbridge Could be a Good Outside Bet
There have been two successful title defences at the King George in recent years. Silviniaco Conti, in 2014, and Cian Des Obeaux, in 2019. After his win here, in 2024, Banbridge did not have the best of seasons with a seventh place and a fourth place (in a race with only four runners). At nine-years-old, he is right at the upper end of the age-range for a King George winner, but he is clearly suited to this course and may just have one more big performance in him. If you’re looking for an outsider, this could be a good shout. But we would urge you to go each way.
Look out for Jango Baie
Jango Baie’s odds have tumbled from 14/1 to 4/1 and now 7/2 after a superb win in the Ladbrokes 1965 Chase. It looks as though Nicky Henderson is bringing him into form at the right time.
How We Select Our Tips for King George Betting
There are certain factors that our experts analysed when producing their King George VI Chase tips. These can be applied to any horse race, but here you’ll find them specifically adjusted to the King George Chase.
Age is an important factor in horse racing, and we considered it when compiling our King George tips. Certain courses, distances and types of race suit experienced horses, while others suit younger ones. The King George Chase falls into the first category, with all the last 12 winners being aged six or over. The optimum age appears to be seven and eight, with 10 winners from the last 12 editions falling into this category – one six-year-old and one nine-year-old won here.
The King George Chase is a Grade 1 race. Therefore, the field will be made up of top-class horses. 75% of the winners from the past 12 years had a class rating of 162 or higher. King George winners are generally experienced in Grade 1 races and usually have, at least, one win at that level under their belt.
The King George VI Chase is run over three miles, with the winning time being generally around 5:40 to 6:00. So, you need to look at horses that run well over that sort of distance.
When betting on horse racing you need to look at the form going into the race. With the race being relatively early in the National Hunt season, some trainers might use this as a horse’s first major outing of the season, which can make this difficult. Look for horses who have been raced sparingly but consistently place. Generally, around half of the winners of this race come into it with a win in their last outing and most winners had raced within 44 days of the King George.
Some horses run well off a fast early pace, while others are better when a race has a steadier start. Some perform better when they can sit just off the pace and come through, while others do better when they are either leading or right up with the frontrunners. Look for a horse that can win in different situations, as they are more likely to put in a good performance.
Some horses perform well in warm conditions, while others simply wilt and look lethargic. There are also the ones that take a long time to get going in cold conditions. In the UK, Boxing Day usually sees temperatures on the cool side. You need to look at how a particular horse performs in cold conditions and decide whether they can cope with the worst of the British winter weather.
Closely linked to the weather, you need to see which type of course conditions suit a particular horse. Some horses need the going to be good, while others thrive if the ground is soft, as their strength carries them through when others have their energy sapped. Some horses can cope with hard ground whereas others struggle with the impact. With the race being in late December, it is likely to have a bit of rain, meaning the ground may be soft or heavy. If the temperatures are low, the course could be quite hard, especially if there has been a frost.
